do you think the age gap between a 17 year old and an 20 year old is to large?

No, not necessarily but I would require more information before giving it my full approval.

Why do you ask ?

17leftfeet · 23/11/2013 17:09

Depends entirely on the 17 year old and the 20 year old in question

SPsWouldCatFishNev · 23/11/2013 17:09

Ones an adult and ones not quite

17 yr old girl and a 20 yr old boy?

Most 20yr old boys are incredibly immature. Most 17yr old girls are pretty mature. They'd probably meet in the middle.

But totally depends on the youngsters in question..

FortyFacedFuckers · 23/11/2013 17:11

No I was 17 when I met DP who was 27 we are still together more than 10 years later.

EXTERMINATEpeppa · 23/11/2013 17:12

no! I was 17 & my exh was 21 when we started going outSmile

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 17:13

A 17 year old going out with a 20 year old?

I wouldn't give it a 2nd thought,it's fine.

bigTillyMint · 23/11/2013 17:13

Depends on the people in question.

At 18 I "went out" with a 25yo briefly. He was also a tutor at the local tech - don't know what he saw in me, but I soon decided he was too old!

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 17:14

I was 17 ,DP was 23 when we first met.

Worried123456 · 23/11/2013 17:21

I was 16 and DH 19 when we started going out with each other. Wouldn't bother me at all.

BackforGood · 23/11/2013 17:23

Is too large for what ? Confused

MrsBungleScare · 23/11/2013 17:25

Personally, I wouldn't think anything of this.

Mumof3xx · 23/11/2013 17:25

I don't think this is a problem tbh

LeMatin · 23/11/2013 17:27

It's fine, are there other imbalances in the relationship which give you cause for concern? The aged gap in itself shouldn't be a worry.

LeMatin · 23/11/2013 17:27

age gap

derektheladyhamster · 23/11/2013 17:29

I had the same gap with an ex

ommmward · 23/11/2013 17:29

I've come across a rule of thumb, in our culture, which says "divide his age and add 7. If she is that age or older, it won't raise eyebrows, but if she's younger than that age it will."

That doesn't mean the rule of thumb is correct in terms of the actual people involved, but it does seem to be quite a neat way of encapsulating the response of most people in our culture, regardless of the circumstances or personalities of the people in the relationship.

expatinscotland · 23/11/2013 17:29

No.

Bowlersarm · 23/11/2013 17:30

I think it's fine. Which way round is it?

Fairylea · 23/11/2013 17:30

Absolutely fine imo.

Safyre · 23/11/2013 17:32

When I met DH, I was 16 and he was 20. It was never a problem.

NoComet · 23/11/2013 17:40

Given the 14-26y dating club that was Young Farmers it wouldn't have raised in eyebrows when I was young. (Our pubs served us from 15 and most of my peers left school at 16. Many of the older farm lads still lived at home so it wasn't like a school girl and a streetwise student.)

NoComet · 23/11/2013 17:43

There is 3.5 years between DH and me, but we were 20/23 and both students,

OddBoots · 23/11/2013 17:43

I got together with dh when I was 17, he was 23 and we're still happy together 18 years later.

SatinSandals · 23/11/2013 17:45

No, girls are far more mature.
My friend had a 20 yr old boyfriend when she was 16 yrs and it caused a lot of problems with her parents. It all seems silly now they are 62 yrs and 58yrs with very successful children and now grandchildren!
