Hello
Call me a snob/control freak/whatever I will prob agree!! My 12yr DS has suddenly developed an interest and its called girls. One min he was playing action men the next its all texting/facebook and 'does my hair look good'
My dilemma is that I keep fretting and hacking into his FB account/mobile (I pay the bill why not) Once I have decoded the 'speak' (although I struggle on MN sometimes) you know what my worry is? If he goes out with girls called 'Shannon or Chelsea' are they going to lead him down the wrong path. I imagine Emily or kate would be more suitable !!!!
Anyone else as daft as me??

ABitBatty · 29/10/2010 11:10

How ridiculous Hmm

VivaLeBeaver · 29/10/2010 11:11

Yes they will lead him astray. What are you doing letting him mix in circles where he meets such girls. He'll be a dad by the time he's 13 if you're not careful.

This has to be a wind up.

If not, then you are being a snob and I would say enjoy your son because he will be gone as soon as he meets a girl that loves him.

booooooooooyhoo · 29/10/2010 11:12

you sound lovely Hmm

how about give your son his privacy and let him lead his own life. do you think all shannons or chelseas are given a manual at the onset of puberty in how to derail all innocent 12 year old boys. get real OP. go and get a life of your own and let you 12 year old have a bit of inncent flirting.

jesus i hope this is a wind up.

hocuspontas · 29/10/2010 11:13

Why are you worried? You are letting an underage child have a Facebook account so have to accept the consequences!

phipps · 29/10/2010 11:15

Well said hocus! Grin

booooooooooyhoo · 29/10/2010 11:17

agree hocus

sue52 · 29/10/2010 13:11

What Hpcus said and yes, you are daft.

SpottyMuldoon · 29/10/2010 13:21

Your whole post is brimming over with wrongness. I just don't know where to start.

Probably best to let him mix with as many different people as possible. The sooner he realises that not everyone has views like yours the better.

I thought your post was going to be about should you actually refer to a female friend as a 'girlfriend' at age 12 - which to me would be far more ridiculous than worrying about her name!!

Hullygully · 29/10/2010 14:54

I agree.

My ds went out with a girl called Chardonnay when he was 13 and now he's pregnant and she's just buggered off with a Ryan.

lborolass · 29/10/2010 15:01

Hully, he's pregnant ? You know you could get a fortune for that from Chat magazine Grin

Hullygully · 29/10/2010 15:03

I suggested that, but he was too humiliated at being dumped by the Love Rat Chardonnay.

Colourful · 29/10/2010 15:03

What's your son's name?

MassiveKnob · 29/10/2010 15:04

what is your son's name?

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/10/2010 15:06

PMSL Hully!

BertieBotts · 29/10/2010 15:12

Oi, Ryan isn't a chavvy name!

Hullygully · 29/10/2010 15:13

No, it's not chavvy, but it is one of those names that teachers look out for...

Don't forget to check their surnames and block anyone who does not have a double-barreled surname, preferably ending in "Smythe" (so much classier than Smith don't you think?). They do a bit of snooping to clarify whether they are the Hampshire Fotheringham-Smythes, or the Derbyshire Fotheringham-Smythes. Surely you have opinions or Home Counties or Midlands too?

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 29/10/2010 15:18

I assume you are not for real. IF your son has any sense he will delete you as his Facebook friend. How long do you intend to hack into his phone/computer....

I'd be far more concerned if he still had an interest in Action Man at the age of 12. (at any age actually)

Colourful · 29/10/2010 15:21

Beware of double barrelled names though. They can sometimes be a sign of breeding but can also be a sign that someone is in fact awfully common. It can be so terribly hard to tell - that's why a good first name is a must.
