Please help me find a dress

I am desperate for some help.

Have been to EVERY shop in my city, and hound nothing. Feel like I've seen every dress on the Internet, but nothing suits.

I need it by Thursday at the latest, so have 6 days.

It needs to have a tailored waist due to my rather large belly, or at least flatteringly cover my middle. And it needs to be short - mid thigh at most. It needs to be classy, but young as I am only 28. It's for a formal event.

I am so desperate, I really really need help.

I don't know what to do. Please help.

See the dress on my profile, looks better in real life. I got it shortened and wore it to a wedding a couple of weeks ago, I'm pregnant but people said they couldn't tell because dress hid my small bump completely, got loads of complements on it. Got it from plumo.com in their sale section, still about £160 though at half price! Oh, and don't feel you have to be nice about it just because I already bought it, I'm not easily offended .

DSM · 11/06/2010 22:31

Also - for anyone who reads the original thread... I am being less fussy now than I was then due to the desperation.

So, I will consider black and I am willing to wear white as I am forgetting about wearing this dress to the weddings.

Too frou-frou?

DSM · 11/06/2010 22:33

hmmsleep - that is lovely.

Honestly, wouldn't suit me. I have tried on baggy dresses before and I look like a fool. I only seem to suit fitted or tailored clothing.

I need Gok.

If it must be mid - thigh then I wouldn't bother looking at coast, lk bennett , monsoon etc, they will all be too long - your best best imo is FCUK or Reiss.
Oasis also has some eve things taht come up short - have you looked there?

DSM · 11/06/2010 22:34

Too long cranky.. but yes, a bit frou-frou as well

no idea if this has already been linked to

Rindercella · 11/06/2010 22:38

not sure about the colour but structured and short.

DSM · 11/06/2010 22:38

If it helps - I have this, in a different colour, and it is very flattering.

Now that is spooky!

eshermummy · 11/06/2010 22:40

Can you get to the shops? These are sold out online in your size but you might find instore?

one shoulder

pretty print for summer

eshermummy · 11/06/2010 22:42

I really like that first Oasis one

Rindercella · 11/06/2010 22:42

Seriosuly DSM, I think Oasis is the way to go.

DSM · 11/06/2010 22:43

That ivory one is nice...

I could try and get back to the shops this week, but the chances are I won't be able to. I have the whole of next weekend booked off work so I have no days off between now and then. Today was really my last chance to get to the shops. And I went to them all...

Definitely prefer to get something online.

All the Oasis ones I tried on in the last couple of days were no good - too long, mostly, and some were just badly fitting on me.

I am screwed, aren't I?

@ Esher (ooh, I used to live just down the road!)

Right, get emailing the shops then. If you see any design you think would work but they don't have your size, ask. I did that with Ted Baker (and a couple of other shops, can't remember which) and they were all great - either directing me to nearby shops which had the dresses in stock, or letting me know if/when they were getting more in.

eshermummy · 11/06/2010 22:47

bargain (lovely colour) but too big for you prob?

short and high necked some other colours on the site too

DSM · 11/06/2010 22:50

Reiss ones are both lovely!

Will peruse their website for a few minutes.. thank you!

tethersend · 11/06/2010 23:12

That peach reiss one is great...

Sanesometimes1 · 11/06/2010 23:16

Why don't you go with the Karen Millen that you loved and get the lengh altered ?

eshermummy · 11/06/2010 23:19

I was going to suggest the same as sanesometimes - if you find one that you like and that fits well everywhere else than get it shortened - however I would be a bit wary with doing that with the KM one as it has a lot going on up top - ruffles etc , so it might start to look very unbalanced if you took it to mid-thigh?

Tethers - i know, it is gorge, someone who is a size 14 should snap it up at that price

Sanesometimes1 · 11/06/2010 23:27

Just had a thought - what about Jane Norman ? have you tried there ? their dresses are usually very short ? x

CrankyTwanky · 11/06/2010 23:43

If you're 5'5'',you should fit regular length non? Acording to the shops,I mean.
Have you tried petite sections?

CrankyTwanky · 11/06/2010 23:44

too shapeless?
