Is a denim skirt and leggings combo a bit teenagery?

Would like to get out of my jeans rut and wear leggings a bit more (obviously not in this weather though!). I like the denim skirt and leggings look but not sure whether I could get away with it, being the 'wrong' side of 30? Also is it not particularly flattering if you have short legs and a big bum ?

yes I agree with tracey and the others - try it, if you like it then of course you're not too old. I am the wrong side of 30 too, and you would have to prise my leggings and denim mini from my cold dead hands (legs??).

You could also investigate dresses with leggings? (very not-cutting-edge but I think it can still look great)

Try different lengths of legging - some people look better in full length, some (admittedly not many) in mid-calf, some in pedal pushers. I think (for those of us with ample rears) it's also worth making sure that the skirt is truly a-line and not too long.

i think it really depends on your style and if you can pull it off to feel comfortable.

(not that we are talking about some fashion forward look here, fgs.)

I am 40 and wear footless tights with denim skirts and other skirts and dresses constantly.

some at the knee some several inches above, some loose, some tight, and I do not have great legs. (hence leggings)

I think I look fine and I get enough compliments to make me think I'm not totally in cuckoo land.

mslucy · 30/06/2010 12:42

wear it
you will look great.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 30/06/2010 12:47

I wear them. But to be fair most teenagers look older than me.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 30/06/2010 16:30

I intend to wear leggings with a maternity denim skirt and knee-high boots this winter when I will be 8 months pregnant and in need of comfort and covering. I do have a big bum but I don't have short legs.

GetOrfMoiLand · 30/06/2010 16:36

As long as you don't wear ugg boots with it i think it's all right.

BUT it is 100 degrees out there dammit, how the bloody hell can you bear to wear them?

willybreeder · 30/06/2010 17:50

Maxi dresses are great! Best if with an empire line or nipped in at waist so not too billowy.
Floaty skirts with a vest top and type of cardigan in just shoulders - sounds strange but nice cover up if tops of arms are not toned. Stressco's has a range that I noticed were reduced to £5

Have denim Skirts with leggings come back in yet? I'm in my late 30's and it's what I mostly wear.

wanttosinglikemarycoughlan · 24/08/2014 14:32

I think you could get away with the look with a darker coloured cord skirt
My friend wears this look and its good. It blends in more and is less obviously leggings

m0therofdragons · 24/08/2014 14:36

Eeek that's what I'm wearing today. I think I look nice. Leggings with short t shirt is a no no though.

Andy182 · 24/08/2014 14:38

It's what I'm wearing today too. And I was just thinking about getting some Ugg boots to complete the look.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/08/2014 14:39

I wear this all the time, short denim skirt. I'm 23 and a size 10 and only 5'2", I think it looks fine but am probably wrong .

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 24/08/2014 14:46

I'm 5'2 and 12 ish but with no bum and I think it looks ok and I'm knocking on 40.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 24/08/2014 14:47

Obvs I have an actual bum

KatherinaMinola · 24/08/2014 14:49

Reported.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/08/2014 15:02

Why is this this thread reported Katherina, have I missed something? Confused

Greengardenpixie · 24/08/2014 15:17

Well, mmm....i think it looks ok and it totally depends upon the person. My friend wears it..she has long legs and wears it with a knee length denim skirt and her crocs...but it looks fine and not tarty at all...It looks comfy and casual and like she doesnt give a shit which i respect.
I have never worn it.. but i am a young looking 46.
I have long hair....i shouldnt have at my age..far too old.
I wear fashionable things...i should only wear clothes out of the co-op for old ladies.
I wear short skirts...i should wear below the knee now and never above.
Who makes these rules???
my answer...wear what suits you!!!!

pebblestack · 24/08/2014 15:21

LOL this thread is 4 years old!

If it was teenagery then, it's wildly outdated now Grin

Floisme · 24/08/2014 15:26

I thought fashion was supposed to be about having fun with clothes? If you like them op, wear them, life's too short.

Greengardenpixie · 24/08/2014 15:26

ha ha ha..so it is!!!! but who cares???
Who bumped it and why??? Andy????

Floisme · 24/08/2014 15:27

Grin What's happened to the zombie alert?

ElephantsNeverForgive · 24/08/2014 15:31

Who cares. Jeans and a long sleeved Tshirt/jumper every day of the winter is boring. Dresses are expensive (or no longer than a cheaper tunic) and tights are the pits!

Trills · 24/08/2014 15:33

Clearly this look is a classic if we are discussing it four years later.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/08/2014 16:37

Ahh right. See it now.

velourvoyageur · 24/08/2014 19:28

I personally wouldn't but you said you like it so go ahead :)

Of course you could get away with it :) don't be silly, there is no wrong side of 30!
