Hello all,
So glad to have found this thread - a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed time to post so generously.
I have recently been lucky enough to have been able to spend some money on seeing a fantastic nutritionist. She has really, really helped.
I've been taking magnesium glycinate for sleep and anxiety, a really good quality multivitamin and a gentle iron supplement. These have really helped with the fatigue and subsequent lack of exercise that leave me more susceptible to low mood and binging.
She's also helped me sort my blood sugar out by really upping my protein and fibre. I make sure I have 3 meals a day, plus snacks at consistent times.
Key to keeping my cravings and ravenous appetite under control has been getting in loads of protein - I try to make sure I've had 30g by 10am and another 30g with lunch. I aim for around 70-90g a day (I don't always manage it and I know that's hard if you're on a budget, but I used to spend a lot of money on binge food so...).
The times I have cracked, or have needed to eat a trigger food, I make sure to eat it with some protein, vegetable/salad and a bit of fat so it doesn't affect my blood sugar as much.
Anyway, hope some of these things help someone.
For me, looking after myself is like a house of cards. Sleep, nutrition, exercise, keeping control of mood... They all prop each other up and if one thing falls, it all goes to shit quite quickly! 😫
