Unwanted Hamster

Bit of a problem! I have a hamster who's becoming a bit of liability(!) and I was talking to a friend of mine of said they had a rabbit they had lost interest, so they solved it, cleverly I think, by talking it to an urban farm and quietly putting among the sheep and leaving the sheep to look after it :) I'm sure he's enjoying the company! Do you think I should do the same with my hamster? Really would appreciate the help as I'm stuck on what to do.....

No, I think he would be more at home in the python enclosure. HTH :)

BellaVita · 31/05/2013 19:31
Hmm
Spudvic · 31/05/2013 19:38

Really do you think so??? I thought the pythons would eat him but do they actually look after them???

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmm

When an animal goes "to the farm" it doesn't actually go to the farm (IYSWIM)

Now I'm reminded of a film "Animal Farm" that I saw.
And it was nothing to do with George Orwell Blush

Wallace · 31/05/2013 19:56

I think the pythons might like to give the hamster a cuddle? I have seen them giving small furry animals a nice big hug :)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/05/2013 20:00

And they do that "Climb inside my mouth if you want to live" scene from Finding Nemo.

But they have their fingers crossed behind their backs.
I'll totally ignore the fact that pythons don't have fingers Wink

FannyFifer · 31/05/2013 20:01

Wtaf are you talking about, the farm isn't real, sheep don't look after rabbits.

SanityClause · 31/05/2013 20:05

Pets at home have rescue animals. Maybe you could see if they can rehome it, if there's one near you.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/05/2013 20:12

How old is the hamster Spudvic.
They don't have the most genrous of lifespans.
How long has he been a 'liability' and what does that entail?

(My male guinea-pigs can try the patience of a saint sometimes but I'd never call them a liability or want to rehome them)

LEMisdisappointed · 31/05/2013 20:17

Our local zoo has the bunny wabbits right next to the reptile house so either or really!

Or maybe your local department store, stick it in one of those ball things and lose it among the zhu zhu pets?

If this a serious post though - yes, pets at home will likely take him

Spudvic · 31/05/2013 20:21

Another friend of mine just let it loose into the wild but it would probably die wouldn't it?

OP posts:
LEMisdisappointed · 31/05/2013 20:29

Yes, it will die - just take it to pets at home, someone's child can then love it get their fingers bit

MiniTheMinx · 31/05/2013 20:33

How can a hamster become a liability? It is in a hamster cage isn't it?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/05/2013 20:56

Don't let the poor little blighter loose. They are domesticated - the "wild" would be a cruel end for him.

If you really can't rehome him then do the decent thing and have him humanely PTS.
I happen to believe that responsible animal ownership is for the entire life. If you know you can rehome responsibly then fair enough.
But you cannot leave a little animal to face the elements.

(My GP1 is judgily looking at the screen now)

BellaVita · 31/05/2013 21:06

Strange first post OP.

Whatalotofpiffle · 31/05/2013 21:09

Where are you? I would like liability hamster to save him from sheep!

landofsoapandglory · 31/05/2013 21:11

Don't let it go loose, it won't be able to fend for it's self!

How is it a liablity? It is about 6 inches long, sleeps all day, just needs feeding, cleaning a couple times a week, getting out for a cuddle and a bit of exercise. Can you not ask the pet shop where you got it from if they will have it back, or Pets at Home?

You sound really heartless to me, TBH.

GoblinGranny · 31/05/2013 21:13

Don't want it, take it to a rescue centre. Then never get another animal.
I've adopted so many dumped animals over the years that I have no sympathy with people who just get bored with a pet.
Dumped into the wild, the majority of small furries will die within a week.

BriansBrain · 31/05/2013 21:14

How can a hamster become a liability Hmm ?

GoblinGranny · 31/05/2013 21:15

Because they can't clean their own cage and they need food and water every day.

Thumbtack · 31/05/2013 21:21

What the . . . What?

Hmm
GoSuckEggs · 31/05/2013 21:23

tough! you got the damn thing, now you need to damn well look after it!

JakeBullet · 31/05/2013 21:24

Yep, this is a very odd "first" post.

CairngomRockHunter · 31/05/2013 21:25

OP, where are you? I will willingly look after it.

VBisme · 31/05/2013 21:28

I hope to god this is a joke. Angry
