Rabbit Bondage - anyone done this before?

I’ve started introducing my newly adopted 6 month doe and my 11 week old buck .

Doe is spayed . Buck too young to neuter.

The first few tries were frantic with the buck utterly terrified and jumping all over if the doe even looked at him .

Doe has been relatively calm and goes for a sniff although she has nipped and pulled a bit of fur too.

They’ve been living in the same neutral area in cages side by side and they do sniff and lick (or sometimes nip) through the bars but they also eat and groom next to each other in their separate cages too.

Today , I tried again and the buck was still frightened but not as bad.

He did manage to eat some hay from the middle this time (he’s usually far too frightened to eat) and he did start to sneak towards the doe when she was flopped out.

Is this a good sign?
Should I keep going?

I’m in tears at your title Grin

Sorry, no advice but my god your thread title made me hoot!

ClandestineAdulation · 11/07/2018 18:22

This is quite possibly the best typo on MN. I read it as ‘bonding’ on the feed initially then realised your mistake when I got to the comments Grin

donajimena · 11/07/2018 18:22

I haven't but I had to see what this was all about Grin

I only looked because of the title, sorry Grin

It isn't advised to bond rabbits until both are neutered, as hormones can cause rabbits to become aggressive and fall out. Besides the risk of injury, it can also interfer with future bonding as they can hold grudges. Also, if you are in the UK, vet advise is to avoid bonding until the weather cools as the stress puts them at higher risk from heat stroke.

The rabbit welfare association have great advice on bonding on their page. (p.s. Bondage lol)

Honeyroar · 11/07/2018 18:33

I bonded two bunnies recently. The buck was 10 months, the doe 18 months. It took about 48 hours before it calmed down and they were close within a week. Initially the buck was very dominant and I was a little worried for the female, but the next day the buck ran away from the doe whenever she went near him. They gradually moved nearer and nearer. I had a huge run, that was two 4'+ pens joined together. There is a hitch at one end and we put a cat carrier at the other end so there's shelter there too. We put food and water at both ends, then some grass/hay in the middle. I think them having room to get away and have space is vital. It all worked out well for us.

Loved the title though. (That rabbit in a bondage outfit is worrying though, hope it's not real, if it is it's sick).

MrsFassy · 11/07/2018 18:33

Sorry OP no advice but I'm crying at your typo 😂😂

Honeyroar · 11/07/2018 18:35

Oops, photo didn't post.

Rabbitykins55 · 11/07/2018 18:35

I think it's best to wait until both are neutered.

We started by having them in the same room but separated and then did dates in a neutral area, in a combined space. Took about a week.

Chocolateismyvice · 11/07/2018 18:36

I can't help you with your question but 😂😂😂😂 at your title!!
