this palce can anyone tell me what it is like - thinking of my birthday treat.. after cycling there

Yup I've been. It's good fun. The rooftop pool is nice, you get a decent view over the rooftops (pretty cold when you get out mind). There is a large pool with a jacuzzi bit downstairs, and some quite modern funky steam "pods" with different scents and rain showers on the middle floor. Massages etc are extra.

Only bad thing is that it does get pretty packed at weekends (lots of hen groups) and there can be a bit of a queue for the changing rooms.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 28/06/2010 18:19

A couple of friends from overseas went and thought it was fab, but I've not I'm afraid. I'm hoping to go with DP for his birthday (I'm going to give him a pair of vouchers for this so kind of hoping he'll want me to accompany him) but not for a month or so.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 28/06/2010 18:20

Oh yes mini - my friends raved about the scented things and the rain showers.

FolornHope · 28/06/2010 18:21

yes i liked it
they said DONT do saturdays.
its great for when you havent seen peoplefor ages and need to catch up
think treatements are ££ anda bit crap
someone on here said buy ?2hrs then get a coffee( we had lunch as we had 4 hrs anyway) in the cafe that extends your ticket for 45 mins

someone else said the backpackers place nearby will hold luggage etc/shopping.
they charge for gowns etc.
take a mag if you might run out of chat.
we started at the top and worked down - its all on diffo floors

Zoonose · 28/06/2010 18:21

Have been twice and is great, did tha 2 hours for £22 thing or whatever it is. loved the rooftop pool. Would recommend - though the bottom poll is basically like the top one just not outdoors.

ivykaty44 · 28/06/2010 19:04

Maryqueenofchocs · 28/06/2010 21:23

I live in Bath. been many times, friday pm would be fine, steam rooms fab, you can pay for a gown/slippers £9 I think, roof top pool amazing at night..

ivykaty44 · 28/06/2010 22:52

mary thank you - see my birthday is a saturday, i shall leave home on th wednesday and thursday cycle further south and hoping to get to bath on the friday.

as you live in bath - can you tell me is it easy to get into the city along the canal from th east?

OP posts:
Keziahhopes · 29/06/2010 00:42

Hope you get to go - I have been twice... the steam rooms are great, and roof top pool especially. So relaxing. Not tried any treatments, didn't feel the need to.

If go for a drink in cafe you get extra 45mins on top of your session and they allow 15mins for getting changed, so you get 3hrs then for the 2hr deal. The food is quite expensive, but think they do a Friday night deal - meal and spa included.

Maryqueenofchocs · 29/06/2010 08:38

Ivy, very easy. I take it you'll be coming from Bradford on Avon way, nice pub at Bathampton called The George - a cyclist haven as it sits on canal. I run it sometimes, its beautiful.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 29/06/2010 09:17

As Mary says, it's very easy.

I'd suggest coming off the canal at Sydney Gardens and cycling along Great Pultney Street to get to the Spa.

It is indeed very pretty. And at one point you can see my house. And my office. Perhaps I should put a banner out for you

ivykaty44 · 29/06/2010 17:59

No I shall be coming from warwick - so will be through cirencester and down through quite roads - sort of looking at batheastern?

OP posts:
absalom · 29/06/2010 19:43

I went there in April for 4 hours and had the BEST night's sleep I've ever had afterwards! 'Twas wonderful.

Maryqueenofchocs · 29/06/2010 19:45

Ivy, I grew up around Warwick, are you stalking me

SweetCecilyisasecretcrackwhore · 29/06/2010 19:50

Tis fab - love the scented steam pods and the roof top pool is amazing on a crisp sunny winter afternoon!!! (I know its summer but thought I would throw it in!)

flyingwellundertheradar · 29/06/2010 19:57

Is there a hotel package which includes use of the spa? Can you take a teenage daughter with you?

ivykaty44 · 29/06/2010 20:17

no - its just a day sort of trip - honest mnary - who are you she wonders? and did I knwo you growing up?

no teen daughter will be 18 so have booked her a flight to spain and she has to take her sister of 11 with her - to see their grama who lives there..its ok I am not sending them on holidays on there own though.

Plus teen daughter would cycle with me, this is my time

If you come into Bath via Batheaston, you'll join the canal at the George. From there it's a couple of easy miles to Sydney Gardens (which you access via a little gateway). I know it's an easy couple of miles BTW as it's my route to work (when I take my bike rather than my car that is, I'd be lying if I said it was a daily event!).

Are you spending the night in Bath?

ivykaty44 · 30/06/2010 21:57

well - i would like my dad to come pick me up and camp somewhere? we thought chew valley - but not sure how far that is- any more advice would be graetful tia

OP posts:
JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 01/07/2010 10:39

Chew Valley isn't too far. There's a sweet campsite here too. I think the facilities are probably a bit basic and this is reflected in the reviews. I've only visited, never camped there, but lots of friends have done so and it's popular with local families (which might be a PITA!).

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 01/07/2010 10:50

Oh - if you do stay in the Bath area, seeing as your Dad will have the car I really recommend this place for dinner. It's lovely. Do book though. Just had a quick Google and there's a campsite nearby, too.

ivykaty44 · 01/07/2010 17:36

Jenai - thank you very much the second campsite and the Kings arms look close and as dad has his own electric and the frdge will run on gas - we aren't worried about electric hookups

also as we will be able ot cycle back into bath with realative ease - well easier than trying to park the campervan - it will be great (uk is so difficult about parking larger vehicles - over the channel is so much easier)

with your help I should have a good stay at the end of my cycle and a relaxing spa

OP posts:
JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 01/07/2010 18:12

Into Bath from Monkton Farleigh will be fine but do check the terrain - I think the campsite is up a bastard big hill. Having said that, you sound like a seasoned cyclist, the type who laughs in the face of steep gradients

Far, far easier though to bring a bike into Bath along the canal than attempt to park a car, let alone a campervan, in town, particularly on a Saturday. Picking you up will be fine, but if you and your dad wanted to explore Bath for any length of time then cycling is the way to go.
