Pretty much what the title says. Saw a nice hutch and run for sale on fb, arranged to pick up today. DS was sick this morning so I stayed home with home with him while DH and DSD went to pick it up.
And he;s come home with another rabbit. The story is he met the guy at the farm who explained this rabbit had been left behind by its owner and then run off. Hence selling the hutch. While DH was there, bunny returned. Guy said he was just going to set it free, so DH said he'd take it. sigh. He did call me to ask, I said whatever you think!
So we have another netherland dwarf rabbit, stinkin of shit as is the hutch. she has a cloudy eye injury and if shes been running free and not speyed. Oh god, shes going to have 20 half-wild babies isnt she?
Our 2 dwarves have been scrapping of late, so fluffy one is DEFINITELY being speyed next week. Think this wee black one we;ve acquired needs to see the vet for her jabs ASAP.
Kids have called her Judy Hopps.
Must make a sign saying 'rabbit sanctuary'.

Oh, and she had manky flies on her, tho I cant see mites or fleas.
shes in a carry case just now beside our rabbits indoor cages. fluffy bun is curious, fat bun is nae speaking to this new thing!

is it too early for wine?

Aw very Sad
Take comfort that she had a few (if brief) weeks of care since she came to live with you, and if her previous 'owner' had his way she'd have been released and probably eaten in 24 hours.

You can't have known she was pg , rabbit babies are tiny so she wouldn't have shown much if she was only carrying a few.

Very sad but its her previous home that carry the blame and should shoulder any guilt.

Thanks. Still absolutely gutted. If only we'd known, we could have saved her kits and maybe her life.

Wee update. Found Judy dead in her Hutch this afternoon with two newborn kits beside her. We are absolutely heart broken. We didn't even know she was pregnant. Her Hutch mate and best friend is devastated also. We're so gutted. Can only guess that giving birth was just too much for her, poor wee bun. Can't stop crying, we only had her a few weeks Sad

You and your dh are ace, and you new addition is beautiful.
My boss rescued a Germany shepherd this week, his coat was so matted the rescue had to have him sedated and shaved by a vet. I can't fathom how people can neglect animals Sad

EastMidsGPs thanks! It makes me sick how some people treat innocent animals. She's settling nicely, tho still very nervous and frantic desperate around food. Ours are still unamused!
gardenangels I have no evidence to tell SSPCA (we've never seen guinea pigs), tho DH said goats and horses were knee deep in shit in their stalls. I did mention to my policeman friend (and chicken-keeper) that their chickens are free-roaming despite the avian flu restrictions still in place. I also mentioned bunny and her late piggy friends. He said he'd speak to his sspca inspector friend and see if he's passing that way!

DH is lovely and kind mostly

Please report to RSPCA as the two piggies died in squalor and bunny was neglected.

Your DH sounds like a lovely kind man.

Slightly off topic.
We were at the vets yet again yesterday with Moll.
Dr Chris commented as usual how great it was to treat a pig that was used to being handled and cared for. She said they'd had a bad couple of weeks with RSPCA referred cases. A rabbit that's foot was so infected, amputation was the only option and a dog that had been so badly kicked and beaten it had to be pts.
We shared anger on behalf of these animals and what we'd do to the scum who'd treated them so badly.
Told her about Judy and she Grin was so pleased Judy had found a forever home

Veterinari She is definitely going to the vet either tomorrow or thurs. Her teeth need checking and innocs are a must! Plus, I dont think she can see much out that eye.

Feel awful for fat bun outside in her nice hutch while Judy is in her inside cage, but I know its only temporary and when we swap tomorrow morning, they'll be able to smell each other and not fight like bitches

Hi OP, def get the eye checked - it could be pus from an injury but could also be a sign of E cuniculi infection, or possibly a cataract

Well done on rescuing her! Flowers

Aye, it looks like she's staying. Until her Hutch is finished we're swapping the two pure dwarves between their outside and inside cages (our babies come in at night for cuddles). Judy is beside herself, sleeping a lot and hopping! Fat bun unimpressed at cage swapping tho.....any hints on bonding feisty wee dwarves very welcome! Dh prefers 'hutch'! [Grin]

I had a nd as a child too, they're tough wee cookies! Had to postpone vet as we are the house of puke just now! She's beaten up our dwarf x lion head and is being ignored by our other nd, hoping two of them bond at least! She can't get enough food in her today!

Well done Evil on rescuing Judy - she's gorgeous. Hope she settles in well with your two buns.

This kind of thing makes me so angry. I just don't understand how anyone can treat animals in that way - if only I was in charge, there'd be much tougher laws and harsher consequences Angry.

Heres Judy! Bathed, well fed and happier! shes just in the carrier until we organise which bunny goes where! (and see how our bunnies react to her!)
I got a message today from the lass I bought the hutch off saying the bunny is about 3, used to be a childs pet and she took her in with guinea pigs when her owners moved away. I dont trust myself to reply.
Good spot on the poops, there were 2 pigs that 'died'. Having seen the empty food bowl and filthy water bottle, I dread to think what happened to them.
Vets tomorrow-you can see her dodgy eye. Apparently caused by a twig when she escaped. She escaped a lot. No more, shes home now!
Thanks! Grin
