Does anyone else do that thing of saying "I'll wait until I've lost weight before I buy anything new"?

I say this constantly, and in the meantime I dress awfully. I think I'm getting to the stage where I'm just realising that I'm never going to lose weight, I would have done it a long time ago if it was that important to me. But, that means thinking differently about the way I dress, and I don't know where to start really.

so ... the Oasis dress arrived this morning, very lovely and glad I ordered. sleeves "fit" with no slack like the picture but to be honest wasn't expecting them to be floppy about.

The important thing is it looks really nice, even if I do say so myself. Now! where's that bloody sun? back to jeans and jumper today would you believe??!!

LetThemEatCake · 29/05/2010 18:03

hurrah MissWooWoo great news. Wear it anyway, sod the weather. I believe you can will the sunshine into existence with the power of positive dressing

Who's toothbrush did you unblock the loo with?

I await all your tips- I haven't bought clothes in a loooooong time.

Ladies, today I went to m&s for a bra fitting, and I can't believe the difference it makes. I've been wearing 36b for years, when not preg or bfing) and I was advised to wear 34d today and I swear I look lighter as a result!

PortiaNovmerriment · 29/05/2010 18:10

Nooooooooooo.

That probably means you are a 30G, you know. M&S are rubbish at fitting bras. They do that daft 'add 4 inches' thing.

Theantsgomarching · 29/05/2010 18:18

Really Portia? I was so proud of myself.. and they look and feel good! She didn't measure me she just looked and the one I had on, and went from there. You've totally burst my happy new bra bubble!

PortiaNovmerriment · 29/05/2010 18:25

Sorry

If you like it, and it fits against your ribcage snugly, especially between the boobs, then it will be the right size. But only in M&S.

Theantsgomarching · 29/05/2010 18:41

Actually, now that you mention it, I tried on 2 in la senza and they were no where near right. Bloody hell. Where is good to get fitted then? Don't want all my bra shopping to be limited to m&s

PortiaNovmerriment · 29/05/2010 18:46

The main thing is to be aware of how a well-fitting bra should feel, and try on lots.

There is a good guide here.

Theantsgomarching · 29/05/2010 18:53

Thanks...I knew today had gone too well

PortiaNovmerriment · 29/05/2010 19:03

How is it fitting then?

If it's not right you can take it back, you know.

Theantsgomarching · 29/05/2010 19:08

No, the m&s ones are lovely. I am very happy. Got four. But they had no white ones I liked so I tried on 2 in la senza which were awful! Very badly fitting, but I'd had enough of shopping by then and gave up. I had thought, before you set me straight, that I could pop across to shops in the morning and pick up a couple of white bras, being fairly sure a 34d would fit

dinkystinky · 29/05/2010 19:37

Theants - I think M&S bra sizes are slightly different to different places anyway. FWIW, if you can make it to a Bravissimo they're good for getting your bra fitting right - Rigby & Peller good too (and those fittings generally prove true in other places, other than M&S that is...)

Theantsgomarching · 29/05/2010 19:46

Dinky, I'd feel like a fraud in bravissimo - my boobs are nowhere near big enough! and I'm up north so no chance at rigby and peller. Guess I'll just have to try on. Thanks for the tips though.

PortiaNovmerriment · 29/05/2010 19:53

I took my daughter there, who was a teenager in a 34A, so it doesn't matter what your size is really. She came out a 28D though

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 29/05/2010 20:55

Theants - please don't worry about going to Bravissimo.

I think they were one of the first to sell hammocks bras for the well-endowed, which is why they're mainly associated with that end of the market - but if you've been measured a D already you'll be fine.
As Portia says, you're probably a 32g.

EdgarAllenPoll · 30/05/2010 12:57

July = possible, but diffcult...

if that would make you a 8/0 - i keep on seeing really lovely second hand clothes in 8/10 ...(you know, walk over, touch fabric, like style....read label..realise tis impossible.)

so i actually think size 12/14 is the size to buy decent stuff at retail price. larger sizes and smaller seem abundant on ebay/ charity shops
