So let's play Barbie. I'll post my picture and you can dress me...

Ok, so following on from my last rather confusing thread where it became clear I don't have a clue about my body shape or how to dress it I have decided to post a photo of my sorry bod for you all to dress (I've set it as my profile pic).

For those of you without the time to trawl through the old thread, the basics are:

  • I am very short waisted
  • I tend to suit bolder/brighter colours and can't wear beige, grey and pastels
  • I'm still a bit flabby around the middle after DC2
  • I need access to boobs to feed DC2
  • I had a huge clear out last week and now have no clothes!!!
  • Oh, and I'm broke, so need to fill my wardrobe on a budget

Not much to ask is it?!

PS. I would just like to add that I would never wear the top from the photo in public - heaven forbid! I just needed a 'warts n all' top for the pic.

I think a wrap dress would work, you have fantastic legs -- and it would help define a waist and you'd still be able to feed DC2...

I shall go a'hunting for one

nikki1978 · 06/07/2010 10:05

You need to wear things that balance your hips and shoulders out. So wear patterns on your bottom half or full skirts. Have you ever done the Gok Wan style consultation?

gok.channel4.com/

He is annoying but great at telling you what to wear to flatter your figure!

nikki1978 · 06/07/2010 10:06

And by the way you are definitely not overweight!

neverquitesure · 06/07/2010 10:21

Ooooooo - a dress sounds nice . Will post pics of me wearing anything I buy. Promise!

Gok says I'm a Bewitching Butterfly and, apparently, quite fabulous too. What a nice chap. Not sure if I filled it in properly though as he's telling me I need to show off my (non-existent) waist, wear prints up top and hide my thighs . He also says "To be honest sweet cheeks, a pair of jeans isn?t going to be the most flattering thing on you" which, although I may be deluding myself here, I thought looked ok on me

Thanks for the not overweight comment. I'm currently carrying an extra stone and although I know I'm not fat it has hit my self confidence a bit.

Amandoh · 06/07/2010 11:32

Unless he means "Avoid gold Kylie style hotpants" I think Gok is wrong about hiding your thighs. They look very slim in jeans.

As you do have such good legs what do you think of this Pearl Lowe for Peacocks playsuit? Buttons at the front for boob access and just £30.00 for a whole outfit.

Or how about these Esprit wrap front dresses which come in bright colours and are just £22.00?

neverquitesure · 06/07/2010 11:50

So I have to get rid of my gold Kylie hotpants now?!?! Damn it!!

Love the playsuit I had sort of assumed they were a no-go area for me but think they are fabulous so will give it a go. How generous are peacocks sizes? I'm thinking a 12 should do it???

Esprit dresses are nice too but the cups are quite low so not sure if they'd cover big boobs and in a nursing bra. Probably worth a try though so might order one in blue...

neverquitesure just giggling at your post re your gok advice I am aparently a 'racey ruler'

WhatsWrongWithYou · 06/07/2010 12:12

You could wear capris with your long slim legs - a bit smarter and cuter than jeans, maybe under a dress.

Esprit have loads of them.

I've had dresses from Esprit (although in a different style) and I'm an e-cup. It's a question of try it and see, as you said.

And I agree you'd look fab in a playsuit.

neverquitesure · 06/07/2010 12:30

Racey ruler?! Sounds just fabulous darling! And what pearls of wisdom does Gok have for you? Actually, just redone mine and I might be an Alluring Apple - the advice seems to make a bit more sense, although I'm still not sure I should be purposefully drawing attention to my waist.

Capris sound fun. DH likes it when I pop a pair of flip flops on, roll my jeans up and mess about in the garden so I'm guessing they'd be a hit with him. I shall have a look round on the Esprit website and see what I can find...

Generally Peacocks sizing is generous but being their "designer celeb" line it may come up a little small. Glad you like it. I wish I had the legs for it.

toucancancan · 06/07/2010 13:03

This will hide your stomach and show off your thighs and legs:

diddl · 06/07/2010 13:44

I´m also a bewitching butterfly!

Odd as my figure is no where near as good as yours OP!

BTW I think you look great in jeans.

neverquitesure · 06/07/2010 14:27

Ahh - thanks y'all . This thread has definitely cheered me up.

I'm loving, loving, LOVING the cut and drapery of the M&S tunic. However, I think it might have too much nude/pastel pink in for my skin tone and not sure if it's stretchy enough to bf in. I'm nothing if not picky! I do just love that shape though.

OP posts:
colditz · 06/07/2010 14:34

FABULOUS legs. Wear flouncy skirts and v neck tops

WhatsWrongWithYou · 06/07/2010 14:44

How about this?
See-through I know but you could wear a matching vest under?
I agree with the flouncy skirt suggestion - you should show your legs off. Wear them above the knee for minimum frump quota.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 06/07/2010 14:50

Not the best example, I now.

neverquitesure · 06/07/2010 15:12

I have ordered the ASOS top in black - it's adorable! I have a black nursing vest that should do the job underneath - might even look nice with a white vest under it (or maybe that would draw too much attention to my, ahem, 'problem' areas?)

I can see how that skirt shape could work really well - no added bulk at the hips and all attention drawn to my legs.

Hold on, I'll be back with another M+S one...

toucancancan · 06/07/2010 15:37

Here, a deep purple:

WhatsWrongWithYou · 06/07/2010 19:02

If you think a few different coloured vests might be useful, Dorothy Perkins have decent long-line ones @3 for £12.
Ooh, and I bought a slinky t-shirt dress from H&M for £7.99!
DH loves it and keeps trying to get me to wear it in the evenings with high heels .
You could put a short wrap cardi on top for some shape definition.

neverquitesure · 06/07/2010 19:11

Oh cruel fate!! Had watched it on the catwalk (love it when sites do that) and decided to order but sold out in my size!

I'm really liking the suggestions though - any more ideas?

OP posts:
neverquitesure · 06/07/2010 20:57

Missed your last post WhatsWrongWithYou - I trust you are currently in your t-shirt dress and high heels (funny you should say that as first thing I thought when I saw the ASOS top is I bet DH will have me in that - just that - in the evening. All the same aren't they )

Shall have to have a good look about on the DP site.

I'm going shopping tomorrow, if I see anything I'll report back.
