Ok, so following on from my last rather confusing thread where it became clear I don't have a clue about my body shape or how to dress it I have decided to post a photo of my sorry bod for you all to dress (I've set it as my profile pic).

For those of you without the time to trawl through the old thread, the basics are:

  • I am very short waisted
  • I tend to suit bolder/brighter colours and can't wear beige, grey and pastels
  • I'm still a bit flabby around the middle after DC2
  • I need access to boobs to feed DC2
  • I had a huge clear out last week and now have no clothes!!!
  • Oh, and I'm broke, so need to fill my wardrobe on a budget

Not much to ask is it?!

PS. I would just like to add that I would never wear the top from the photo in public - heaven forbid! I just needed a 'warts n all' top for the pic.

neverquitesure Gok said I should stay away from skinny jeans (which are my total staple) and go for wide-leg and also opt for funnel neck coats which I hate!

And then on the trousers said go for the cigerette pants! (but why 'no' to skinny jeans?!)

Bobbalina · 06/07/2010 21:53

From the photo I don't think you look a beautiful butterfly! That shape has bigger hips than top half and you look to have slightly wider shoulders than hips to me.

I think an empire line dress woul look good. also think you have an enviable figure and are lovely and slim (and brave!!!)

Bobbalina · 06/07/2010 22:06

I think you are a cone- check out advice for that body shape!

Bobbalina · 06/07/2010 22:23

Cones can wear skinnies btw

I am a cone too but a tubbier one!

Skirts to the knee or above work well on me, low waists are good and A line or volume or asymmetric skirts are all good.

Cropped cardigans suit me - do you wear those?

Also White trousers are good for the summer with a darker top. Gap had some nice White low rise flares this summer. I wore these with a purple vest top, long beads and a green cropped wrapover cardigan and folk liked the look.

Just to say OP-if I had a figure as good as yours I´d wear whatever I wanted!

Anything to show off those legs & emphasis boobs tbh.

toucancancan · 07/07/2010 18:56

Just back from a day round the shops. There's loads of good sale stuff left if you can make it to the shops neverquitesure. I'd especially recommend Debenhams - they have up to 70 percent off - the website's crap but they have LOADS of great stuff instore, including Oasis, Coast, Warehouse. And Zara and Dorothy Perkins have lots of flattering dresses and the River Island sale starts tomorrow.

neverquitesure · 07/07/2010 21:48

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your lovely compliments - looking at my photo again I can see it in a different, better, light now. I'll follow the legs and boobs advice diddl!

Ok, so a bit of a play around on the Gok site and - like you said Bobbalina - I'm now a Classic Cone (and plagued with mental renditions of just one cornetto, give it to me...) I'm a little dubious about the "slender torso" bit - I'm more wide and square - but would agree with the long limbed bit. The advice seems to make a lot more sense too and - best of all - I can wear my skinny jeans again (like Jewelsandgems they're kind of a staple item) His skirt advice makes me mourn the sad and untimely demise of the puffball again. I guess the tulip skirt is it's fashion replacement??

I did manage a quick round of the shops today before my eldest (20 months, bless him) realised he'd been conned and this wasn't a fun day out at all. I did manage a peek at the Debenhams sale which, like you said toucancancan is way better than what's on the website. Sadly, my only 2 purchases were from the children's section though!!

PS - haven't worn cropped cardigans for ages as I worried that they would make me look 'squarer'. I shall give them another go now and experiment with different shapes.

Hello nqs, fellow classic cone!

Tulip skirts are good and are very current. V necklines and also really deep vs with a camisole underneath might work well for you?

What are/were your fave shops?

neverquitesure · 07/07/2010 22:28

I think I could love the tulip. The only thing that put me off initially is that they are often cut with high waistbands - but of course there is nothing to stop me pairing it with a longer, untucked top or just going for a dress. I do have one v-necked dress that survived the wardrobe cull and it does seem to break my torso up a bit - so I think deep vs would look nice.

Fave shops were TopShop, Oasis, Red Herring, Oliver Bonas and a couple of little local shops that stock unusual items (statement pieces I guess you'd call them). That was back when I was 1 stone lighter, flat chested and didn't have a grubby handed toddler and refluxy baby .

Think I'm going to have to go and stay with my Mum and get her to look after my eldest whilst I hit the shops...

Awww - thanks booyhoo. I think I'm learning to love it x

Opinions on the following please. Be brutal - I can take it

Black & white chiffon dress which I'd wear with a black vest and leggings

Colourful tulip wrap dress which I'd wear either bare legged or over tights/leggings. Not sure if this would draw too much attention to my high waist line?

Black tunic dress - might draw too much attention to boobs maybe? I think I'd wear this over jeans depending on the length

Black and grey stripe tunic top - I'm really not sure about the colour or style of this (grey's not really my colour and I think it might make my shoulders look massive), but wanted a second opinion.

Sliver grey tulip skirt which I love but don't have a clue what I would wear it with or if it would suit. I wouldn't be able to wear anything tucked in as I'm too high waisted so would run the risk of looking like I'm all boob up top

I am going to try to get round the shops for an hour or so tomorrow, so might even have an outfit to post pics of at some point.

The heat has obviously gone to my head as I'm considering these bloomer shorts from ASOS .

I think I might need a gentle slap - they make the size 8 model in the pic look a bit chunky and I'd be (optimistically) ordering a 12...

I think you have pretty good taste.I like all the clothes you have picked.I am a similar size to you up top and i tend to go for low necklines or buttoned henley type t- shirts.I do wear vest tops with low necklines and long pendant necklaces to draw the eye downwards - again due to broad shoulders. How about short denim skirts as a sort of uniform with a interesting top and necklace [ as your legs are good].I speak as the mother of 4 dc's [ and dh abroad] .My 'uniform' is normally jeans/denim skirt and plain t-shirt/tunic with necklace/scarf.Its much easier to get dressed in the morning if time is short and you have an edited collection of clothes.

Bobbalina · 08/07/2010 23:01

Tulip wrap dress I suspect won't suit Your shoulders because of the sleeves

l really love the midzor top and also like the black jersey dress

not keen on the black and White dress or the tulip skirt...also think you need to find things with colour!!!
