Quit vaping

I was wondering if nicotine patches can help with vaping? I have vaped for the last 18 months having never smoked cigarettes and I can say it’s turned into a full blown addiction.

I have had periods where I gave up for anywhere between 5 weeks to 2 months mainly due to winter flus which caused my need to vape to disappear. Then I got lulled into a false sense of security and thought I buy another one knowing I’ve managed to give up and entered the whole cycle again.

I can vape the equivalent of a disposable a day on some days. I vape every day now. It’s a total waste of money - I worked out I could have had a long haul holiday for the money I spent on vapes in the last 18 months.

I don’t think I even actually enjoy it anymore. For 8 -9 hours a day I can’t vape in my job as it’s not allowed on the premises and I’m totally fine - don’t miss it - I’m occupied and busy and love the clear head I have. Then as soon as I have a bit of down time I’m on it puffing away at home or at social occasions. I then get what I term as cloudy head which I actually don’t enjoy.

I’ve tried hypnosis and Allen Carr book/ audio - not worked.

So I have bought nicotine patches with the nicotine lozenges. I really want to give up vaping forever before July. Has anyone used it and it helped? My job will help me somewhat as I don’t desire to vape then but it’s the time I’m free I’m more worried about.
Many thanks

No advice as I'm struggling too.

I switched to vapes to give up smoking cigs, which I managed immediately.

The problem now is I vape far more than I ever smoked. In the evenings I constantly vape. Where with cigarettes I would have about 5 a day!

Blondey2023 · 30/05/2023 18:41

In the same boat I'm afraid. I think I will just have to go cold turkey. I wasn't even a smoker so I have no excuse ☹️

Hoppingroo · 30/05/2023 18:48

That’s what I can’t get my head around - that I never smoked cigarettes in 39 years and now have a vaping addiction. I think it is because you can constantly puff away at it whereas with a cigarette you would have to relight another one. It took me a while to accept it was an addiction - I didn’t think it was - because I had never smoked cigarettes. So I’m going to try and patches ( arrives on Thursday - fingers crossed)

I was the same. Patches will definitely help but there is a lot of willpower involved. Follow the stages on the nicotine patches. For how long to use each stage etc. I have now been vape free for 1yr. Used the psyches for a few months to lowest nicotine and then stopped. Good luck, you will feel so much better for it

Bellabon · 31/05/2023 20:07

Used the patches that should say!!

Hoppingroo · 31/05/2023 20:46

Thank you mine arrive tomorrow:)

My sympathiesI was on about 3 cigs a day in stressful times
If I couldn't have any some days, I just didn't

I saw a thread on here, realised that disposable vapes meant it wasn't a faff anymore, and now I think I'm getting through a 500 puff vape in 3 days.

Ridiculous.

Hoppingroo · 01/06/2023 08:49

Can I ask if you still vaped whilst you used the patches or noticed that you cut down on the vapes whilst using them gradually until you stopped completely? I’ve read reviews online and it’s mixed - some say they still smoked and vaped but drastically reduced the number of cigarettes over 3 months and others say they stopped completely after 3 - 4 days of using the patches. Thanks :)

Nope I put my vape in the bin so I wouldn't be tempted at all to use it and started using patches which definitely do help kick the physical addiction to nicotine. I would be careful if you are planning to vape whilst you are using patches because I think if you get too much nicotine you can feel very very unwell. I accidentally used too high dosage of nicotine patch and ended up vomiting!

Bellabon · 01/06/2023 15:02

Good luck, you can do it! Patches will definitely help with the withdrawal side of things, its the habit of always holding the vape etc that you've got to try and kick. But you can do it if you put your mind to it

Hoppingroo · 01/06/2023 16:10

Thank you for your reply I put on my first patch this morning and I have had no desire to vape so far! I had some itching from the patch but that subsided within the first hour.

