SON - slim and tall

Horrible stretch marks on his back, he is 14, will they go?

They fade.
Shock and Sad that you describe them as horrible though. My teenagers have all had them to varying degrees and moisturising, particularly Bio oil helps, smelly though.

fedupandfeelingold · 17/01/2015 21:03

Mine on hips faded but not for MANY years

Armpitt · 17/01/2015 21:03

well you wouldnt choose to have them!

They go sort of silvery so become barely noticeable.

Timeforabiscuit · 17/01/2015 21:05

Yes they do - both myself and dh had them, in both cases started very angry and red, then started fading and they are a slight dent in the skin and silvery.

This did take a good few years, especially when you're still growing and developing.

People did recommend bio oil etc, but I didn't really see the point as they fade naturally anyway.

HansieLove · 17/01/2015 21:07

My son grew fast as a teen. He is a handsome 42 year old now. He is thin, 6'3", and cycles as a hobby. He got and still has stretch marks, on the side of his chest, on his thighs, I think on his upper arms.
DS1 reached my height at age 13, he is 6'1.5". DS2 reached my height at age fourteen but continued to grow into college years.

ShatnersBassoon · 17/01/2015 21:08

They'll fade. They're not horrible, just an unavoidable part of growing for many people. Don't make him think they're ugly Sad

Armpitt · 17/01/2015 21:09

this one is 5;11 at 14

8.5 stone!

Pretty much insulted everyone with "horrible stretch marks"

ethelb · 17/01/2015 21:15

Mine didn't fade until my early 20s. Sorry.

I think men don't expect them but my DP has them on his hips and they similarly didn't fade.

Armpitt · 17/01/2015 21:25

i think you'll survive the 'offence'

Older brother had bad ones (he's talk about 6ft5) and they've completely gone (he may still be able to tell if there's any there but nobody else can). He did use bio oil on them but I'm not sure how religiously he applied it as he was a teenage boy that barely could manage a shower Grin. They were very thick and red when he was younger.

I got ones on hips, thighs, boobs and behind knees. Boobs and hips gone but behind knees very silver and thighs still red and noticeable.

Youngest sister seems to have none at all!!!

superpoodle · 17/01/2015 21:32

I would encourage him not be self conscious about them as loads of people have them and they will more than likely fade to nothing once he's stopped growing.

Armpitt · 17/01/2015 21:33

i have none, so am not very au fait with it all. he hasnt ever commented on them, I just saw them, he has grown SO fast this year...

Cool they will go.

FortyFacedFuckers · 17/01/2015 21:35

Nope I had some on the back of my legs & my thighs when I was a teen and at 28 they have faded but definitely still there.

WanderingTrolley1 · 17/01/2015 21:39

I started getting them as a teenager, too. They're still there, 20+ years later.

Lovetheleaves · 18/01/2015 09:06

2 out of my children have them. One of them is very self conscious about going swimming though. Other doesn't care less.

Haffdonga · 18/01/2015 09:15

Ds has them just like his df. Ds (18) has long red stripes. Dh (48) now has fine silver lines.

ChippingInLatteLover · 18/01/2015 09:19

I had forgotten all about them! Yes, I had some as a teen and they aren't there now. I'm not sure when they vanished. I don't know why I had them either, I wasn't overweight and I certainly didn't grow quickly at any stage.

specialsubject · 18/01/2015 14:27

stretch marks either vanish or not, depending on your personal skin and genetics. No evidence AT ALL that any of the peddled snake oil does everything.

life isn't photoshop. Live with it.

tilliebob · 18/01/2015 15:15

My DS1 at 15 has horrendous deep stretch marks on his back too. Hoc says they'll fade. They itch like hell sometimes - I put E45 cream on them. I've also put Bio-oil on them too. I've never seen such stretch marks and I've had 3 dcs

usualsuspect333 · 18/01/2015 15:20

My Ds had them on his back at about the same age as yours Armmpit. I wondered what the bloody hell they were when I first noticed them.

He is still very slim but you can hardly see the stretchmarks now he's 22.

gamerchick · 18/01/2015 15:24

They fade but like most scars they don't go altogether.
It doesn't matter.
