More Ideas for 15 yr old DD birthday (too many sleepovers lateley - they are booooring!)

Any not too expensive ideas? Birthday next weekend & I assumed another sleepover, but apparantly they have all watched every DVD & talked about every subject!

I have suggested a meal out, swimming, bowling etc - all been done before. No concerts that she wants tickets for etc etc

What have I missed? Any good ideas that are not toooo expensive?

TIA

a friend of mine is a mobile hairdresser/beautician and she does a party package, ie comes along for the afternoon and does hair (not cutting, just styling) and makeup. she says teenage birthdays are her biggest audience. not sure what you would find in under on internet or yellow pages but there might be someone doing similar in your area.

polly28 · 04/01/2006 20:30

have just been through this with dd(14),

The trouble is they want to invite so many.My dd wanted to go ice skating ,which seems fine, except that it's in Basingstoke which is an hours drive away,so would have to drive everyone there, hence need to borrow/hire cars, all gets bloody expensive.

Solution was she had a party at home with 12 friends,I cooked lunch for them, hired dvds, set up singstar and then buggered off with ds.She is also doing a swinging in the trees activity thing at local adventure park(moors valley) with best friend as it's really expensive and you need one adult per 3 teens. She was happy with that but next year wants to have a summer party instead at the local water park.Winter's a crap time for parties ins't it.

Milliways · 04/01/2006 20:39

Thanks both of you.

I suggested a "pamper party" but think she is self conscious - hence no swimming! Some of her friends are soooo tall & thin, but DD is a perfect size 8 so not exactly large!

I suggested the Basingstoke Aquadrome - mine love it there, but been done before & involves swimmind cossies.

Maybe horseriding?

Any more?

OP posts:
polly28 · 04/01/2006 20:52

oh yes horseriding sounds good.

Quad biking,

Gambling at the dogs (probably wouldn't please other parents though,I'd quite enjoy it!)

Paintball

trying to think......

ride in limo around town

Milliways · 04/01/2006 20:55

Limo might streeeetch the budget a bit

Pottery?

doormat · 04/01/2006 20:57

stars in their eyes karoake
where they dress up as fave popstar and whine away

spacecadet · 04/01/2006 20:59

my dd who is nearl 15 said on her birthday, she would like to do one of the following;
go ice skating
bowling
shopping with friends
out for a meal with friends in the evening
dont know if this is of any help.

Aloha · 04/01/2006 20:59

They are so spoilt! Mind you my ds had a (fabulous) punch and judy man that cost £100 for his fourth birthday.

Milliways · 04/01/2006 20:59

Pottery could be interesting if could find somewhere (other than my kitchen!).

Karaoke? Don't think she would go for that - restricts singing to showers & when thinks no-one is listening!

Keep them coming please

Just search on the internet for a pottery cafe.

busybusybee · 04/01/2006 21:01

I agree with Hercules suggestion - What about a ceramic painting party or similar. I have seen quite a few ceramic cafes. Or some other activity: baking craft etc

Milliways · 04/01/2006 21:02

Agree they are spoiloy Aloha - although don't think she necessarily wants lavish - just different, something to remember. Something cool with 1 friend might just work. I thought about a West end show, but that's £150-£200 just for us, let alone take a friend!

I have tried the "celebrate with your family & have a party at 16" tack - didn't work.

We did the beautician thing for dd(12) 2 days before Xmas. She had 4 friends over and used a beautician who comes to my house anyway. it was a great success. The girls got manicures/pedicures/facials/head massage, and also got a goodie bag which she brought as part of the package. Each girl got 2 'things' done to them and it was £10 per girl.

Just put out pizza etc in other room with singstar for when not being done, but they mostly hung around and watched and chatted. Sooooo wanted to join in but was a good mummy and stayed away

busybusybee · 04/01/2006 21:05

I have also seen places where you can do engraving type stuff - bit like fancy brass rubbing - have seen one in Stratford upon Avon and another in Hay on wye. Ceramic cafes are in lots of towns atm.

Or what about a party making jewelry, necklaces earings, home made paper making

Milliways · 04/01/2006 21:09

I had suggested a craft party - at local gallery. Problem is she associates it with young childrens parties that she went too.

Not found a local pottery cafe yet - still googling!

Might push the beauty party idea again - but may have left all this too late! Only have a week & a bit!

I'd be terribly tempted to say that as she is so being so picky that you wash your hands of it altogether!

matnanplus · 04/01/2006 21:10

A LUSH party, they do make up and get a goody bag and voucher.

It costs £50 i believe for up to 10 people and can be done at the shop or your home.

Hope that helps.

Milliways · 04/01/2006 21:19

Aloha - could do, but she would honestly be happy with a sleepover if it came to it. We were talking about Christmas is Over, Now it's your birthday & she was trying to think of something different. She's a great kid who works hard & I was trying to come up with that "something".

There have been some good ideas here - will show her tomorrow.

Matnanplus - will check that out as well - thanks!

On my dds 16th birthday, she elected to have a "kiddies party". It was in the summer, so we had a bouncy castle, but the rest of it could be based indoors - she had all the traditional party food (with Winnie-the-Pooh paper plates etc), had balloons, party bags, played pass-the-parcel, pin-the-tail etc. etc. It was hilarious to watch them (from an upstairs window, of course!)

Milliways · 04/01/2006 21:52

Prisoner - as our 3yr old friend told her "I can't wait to come to your party" - maybe that's the answer! Bit cold for outside though