Ohhh really? I may have to do this, I just bought another elf bar 🙄🫣

Bellabon · 01/06/2023 16:44

Well done Hoppingroo, keep it up

Hoppingroo · 02/06/2023 11:13

I feel like this confirms it was a nicotine addiction as I don’t actually feel the need to hold a vape in my hand when the patch is on. I’m going to follow the stages and reduce the dosage slowly over the next 6 weeks. I did take it off last night as I had heard it can give you weird dreams and woke up twice with a sudden craving for the vape - which I managed to work through without vaping. I guess means I should keep the patch on for 24 hours as advertised and risk the weird dreams!

The patches are worth the money as I’m spending less than half on them then I did for the weekly amount of vapes I was getting through.

Glad to hear it! Can't say I had ant weird dreams sleeping with them on, maybe give it a go and see what happens?

Topseyt123 · 05/06/2023 00:05

I think patches should help as they deliver a constant dose without the peaks and troughs, which is when you would be likely to get the cravings.

I believe they are meant to be worn for 24 hours a day and changed at approximately the same time each day, slowly reducing the dose over a few weeks. No breaks, and when you apply the new one you should put it on a different patch of skin to minimise the possibility of your skin starting to react to it.

That's roughly how my formerly heavy cigarette smoking mother uses them anyway, though I doubt she will bother reducing the dose ever.

Bellabon · 06/06/2023 19:27

@Hoppingroo how is it going?

Hoppingroo · 06/06/2023 20:11

Very well thank you😀it’s my sixth day with no vaping. I didn’t have to use the nicotine patches at all for Sunday or Monday and I only used it for 3 hours on Saturday which was good! I did use a patch for most of today as a craving suddenly came on this morning so I put one on in case I was tempted to buy a vape.

I think I’m just seeing how each day goes. and recognising my danger times of when I might want a vape.

Hopefully I can phase the patches out after a while. I have noticed I have more energy in the evenings. I’m also happy about not spending the money on vapes and feeling guilty about it. 😀😀😀

Amazing! That's so good, well done you, you'll continue to notice how much better you feel in yourself

Hoppingroo · 06/06/2023 20:19

Thank you - all the advice on this thread has been helpful. I just keep thinking how amazing I will feel in 3 months knowing the vape doesn’t control me anymore.

I've switched to 0% vapes which are much cheaper but still occasionally use my 3% one. Going to try to cut them all out by July. Well done @Hoppingroo you have inspired me to stop. I'm the same as you, I can go for hours when I'm busy but the second I am thinking again I need a vape (even though there's no bloody nicotine in it!!!)

Hoppingroo · 06/06/2023 20:38

I hope it goes well Plankingplanks. I also tried to use 0% vapes a few times over the last three months to stop but I found that I hated the fact there was no sensation/ buzz from them and ended up buying the normal vape out of frustration.
I have read though that many other vapers have been successful with using 0 vapes.

Its only coming up to a week for me without them so my motivation will be to remember the good feeling I have without them, the money I’ll save or at least spend on more productive things and using the nicotine patches. I’m on 21mg when I use them - I’ve got another box of 21mg and one of 14mg left so will see how it goes. I’ve been munching on sugar free polo mints and nicotine 1mg lozenges as and when I need to.

I knew I had a problem when I started vaping with my morning coffee at 5:30am. It just creeps up on you and you start doing it more and more.

Plankingplanks · 06/06/2023 21:30

@Hoppingroo i wake up in the night and vape!!! And it's 0%!! Riddle me that!! 🤣

I'm going to leave my 3% one at home tomorrow and try to go just on the 0% all day.

Allthecatsandcosyblankets · 24/06/2023 08:11

To the people using 0% vapes- are these disposable vapes? Or 0% e liquid? My vape never leaves my mouth and I've tried gum, lozenges and patches to no avail.

The patches made me super sick to the point I almost fainted then I realised the nic was too high as the liquid I use is only 6%

Could anyone link a 0% vape that doesn't taste bad as the 0% liquid I bought tastes vile
