Rabbit Bondage - anyone done this before?

I’ve started introducing my newly adopted 6 month doe and my 11 week old buck .

Doe is spayed . Buck too young to neuter.

The first few tries were frantic with the buck utterly terrified and jumping all over if the doe even looked at him .

Doe has been relatively calm and goes for a sniff although she has nipped and pulled a bit of fur too.

They’ve been living in the same neutral area in cages side by side and they do sniff and lick (or sometimes nip) through the bars but they also eat and groom next to each other in their separate cages too.

Today , I tried again and the buck was still frightened but not as bad.

He did manage to eat some hay from the middle this time (he’s usually far too frightened to eat) and he did start to sneak towards the doe when she was flopped out.

Is this a good sign?
Should I keep going?

I came on to suggest you might like to post in the Sex topic Grin

Sorry no advice, but you've really made me smile this evening.

Blostma · 11/07/2018 18:49

I kept waiting for you to explain how tying one of them up was going to help 😂

TamaytoTomato · 11/07/2018 19:00

I wasn’t aware it would be better for the buck to be neutered as his vet said the sooner the better to get them bonded.

Would it be ok to keep on with daily small introductions to get him used to the doe and then once he’s neutered do it properly?

I feel I’ve made progress today so I’m not sure it’s wise to stop completely ?

Although I’m clueless !

Love the photo of the two bonded bunnies !
I hope mine will be a success Smile

Walks in and then leaves immediately... realising this isn't what I assumed

FusionChefGeoff · 11/07/2018 20:30

It took 4 minutes for madbengalmum to find a photo of a rabbit in a bondage outfit.

All praise the Internet.

The book on this topic is 'The Tale of Bunny Bondage' by Beatrix Potter.

Nichelette · 15/07/2018 12:02

Introduce them in a neutral area, but my friend did have success swapping their homes around so they got used to each others scent without the other being present. I bonded 2 but my bunny was the soppiest girl ever and was delighted to have a friend. They took to each other instantly so can't really give you the benefit of my experience there!

HarshingMyMellow · 15/07/2018 12:08

I know nothing about rabbits but your title has made my day. Grin

Your title!! Grin no ideas or suggestion, but thank you!!!

Duskqueen · 15/07/2018 12:46

We tried this with 2 females, they were in a two tier hutch with the stairs blocked off, so they could used to the smell of each other and then we were going to introduce them properly once they had been neutered but the one downstairs managed to get through and attacked the one upstairs in the middle of the night (luckily we were still awake and heard the commotion) the upstairs one then pushed the other out of the hutch, trying to catch a white rabbit at 1am, in snow, in pyjamas was not much fun. We went out the next day and bought another hutch. It should work better with a buck and a doe though.
