I don't wash my own unless they smell really starchy and new, but I always wash DS's.

I do (see link to thread for reasons)

seeker · 03/07/2010 08:27

NO! Why would you? And while I'm on the subject, will people please stop washing things if they aren't dirty! I'd like my children to have some plantet left when they grow up!

I haven't until now - but with the emergence of an allergy (as opposed to an intolerance based on anti-histamine relieving it) I will be from now on

not for me
for the kids and DH yes (eczema)

BooKangaWonders · 03/07/2010 08:47

always for dc, not really for adults unless it's underwear!
(But a very quick eco wash I promise, Seeker!)

lal123 · 03/07/2010 08:59

Noooo - once you wash them they don't look all nice nad new anymore!

veryconfusedandupset · 03/07/2010 09:56

what is the point of buying new clothes and washing them ? you may as well buy second hand stuff on ebay! When something is new I try to wear it as much as possible before washing it, it never looks quite so nice afterwards.

Bonsoir · 03/07/2010 09:57

No; but my DP thinks you should. It's a bit of a bone of contention between us!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 03/07/2010 09:58

Wash new jeans to avoid blue legs!! I used to sit in the bath with my new Levis on back in the day to supposedly shrink them to fit!!!

mistressploppy · 03/07/2010 10:02

I can honestly say it has never occurred to me. I only wash new baby clothes.

TrillianAstra · 03/07/2010 10:10

No, because I am impatient and want to wear my new thing.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 03/07/2010 10:12

Nah, only newborn stuff

champagnesupernova · 03/07/2010 10:15

I usually wear stuff and have started not washing DS's if something is new but I did watch an episode of House where someone got some kind of grim disease from a pair of jeans so am wary

kimbles1984 · 03/07/2010 10:18

no, they dont look as nice once washed!

NorbertDentressangle · 03/07/2010 10:18

No but I think I did with newborn clothes.

samsonara · 03/07/2010 10:30

never have washed new clothes, not even for newborns, hasn't been a prob for us, but obviously if you are worried about rash or skin reactions then it's the thing to do

LaDiDaDi · 03/07/2010 10:46

Never ever have done. Waste of time and energy.

castille · 03/07/2010 10:50

Ditto supernova, that one stuck in my mind too

Moral do not buy clothes that have fallen off the back of a lorry

Schoolwoes · 03/07/2010 10:54

I do if they smell of chemicals- which some clothes do- formaldehyde etc used to coat them.

MrsDinky · 03/07/2010 10:55

Did for DCs as babies, then stopped bothering, but twice recently DD has developed a rash all over her torso after wearing new clothes and I keep getting all over itchy skin, so I am going to start doing it again.

thecatatemygymsuit · 03/07/2010 11:02

Why do people do this for babies' clothes, just out of interest? And if so why not for you own clothes?
I never did so but am now wondering if I should have, especially as dd has dry-ish skin.

mamatomany · 03/07/2010 11:07

Sorry but I always do, having worked in a clothes shop I know how many other people have tried on the clothes, have worn them once and returned them, kids have wiped their dirty hands and snotty noses on them the list is endless. It's like working in a kitchen you'd never want to eat out again if you saw what goes on.
