What colour nail varnish is best for toes?

GeekOfTheWeek · 23/06/2010 19:09

I need some inspiration for my toes.

Currently wearing a very bright orange but I don't really like it. It looks strange against my fake tan iyswim!

I usually have varying shades of red on but am fed up of that colour.

I need a nice colour for my holidays (beach type).

What colour is fashionable at present?

I have no idea about what's fashionable in toe colours, but mine are currently a fetching shade of silvery blue

cakeywakey · 23/06/2010 19:11

I like mine gold in the summer, quite a pale metallic shade, seems to go with everything and doesn't stain my nails.

traceybath · 23/06/2010 19:11

Blues and greens very fashionable but not my thing really.

I'm currently wearing rouge noir and like red, bright pink, coral and beigey colours.

southeastastra · 23/06/2010 19:13

i still like my nails inc the thames colour, just looks differenct

I have a really pale silver one just now, almost metallic white. Looks nice with a tan and doesn't stain

But I don't know if it's fashionable!

doggiesayswoof · 23/06/2010 19:22

Nude beigey colours (non-metallic) look lovely with a tan as well imo

traceybath · 23/06/2010 19:22

Hyper-ventilates at thought of metallic gold leopard print - how much does that cost to get done vicar if you don't mind me asking.

HurleySatOnMe · 23/06/2010 19:28

I have gold on atm. From Poundland of all places, and hasn't shipped at all (been on a week and am a flip flop wearer, so is obviously made of super stuff)

FolornHope · 23/06/2010 19:30

not blue or bronze imo
bright red " cherries in the snow"
OPi hot hot hot
or similar

FolornHope · 23/06/2010 19:31

NOTHING frosted

WoodlandFaerie · 23/06/2010 19:31

clear, with sparkles. They look healthy and natural.

But I like that look. I like minimal but perfect make-up, good foundation to cover the wrinkles/bad skin, little mascara to lengthen lashes, natural coloured lip pencil covered with sparkly lip gloss.

finger and toe nails, natural, clear, with a sparkle, feet and hands well moisturised.

notjustapuppymum · 23/06/2010 19:33

traceybath Minx veneers cost about £20-£25 a set and should last about 4-5 weeks if you're wearing open toes most of the time.

TheFallenMadonna · 23/06/2010 19:34

Clear atm, but will be a sort of grey purple later on.

noddyholder · 23/06/2010 19:34

Clear does look best

FolornHope · 23/06/2010 19:35

revlon coral also nice
revlon almost do the nicest shades, they have a great bluey magenta that is nice plum (?) seduction

traceybath · 23/06/2010 19:35

Thanks notjustapuppymum - may have to look into that.

I do think a clear topcoat makes a massive difference to the shine and how long the varnish lasts.

FolornHope · 23/06/2010 19:35

ew ew ew ew no
am allergic to naked toes nails

ThatVikRinA22 · 23/06/2010 19:37

traceybath - it cost me £16, but that includes having your nails cut/filed and cuticles done too. ive had mine on about 6 weeks so far - (its starting to grow off!) - ill need it taking off and doing again soon. you can just take it off yourself with a hairdryer set on warm - it peels off.

im going to have it redone though. i love it! there are some fab designs!

take a look!

BendyBob · 23/06/2010 19:38

Ooh minxing! Can I please just ask those that know...I'm on the verge of getting mine done. Does it really last a few weeks? I don't think I can afford to keep having it done if it only lasts a week at a time.

Do they need special care at all. Do they survive baths and swimming?

ThatVikRinA22 · 23/06/2010 19:43

i had mine done in May. no special care at all and it doesnt chip or come off.

its actually just starting to grow out so needs re doing but its still as good as the day it was done!

its survived sweaty running shoes, gym, baths, showers, you name it!
im having it done again. only on my toes though - id not have it on my finger nails.

PotPourri · 23/06/2010 19:45

I like red, pink, purple and petrol blue. Not keen on anything remotely toned to the skin for some reason

BendyBob · 23/06/2010 19:45

Hm thanks Vicar

Any reason no good for fingers? Maybe no strong enough?

Also my little toenail is some sort of pre-historic throwback toenail and isn't really there so to speak (god the things I confess on here). Will I still be able to have a veneer on it?

NorbertDentressangle · 23/06/2010 19:51

I got fed up of the dark red colour I'd been wearing so have opted for a metallic turquoise.

You do need a bit of a tan to get away with it though.
