hey what is the occasion for the dress not being rude

cornsilkcottagecheese · 23/05/2010 22:37

avoid

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 23/05/2010 22:38

Going to a "Gala Dinner" in Miami.
No idea what to wear! Ideally want something that if I wear it and everybody else is in jeans and a t-shirt, I don't look too dressy, likewise, if everybody is in suits, I dont look too underdressed
Got some ideas from Mumsnet yesterday but have seen this.

I don't like the bow.

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 23/05/2010 22:39

It is nice but there are many nicer ones out there at the moment. The colours could be more summery. So I say avoid.

confusedmummie · 23/05/2010 22:40

oo very nice my opinion would be avoid sorry but truth

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 23/05/2010 22:40

Back to the drawing board then!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 23/05/2010 22:41

No, I want the truth!
Am v nervous re the evening, I won this holiday and am basically going to be sitting on a table with the CEO of the company i work for. So, no drinking, no talking (for fear of making a fool of myself!).

confusedmummie · 23/05/2010 22:42

have you seen the black and white 1 on there?

NoahAndTheWhale · 23/05/2010 22:43

I like it (although would sadly not look good on me due to not enough norkage)

geraldinetheluckygoat · 23/05/2010 22:43

I like the bow! but agree that the colours could be a bit more summery.

honeydragon · 23/05/2010 22:44

I looked at this but my friend put me off (quite rightly) by pointing out "that fabric will crease like a bitch if you're sat down for more than five minutes).

It is lovely though

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 23/05/2010 22:47

Ah, well, I am planning to sit down most of the night. falling over in front of the whole of the senior people is not the rememberance I'm going for!

I'm a size 18/20, so options tend to be limited in terms of lovely dresses.

I do like the colour in that first link though.

this

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 23/05/2010 22:53

That was one I looked at when searching through Debs, I like that one but wasn't sure I could pull it off.
I hate clothes shopping.

OP posts:
confusedmummie · 23/05/2010 22:56

lol i like it too and i hate shoppin too, im not 1 for dresses really she pulls it off lovely in the pic tho lol

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 23/05/2010 22:58

cornsilk - I tend to go for something slightly less fitted than the orange one.
Plus; there is a chance that on the night, no matter how careful I have been, that I'll be slightly sunburnt (given the sun only has to say hello and my factor 50 is beaten!), so not too sure on the colour.

UnseenAcademicalMum · 23/05/2010 22:59

It's nice, though personally I'd be more likely to go for this

confusedmummie · 23/05/2010 23:00

www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/product/details/show.action?pdLpUid=AV755&pdBoUid=9533&lpgUid=11148585#colou r:232,size: maybe too classy

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 23/05/2010 23:02

Unseen - I did like that one when I saw it.

The colour is good too for those of us who burn all too easily (just watch for the strap marks!).

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 23/05/2010 23:08

Have just had a horrible flash back to when I was a kid, no matter what my mum dressed me in, I was either over dressed or under dressed for an ocassion! Turned up at a friends house for a party in a party dress, and they were all in jeans. Rebelled and went to a dance in trousers and everybody was in their party dresses. Gah.
I need to casually as somebody who may be going what they're wearing, without sounding like an idiot!

There is a horrible chance that there may be photographs which are put in some work documents, so need to get it right!
