Sent DH to pick up rabbit hutch, he returned with ANOTHER rabbit.

Pretty much what the title says. Saw a nice hutch and run for sale on fb, arranged to pick up today. DS was sick this morning so I stayed home with home with him while DH and DSD went to pick it up.
And he;s come home with another rabbit. The story is he met the guy at the farm who explained this rabbit had been left behind by its owner and then run off. Hence selling the hutch. While DH was there, bunny returned. Guy said he was just going to set it free, so DH said he'd take it. sigh. He did call me to ask, I said whatever you think!
So we have another netherland dwarf rabbit, stinkin of shit as is the hutch. she has a cloudy eye injury and if shes been running free and not speyed. Oh god, shes going to have 20 half-wild babies isnt she?
Our 2 dwarves have been scrapping of late, so fluffy one is DEFINITELY being speyed next week. Think this wee black one we;ve acquired needs to see the vet for her jabs ASAP.
Kids have called her Judy Hopps.
Must make a sign saying 'rabbit sanctuary'.

Oh, and she had manky flies on her, tho I cant see mites or fleas.
shes in a carry case just now beside our rabbits indoor cages. fluffy bun is curious, fat bun is nae speaking to this new thing!

is it too early for wine?

No answers (I don't have rabbits) but s*d the Wine, there's a Gin emoticon now (gin)

If she's manky (lovely word, I'm guessing you're in Scotland) and fly ridden , have you checked her rump? Bit early for flystrike but , never say never.

And TBH, could your DH have left her there?
They were going to let her run free like the wind and find other bunnies to live with , poor little soul would've been picked off by a fox the same day Sad

Doesn't help your Hutch situation but you'd have given your DH a 'look' if he'd left her to her fate.

If you get her tidied up , would a Rescue take her if you can't keep her. Explain the situation to them. ?

She is so lovely and friendly and tame there's no way she would survive. I'm just cleaning the Hutch and am in tears. It was fuckin vile with months worth of wet dirty litter and flies everywhere. Poor poor little bunny. She's so gentle too. Just clipped her nails, they were far too long. I'm so upset I think I have to call the sspca and report them for neglect. I do know a lady near inverness who runs bunny boarding and bunny rescue so I could ask her. But we'll take her to vet Monday and at least introduce our bunnies to her once she's been bathed. Who the fuck let's any animal live in such disgusting conditions? 😟

Sorry, checked for flystrike. She's ok. No flea dirt either. Clearly needs her mixi shots tho, it's not rife but still.

Poor thing. Would she tolerate a wee bath to tidy her up. Makes me mad people treat animals like that

She's shaking and upset but we are going to have to bath her. Then lots of cuddles, she loves cuddles. Our pampered princesses are going to be jealous!

Evil did you take photos before the clean up (not uppermost on your mind when you're faced with an animal in such a hideous state of neglect, but if you do want to Report them...)

Bless her , poor love.
Tonight, she'll sleep in clean bedding. Probably the first time in ages .

I did take pictures but they don't show the smell or the foulness of it. Just started the bottom of the hutch. It's actually thicker in rotten litter and mouldy poos. More pictures. I'll post some of Judy after her bath later. She's so trusting it's heart breaking.

Words fail me. This was under her bed/where the chickens were nesting also. We had to use a paint scraper to remove it.
DH bought insecticide and is scrubbing with anti-bacterial as we speak.

Rank- you can see how digusting that is even without being able to smell it.
and some of those droppings look losenge shaped rather than spherical so I'm wondering if there were guinea-pigs/pig in there too?

If there were, they'd be lunch before they got to the garden gate.

I use a hand held steamer on my Piggies cage to clean then a spray with VikronS when I'm deep cleaning.

You didn't need a new rabbit but that rabbit needed you !

Heres Judy! Bathed, well fed and happier! shes just in the carrier until we organise which bunny goes where! (and see how our bunnies react to her!)
I got a message today from the lass I bought the hutch off saying the bunny is about 3, used to be a childs pet and she took her in with guinea pigs when her owners moved away. I dont trust myself to reply.
Good spot on the poops, there were 2 pigs that 'died'. Having seen the empty food bowl and filthy water bottle, I dread to think what happened to them.
Vets tomorrow-you can see her dodgy eye. Apparently caused by a twig when she escaped. She escaped a lot. No more, shes home now!

Well done Evil on rescuing Judy - she's gorgeous. Hope she settles in well with your two buns.

This kind of thing makes me so angry. I just don't understand how anyone can treat animals in that way - if only I was in charge, there'd be much tougher laws and harsher consequences Angry.

Fernie if it were up to me, animal abusers and paedophile would be hung. There's no excuse for this, she's so skinny you can feel all her bones. Dh certainly is my hero!

I had a nd as a child too, they're tough wee cookies! Had to postpone vet as we are the house of puke just now! She's beaten up our dwarf x lion head and is being ignored by our other nd, hoping two of them bond at least! She can't get enough food in her today!
