Shes pretty with dark brunette hair. She really jealous of her 16 year old sister who plucks her eyebrows and has amazing waist length blonde hair, and now she wants to start plucking hers, should I let her?

Help her or take her to get them done. I Looked permanently surprised between 13 and 16 and wish my mum had stepped in!

As I say I haven't a clue, but knkwing my two, they'll just buzz off to YouTube and sort themselves out.

They do amazing hairstyles, learnt that way and both manage make up without asking.

DD2 has done fashionable clothes since she was about 9, with recourse only to my credit card.

I'm sure they'll sort out eye brows (they shave their legs and DD1 applies hair removing foam sometimes all without bothering me)

They are totally free to ask, they just like being independent if they can.

DD and I go to the salon together, £4 (offer on wednesdays!) for waxing... bit of mother daughter time and we both get rid of the sprouting black hairs - bargain.
Had them threaded last time instead - that was different but YES god theyre only eyebrows, definitely let her have them done - but in a salon!

Yes you should if thats what she really wants. My mum took me to a salon for my first eyebrow waxing at 14. Made a lot of difference. Not only in my looks but to my confidence as well. I was so proud to show off my new eyebrows to my friends. (Beforehand was bullied and nicknamed slugs lol)

Don't let her do them herself, it's a skill you need to learn. Can her sister teach her? There is a lot of awful looking eyebrows on teen girls at the moment.
I was going to post some pictures after googling 'awful eyebrows' but I feel sorry for the girls involved. Shock

My DD is 11, which I'd've thought was too young, but she's started her periods so I guess she's growing up, no denial!
She started asking over a year ago and I told her no, she was too young. She was getting called monobrow and worse by boys at school. She's asked again recently, and DH thinks I should give in ... I think he might be right. What do you all think? Is 11 too young for eyebrow waxing?

I think if she's getting teased I would let her 4happyhours. Ain't it fun being a female?!!

No 11 isn't too young as that's when dd first got her eyebrows waxed as they meet in the middle. She has had them done a few times now

Mine were first done by my mam when I was 10/11 and now do them myself regularly (I'm 17-at least I don't shave them or colour them in!) Grin

Just make sure she gets them professionally done

So she doesn't pluck the life out of them and end up with thin caterpillars on her forehead!

I get mine threaded and keep them very thick but shaped.

I plucked the hell out of mine for years and never got them professionally done until I was about 40. They are patchy and I have a lot of white ones so I would prefer dd to get it done at the salon rather than do it herself

It's a right of passage to cock your eyebrows up as a teenager Grin
Take her to get them done. It will save her eyebrows

I don't remember my teenage DDs asking me. They just did it. My 13 year old asks for tattoos and additional piercings, not if she can pluck her eyebrows Grin.

Thanks for reassurance re my 11yo ... Is waxing or threading best for someone that young?

Report
SlinkyVagabond · 16/02/2016 08:49

Tell her to find some good advice about doing it properly or get them threaded. This is the voice of bitter experience here from the 14 year old many years ago who plucked hers and now has pencil thin eyebrows.

Take her to get them done. Loads of people go far too far

My DD is 13 and has had hers waxed/threaded a couple of times. Not a regular thing, but we have done it for 'special' occasions. Most of her friends have theirs done, but DD's are fair and not too straggly so she can get away with it. She probably just needs to pluck a few stray ones out as even when she has them doen there's not a big deal of difference, just tidier.

Just went to comment on here and saw that I had already done so two years ago (different name). My opinion has changed since then. Don't let an 11YO pluck - she'll probably ruin them and spend years trying to reshape them, repeating the cycle. Also waxing sometimes gives an unnatural shape. Take her to get them threaded. By far the best eyebrow shaping method.

Well ... we went to a Benefit shop yesterday and the girl who waxed/tidied/plucked was brilliant. She didn't overdo it, and she took time to show DD what would happen on her inner wrist so she knew what to expect. Very natural, and she's delighted - she grinned and grinned on seeing that dark middle monobrow bit all gone!

If the worst thing she does at 14 is pluck her eyebrows think yourself lucky

Yikes. I didn't even ask my parents if I could get my ears pierced 6 times on one side at about this age. To be fair to them, they wouldn't have tried to interfere in it either.

Aren't kids very good nowadays?! Hope my 4 year old receives the compliant memo at some point in the next 10 years...
