1940s red lipstick?

omnishambles · 16/06/2010 13:57

I know this is a bizarre ask but does anyone know any shade of red lipstick available now (any range) that is a good deep dark red (with blue tones) and not pink? I have bought one from Rimmel last week and one from Benefit yesterday both which were completely wrong and pink (even though the counter person swore blind that it was right).

I need it next week to complete a 40s outfit for Glasto...

Lipstick Queen and Mac both do lovely, vintage reds. Pricier than Rimmel but should do the job!!

The colour's called Russian Red - I love it!

OneFishTwoFish · 16/06/2010 15:38

There's a big MAC counter in House of Fraser at Monument tube.

I love the MAC shade woo Ruby Woo which is a lovely red with blue undertones.

OneFishTwoFish · 16/06/2010 15:38

Ruby Woo

Not sure where the extra woo came from!

omnishambles · 16/06/2010 16:02

omnishambles · 16/06/2010 16:59

thanks will let you know what I come back with.

Am going to practice my victory rolls tonight - the rolls themselves are ok - round some device from claires accessories but my hair is so frizzy that it doesnt realy look right. Will persevere.

my top tip for flawless rolls-is curl your hair first!, then the hair behaves iself a bit more even if its just a quick pin curl on damp hair whilst it drys.

will try o find a pic of my victory roll.......

iMum · 16/06/2010 17:48

ok some pics up now on my profile-can mist hair with setting solution too then pin curl, dry then style into rolls and spray like mad!

omnishambles · 16/06/2010 17:57

OMG they look amazing how do you get it to curl to the side like that? My hair is already very curly - will go into ringlets if I curl it or let it dry.

The problem that is its too long at the front really and have lots of wispy bits that dont do anything grr am just hopeless at 'groomed' normally am all over festival hair as mine does california surf chick naturally - ie a bit blonde and a lot of mess...

ok so i part my hair on one side, comb lke crazy and gradually roll around my finger towards my head-let me find you a youtube link......... lisa freemont street is ace and has loads of helpful youtube vids. btw my hair is really long but it seems to work out!

omnishambles · 16/06/2010 18:18

good grief...that video is great...

I think maybe my hair is just too thin then - will try and try again - its probably going to get rained on anyway...

omnishambles · 17/06/2010 10:18

FellatioNelson · 17/06/2010 12:03

Mac is your best bet. They have loads of shades of deep red, and several finished including heavy matt and creamy finishes.

FellatioNelson · 17/06/2010 12:06

crossed posts - sorry!

LittleMissSnowShine · 17/06/2010 12:19

love how you're planning this ensemble for a festival btw - i usually tramp about in leggings, wellies and a vintage dress topped off with sunglasses, hat and a litre of gin

omnishambles · 17/06/2010 13:23

Well its a lovely colour - russian red but I do resemble a tranvestite clown in it - maybe it just needs a bit of getting used to.

It is quite pink on me as well - does it need lots of layers?
