DS15 smells bad. Not really looking forward to our Cinema trips.

Ds15 would quite happily go weeks without showering. I've tried blackmail, nagging, etc. He really doesn't see it as issue. Just DS15 and I went to the cinema tonight. He took his jacket off and the smell was overpowering.

DS15 had such a good time, I didn't want to ruin it, but the smell put me off the film, popcorn etc.

He usually has a different g/f every week so that's not the answer . I have dropped some major hints but they go unheeded?

I don't get this whole "teenagers don't wash" thing. My teenage DS showers every other day (whether he needs to or not Grin).

Can it just be a house rule? Jo shower = no wifi maybe?

waspbeast · 18/04/2014 00:08

I have nagged him & even forced DS15 into the shower. He doesn't seem to care or smell the aroma around him.

It's got so bad I can tell where he has been just from the scent trail, (he thinks I have ESP!).

He is free to use the shower whenever he wants to.

I think the call of the Xbox is greater. Maybe I should do a rota so he knows when cleansing time is?

Did you just say he can't keep a girlfriend for more than a week?

thenightsky · 18/04/2014 00:16

i worry that mine is obsessive coz he showers morning and evening. My bill for hot water is through the roof. He's in there for 20 mins at a time. He still stinks of sweat though. If I could persuade him to trim the armpit hair so the antiperspirant could actually reach his skin.....

Jellaby · 18/04/2014 00:21

He has no problem getting girlfriends, but they don't stick around!

There would be some serious punishments for not showering. He could need to interview for a job next year, and he'll have no chance.

I'd start my making it very clear when he smells. Leaving the room and such when he is ripe. Is he showering properly? Soap, rather than just splashing.

Legologgo · 18/04/2014 01:02

Mine wash daily too

Legologgo · 18/04/2014 01:02

Take away x box controller. Obvs

IamInvisible · 18/04/2014 01:18

Mine shower twice a day, at least, too.

If you don't tell him, kindly, soon then someone else will and I doubt they will be kind!

TheCatThatSmiled · 18/04/2014 01:38

Hide the router or change the wireless password unroll he has a shower and washes his clothes. Repeat 3 times a week minimum.

He probably can't smell how much he stinks.

I wonder if there is some way you could entice another smelly person, perhaps an older man with skin and prostate troubles, to come round one evening and sit next to DS. Perhaps you could also get him to drink milk from the bottle and put it back in the fridge.

Monty27 · 18/04/2014 02:35

Are his clothes laundered? Confused

gamerchick · 18/04/2014 08:02

Teenage boys are smelly buggers.. there's no getting away from it.

Just take his X box and tell him he can have it back when he's clean.

LineRunner · 18/04/2014 08:08

What soap / shower gel do you have? I let my DS(15) choose his own. He also picks his own deodorant and anti-perspirants, and uses them.

I also stick his shirts on a hot wash and tee-shirts on a warm wash - the quick and cool wash just doesn't always do it.

Longdistance · 18/04/2014 08:22

Run him a bath, and dunk him in. He needs a good sheep dip Grin

Can you tell I don't have teenagers?

Back yard. Hose pipe. Carbolic soap. And 'you fucking stink, you gopping little bugger' is about all that gets through the armour of teenage indolence.

WanderingTrolley1 · 18/04/2014 08:33

My DS, 15, showers under duress, but the tooth-brushing, or lack thereof, which is the real source of my irritation...

He clearly isn't showing in there then...... Blush

Travelledtheworld · 18/04/2014 19:20

I have a sweaty DS14 who is averse to soap and water.
He can soak for hours in a hot bath but not actually WASH any of his fetid body parts......

I usually say : You need a shower. Go and have one now or you will not be welcome at the dinner table.....

And he knows that the rule is shower every morning before school, with soap and then use deodorant.

Goblinchild · 18/04/2014 19:22

No shower, no Xbox.
Why is that complicated?
