New Guinea Pigs...with pigtures

Behold the newest additions to the Clara household. Daisy and Norman.
Both boys (formerly known as Nigel and Jimmy at the rescue)
They're the cutest wee guys and currently lying on opposite ends of the cage snoozing. Covered in hay.
The kids are delighted and Nigel doesn't seem at all bothered that he is being called a girls name.
Love them already.

Do cute! That's some impressive hair! Grin

Isitwinteryet · 20/04/2018 16:55

So cute *

EastMidsGPs · 20/04/2018 17:22

Oh my 😍😍😍

HoarseMackerel · 20/04/2018 17:39

I'm not a massive animal lover (not a hater though!!!) but I absolutely love Guinea Pigs.
Every time I go past the pet shop, they are calling me, especially the fancy haired ones! Grin

Pumakutari · 20/04/2018 17:42

What gorgeous guineas. Lucky you - enjoy your new additions.

weebarra · 20/04/2018 17:42

They are gorgeous! Girl pig #3 was called Simon Murray by me before the DCs put their collective feet down and renamed her Roxy.

beela · 20/04/2018 17:43

Oh my, they are gorgeous!

Pigpigpig · 20/04/2018 17:43

They’re so gorgeous! Here’s my two:

They are gorgeous Clara and Pigpig

It is so nice to get to know a new guinea-pig, their quirky little ways .
Daisy won't mind being called Daisy , as long as his name is heralded by the rustling of a parsley bag.

Your pigs will end up with 20 nicknames anyway Grin

We always rename our pigs though there's only 4 of them that have had names when we got them.
New Name starts their New Life !

Why thank you, they are rather lovely. I'm rather smitten with them. Especially when I saw them run to see me this morning in their cage. Oh it's the lady with the vegetables, wheek! They're very addictive.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/04/2018 20:10

Ahh you think they're saying "Lady with Vegetables" but they're actually saying "Pig Slave" Wink

My piggies tell me that they've been guinea-pigs longer than I've been their Pig-Mum (so they know best)

Clarabumps · 20/04/2018 21:01

I am amazed at how much they shit though, it's quite amazing.

Pigpigpig · 20/04/2018 21:17

Oh tell me about it clara! It never stops! Is one a coronet and the other a Peruvian?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/04/2018 22:08

If the pooh stops .worry. Worry a lot.

You need to take a Gillian McKeith type interest in your guinea-pigs pooh. It is more difficult with more than one pig but they tend to have their own areas to pooh .
The food goes in. It should come out in neat plentiful little losenges.

Unless its a 'first passing' which is soft and olive coloured (you are unlikely to see these -they duck their heads under then glare at you in case you steal it) pig pooh should be smooth, non smelly and uniform sized.
If its squidgey they might need less fresh veg or fruit. Too much grass can cause it. When ours have grass they have hay/pellets/water for supper.
Dehydrated can give skinny mishapen pooh
Mucous or slimy can be a gut inbalance
Clumped pooh can be impaction (mainly in saggy arsed entire boars)
Liquid pooh is bad news, you need a vet . We lost our big bolshy young boar a couple of years ago. He had soft pooh, saw the vet, seemed to recover. Then a couple of days later he was poohing liquid. Had a saline infusion and antibiotic but died within 12 hours. Very quick , very unexpected. Sad

They're gorgeous!

I'm a newish Mummy Pig as only had mine 2 months. They are the best pets ever! Such distinct personalities, so affectionate and just the cutest. 😍

I'll steal the opportunity to show off my boys. Look at them, they look like little hand puppets! 😂

Ooh lovely boars Grin
Is your little golden boy a Swiss?

0h · 20/04/2018 22:29

I think so!

Whatever he is it makes him the fluffiest and softest little piggy, he's just the cutest. Though I make sure to tell him daily what a smart boy he is so he doesn't think I love him just for his looks!

turnipfarmers · 20/04/2018 22:43

Awww, your little golden boy is like our now deceased GP.

Pigpigpig · 20/04/2018 23:34

They’re so gorgeous. I only got mine at Christmas but I have ended up adoring them very quickly. I love their little faces and how they always look a bit confused!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/04/2018 23:52

Guinea-pigs do look confused Grin

DD and I love the way their mouths look, like they been drinking through a straw and you pull it out of their mouth.

I just love the way they are such gentle little animals , even the stroppier ones have no real malice about them.
DD started with GP1/GP2 (brothers) and now we have GP6 (boar) and GP7/GP8. Our boars have all been soppy articles and the sows have all been feisty Grin

Pigpigpig · 21/04/2018 10:29

Betty could give you a good argument on the malice front. If you hold her wrong she bites and doesn’t let go till you do Grin it’s very painful but I don’t blame her!

We have GP4, 5, 6 and 7 at the moment.

GP4 is an outgoing, affectionate and intelligent little pig but who can be incredibly stupid - he's allowed free reign in the garden with GP5 but will sit next to the run until we put him in.

GP5 likes biting clothes, is docile and confused. He can have free rein in the garden with GP4.

GP6 is on steroids. Not allowed free rein in the garden. He's hyper and full of himself.

GP7 is timid with us (he was mistreated in the past) but holds his own with the other pigs. He can't have free rein in the garden.

They all know the sounds that herald treats and do a neat line in standing on their back legs when they think that goodies may be on offer.

Clarabumps · 21/04/2018 16:12

I've just let the out in the garden under a c and c cage with supervision. They were delighted, then started teeth chattering. Is this just because it's a new environment. I put them back in their hutch as they were circling each other and chattering. It looked a bit scary. They seem fine now. I don't know if it's too much change for them. I've only had them for 2 day. Feel like a bad pig mum.

Gorgeous pigs everyone!

I have just got my first 2 as an adult, had a few growing up.

They're ace. Only had them a few days so can't wait until we build a proper bond and they are tame.
