This is OK, right?

My dd1 (almost 14) has a 'boyfriend' (oooh for all of 2 weeks!). She goes to a school with only 45 in her year group which led directly on from primary, so she's known this lad since P2.

He asked her out by FB messaging the Scouting For Girls song "She's So Lovely".

It's Christmas holidays and she's asked if she can go into the city centre to meet him and do last minute shopping, promising she'll be home by 4.30 - it's 20 min on the bus.

She's my eldest, and I was so geeky/unattractive at school (glasses, braces etc) that this never happened to me.

They're going to be wandering about the Christmas market, going to drink hot chocolate, probably (she said to me hopefully) holding hands. They've hugged, but no kissing yet!

I think it's all rather sweet. This is ok, isn't it?

She gets the bus through the city centre every day for school so that part is no big deal. But I feel like I'm 103, which would mean her birth at the age of 99 would be a miracle!!

I'm sure she'll be fine.

WildThong · 23/12/2013 13:07

Sounds sweet. I would be the same as you, but it's going to happen some time.

Twinsplusonesurprise · 23/12/2013 13:29

So scary, the passing of time, where does it go?
Totally understand your nerves, I will be the same (in a few years thank God!). Am sure she'll be fine.
Perhaps ask her to text you when she gets off and then later gets on the bus?

Weegiemum · 23/12/2013 14:26

Thankyou! I've had a text saying they met up and were going to Costa for hot drinks and cake (I slipped her £10 as she left!).

He's a really nice boy, I know his mum. They're in the same class and also in a ceilidh band at school together (she plays accordion, he's a drummer).

I think it's very sweet, I think the "making me feel old" is the issue!!

How lovely!Smile

thornrose · 23/12/2013 14:32

I think it's lovely, I would love that to happen to my dd. Young romance Xmas Grin

thornrose · 23/12/2013 14:33

OOh if you're having a G&T I'm going to have a glass of wine! (I'm easily led)

chocoluvva · 23/12/2013 14:46

Aww - be happy for your DD. I understand your feelings - I was the same with my DD at that age. It was a shock to realise that geeky, plain old DH and I have an attractive daughter.

I'm to have a cup of tea now - partypooper!

Trills · 23/12/2013 14:50

That sounds nice :)

Although if you are 103 then she was born when you were 89 not 99

Weegiemum · 23/12/2013 15:02

Lo at my bad maths!

It is very sweet really. My dd1 is gorgeous, tall and slim with breathtaking eyes - never needs eyeliner, lashes are wonderful. Brilliant skin for a teen too. Any boy should be privileged to go out with her!

Young love, eh? I didn't get a boyfriend until I was 17!

OP posts:
80sdrummer · 23/12/2013 16:26

young love. I hope she has had a wonderful day

specialsubject · 23/12/2013 16:59

actually the privilege for going out with her is because of her lovely personality and intelligence. Give the boy some credit for seeing past her looks!

SantasPelvicFloor · 23/12/2013 17:03

I knew you'd get a snippy remark for commenting on her looks OP. Xmas Grin

It all sounds lovely

TotallyBursarforHogswatch · 23/12/2013 17:06

Ahh, I had my first proper tummy flutter 'I luffs you' at a Christmas market. It was freezing, there was an ice rink, hot chestnut brazier, mulled wine and hot cider.
We were mostly in hysterics due to aforementioned ice rink tomfoolery but then had (a fairly chaste) kiss goodbye - I grinned like a cheshire cat all the way home.

I had remarkably good taste as a teen.

Hope she has a great time. No need to feel old, while she's busy with nice lad it gives you time to steal a few Christmas kisses of your own (possibly at the market all wrapped up, hot drink, cold nose, hidden behind the toy stall...ah, ahem err or not) or a Christmas something that will put a spring in one's step and put the kibosh on this 'old' nonsense.

TotallyBursarforHogswatch · 23/12/2013 19:24

Oh no, I've killed your thread with my bolleaux.

Sorry Blush

Earthymama · 23/12/2013 19:29

No you haven't killed it, I will come and say Awww!

I lurved my boyfriend so much when I was in my teens, we helped each other loads through some difficult times. He was my best friend.
Didn't end well as I was an idiot.Sad

He died in his late 20s, a definite loss as he was a very sweet and gentle man, who was also a cracking rugby player.

OP, update us please?

LizzieVereker · 23/12/2013 19:30

It sounds lovely. I hope they had a lovely time and never forget it.

DaveBussell · 23/12/2013 19:37

Lovely to read something positive in Teenagers, hope they had a nice time Xmas Smile

FourAndDone · 23/12/2013 20:34

Grin At thornrose. Just have the blardy bottle and be done with it!Wink

Annunziata · 23/12/2013 20:39

Oh that's so romantic! Tell us how they went!!!!

GlaikitInAPearTree · 23/12/2013 20:48

My first boyfriend was a drummer, I probably shouldn't tell you anymore Xmas Wink

Although, don't be under any illusions, they'll have kissed. You just don't tell you mum these things!

Weegiemum · 23/12/2013 23:32

She came home (on time!) and confessed they'd had a wee kiss on the lips ("but not like you and dad, you know").

They had a very romantic lunch at Maccy D's!

I'm pleased about it all, he's a nice lad and it's made her much more confident to know he likes her (though she turned 2 others down!!)

And it's not just her looks! She's intelligent, very artistic (is sitting art exams early), plays 2 instruments, makes her own clothes (if she can't find what she likes in Primark!). Though always covered in bruises due to her hyper-mobility and dyspraxia! She's a great girl, and there's not many boys deserve her, though this one seems ok!

Again - aww.

It needs to be said several times.

Just. Aww.
