Any not too expensive ideas? Birthday next weekend & I assumed another sleepover, but apparantly they have all watched every DVD & talked about every subject!

I have suggested a meal out, swimming, bowling etc - all been done before. No concerts that she wants tickets for etc etc

What have I missed? Any good ideas that are not toooo expensive?

TIA

Agree that the Lush party sounds ace.

Does your dd like taking photos or like posing for photos - could you do a fancy dress/photo shoot type party? give them all disposable cameras or something.

If you decide on an outing instead, why not look on the internet and get cheap flight tickets to somewhere like Venice or Barcelona - somewhere where you and the family could fly to and from in a day - and perhaps tell your dd she can invite one friend?

I had a brilliant idea for a party with teenagers but have not yet managed to put it into action...

What about getting an artist (maybe an art student from local uni/college) to come to your house and do a caricature of everyone there - like you get at Disney. (numbers would have to be limited of course). They could then take the picture home with them. You could pay a fixed amount per picture to the student/artist.

Would really like to do this before mine get too old and jaded.

Great ideas everyone.

Can't imagine flying in one day - expensive & DH is away in States at moment so wouldn't want to get back on plane

RTKM - is Mama Mia reduced? I would love to see that - maybe a girly weekend!

Hellie - good idea. We had cartoons done in Florida in 2000, it's fab. Don't think she would like her pic done atm, but I would like to get both kids done again some time.

Friend had a murder mystery party for her 13 year old recently. you know, those packs that you get... I thought that was a really good idea.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 05/01/2006 22:07

my 15th birthday we all got dressed up (4 of us in total) and had a swanky meal out - it was FAB - mum and dad sat in the resteraunt bar so they couldnt see us but did say they could hear us

Janh · 05/01/2006 22:09

How girlie are they? What about go-karting or quad biking?

tigermoth · 06/01/2006 07:40

The flights might not be that expensive if you can find easyjet/ryannair cheapies - a colleague of mine paid £12.00 to fly to Venice and back in one day. I'm going to be looking into the cheap flights idea for my son's 12th birthday, so will then know if it's possible.

Auntyfatasbutter · 06/01/2006 08:56

Bowling? Make over for her and best friend. Meal out?

Surfermum · 06/01/2006 09:15

We did the Go Ape thing at Moors Valley for dsd's birthday. She thought it was brilliant, but she's 10 and a right tomboy.

Would she like to go to Thorpe Park or one of those?

mumeeee · 06/01/2006 10:12

Hi Milliways my dughter will be 14 on Tuesday. All she wants to do is go to macdonalds and the cinema with her friends. She has just asked me to give her the money and she will sort everyhing out herself! She is only taking 4 friends
When DD2 was 14 she went out for a meal at a local resturant. I booked it a few days before dh took them down and then left them, they phoned when they had finished and DH collected them and paid the bill. The staff were quite happy to let them do this and they kept an eye on them. They all dressed up and looked realy grown up. I booked for 5 but only 3 went in the end. She was 16 a couple of weeks ago and had a disney theme party which she organised!

Moneysavingexpert flightchecker . There are flights at £0.01 to some destinations atm. (Tax bumps it up though.)

JennyWren · 06/01/2006 10:32

How about having her host her own dinner party? Help her to cook a 'posh' meal for a smallnumber of friends - 3 courses, her favourite recipes... You could cheat and get fresh soup from the supermarket as a starter, fresh pasta with a homemade sdauce as main - whatever she likes.

tigermoth · 08/01/2006 07:40

janh, thank you you are a kind and generous link giver.

Milliways my DS is only 6 and my DD will be 2 next month so I have a long while before I have this dilemma but I hope you find a solution for your DD ... Great ideas here ...

Ahem, is anyone else reading this and laughing nervously because of what we did at 15 year old's birthday paries in 'our' day??
IIRC I had a disco (with boys ) at my house at 15 and it was just a snog fest ... ... I think I threw up in the garden after drinking 2 or 3 of my Dad's beers ...

I much prefer the thought of my DD doing nice things when she is a teenager rather than the terrible stuff we did ...

Sorry for lowering the tone of such a nice thread

Happy Birthday to Milliways DD

tigermoth · 08/01/2006 09:56

lol, ghosty. Yes, parties with real live boys were the ones we all wanted to go to!

Milliways · 08/01/2006 20:31

Wel, she has decided to......

invite her Nanny & Grandad over for a takeaway on Friday (her actual b/day) and...

have a kiddies party from 3-6pm on Saturday , chocolate game, apple bobbing, pint the tail etc etc

At least they will all have gone home by evening, and it doesn't cost mucg

Thanks for all the ideas everyone - might come in useful next year!
