Fit Flops - any good? Do they look like mad old lady shoes?

Am such a sucker for a gimmick - but do they work? I have never seen any in real life, the flip flops look alright, but the Roma ones and those Gogh ones look a bit like mad old lady shoes and I don't need any help on that front. Any thoughts? Shall I splash out or save my cash? (Am skint so really don't need to be taken for a ride by clever marketing!)

do you have a link please?

I'm a convert. Spent a fortune on a pair of the sheepskin boots for last winter and now have a pair of the Roma sandals (can't wear toe posts). They do look a bit old lady and a little bit lentil weaver, but I don't care. I'm not sure whether they firm up the bum, but they've stopped my back hurting so are well worth the money. I felt my posture improve as soon as I put my first pair on, it felt like I'd just done a pilates class.

KiddingAnxiously · 10/05/2010 15:22

I love my fit flops, I have the black sequin toe post ones.

Not sure about all of the claims, but they are so comfortable, even to the extent that they helped when I was pregnant.

I would have loved to try the winter boots but they were very dear.

RunforFun · 10/05/2010 15:30

I've got the sparkly ones too.

DH looked at me like when he saw I'd spent £50 on plastic shoes.

Who knows if they work but they are really comfy.

The advice is to wear them gently for a bit to get your legs used to the workout.

Frightened me into a thinking my legs would be going into uncontrollable spasms, but in reality that didnt happen. I think its just a gimmick.

A fool and their money ....

bintofbohemia · 10/05/2010 16:19

link!

Hmm...Am not totally convinced yet. But still tempted.

watches with interest....

i think they are ugly and look awful, but if they help tone legs etc i would wear them (but only round the house, school run etc!)

cba · 10/05/2010 21:46

i have a pair but got them for comfort. Very comfortable, do not do any toning. If you want tone one must exercise.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 10/05/2010 22:15

I have Goghs and FitFlops and I love them. The Goghs are ugly, but they are sooo comfortable and sadly I have reached the age where comfort comes first

blametheparents · 10/05/2010 22:19

I love my fit flops, have def helped with my plantar fasciitis (basically, a very sore heel)
Not sure about the workout aspect, but then I run and am at the gym a lot so not sure I would notice a lot of difference.

passmyglassplease · 10/05/2010 22:29

I have tried on the "tone ups" by Sketchers which look very similar to the fit flops and they were really comfortable and at £34.99 a bargain!

and offer the same level of comfort.

accessorizequeen · 10/05/2010 22:50

blametheparents, really interested to hear they helped with your sore heels, I've got the same problems and my osteopath recommended some fitflops. Do you just have the toe post sandals or the roma ones? I can't find the roma sandals in size 9 which I would prefer but would so love my heels not to hurt all day!

I think they will do very little for people who do not train regularly.

If you want good legs and bum, you have to exercise, walking lunges, static lunges and squats a couple of times per week will make a major difference.

superv1xen · 11/05/2010 10:57

oh i train regularly as well. pilates, swimming and recently, pole dancing classes!

blametheparents · 11/05/2010 17:39

accesorizequeen I have the toe post ones. Wore them loads last summer when pain was really bad, now I wear them as slippers around the house to stop the pain coming back. If I am having a bad day with it I slip them on straight away.
Def worked for me, hope they do for you if you decide to get some.

bintofbohemia · 11/05/2010 17:39

Bugger. I do exercise (a bit) but was rather hoping these would be a short cut to a fab arse. I have a pair of Birkenstocks that I lovel and find comfy, so if they're only comfy, I might not bother. And just work out more...

i have the reebok easytones ( dh used to work for them so got the flip flops and trainers) thought they would be a croc of shit and was presently suprised to find that they worked with both my legs and arse.

sockmonkey · 11/05/2010 17:49

passmyglassplease - where did you get the sketchers at that price? have looked around and cheapest I've seen is £60
I walk a lot. and am hoping they will tone up my sausage legs.

passmyglassplease · 13/05/2010 19:53

Thanks passmyglassplease

I have just bought a new pair of fitflops today. They are bronze with lozenges on the front. The wedge is slightly higher and they look better on.But i am normally size 5 and tried on size 4 and they fit!.Also this makes them look far less clumpy. They look like regular wedgie flip flops and they are very flattering on.I nearly died at the price - £50 .

DuffyMoon · 18/05/2010 12:56

I faniced some of these and I found them quite tight widthways (on my fat feet) is it worth trying different styles......I want sequins though.....if you gonna have ugly you may as well have sparkly ugly

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 18/05/2010 14:20

Agree that you'd have to do a lot of walking to get any benefit, it's no good just shuffling round the house in them. Am not convinced that they're very different from normal thick-soled flip-flops (of which I'm very fond anyway). On me the soles feel great, really squashy and shock absorbing. My high instep means the (non stretchy) straps feel a bit tight though.

But lots of people find them very comfy, and I do think you're more inclined to walk to places if you have comfy shoes, so from that point of view I guess they might work to tone you up!

teta · 18/05/2010 14:28

Mine are not ugly!.they are cute on my dainty feet[sadly the only part of me thats dainty!].I think they do tone up your legs slightly and you can feel it on longwalks and going up hills but everyday slopping round the house-no.However i am thrilled that they give me reasonable height and are much more comfortable than my Ipanema wedges and I like looking down at the sparkles.I have cheered myself out of the horrible cold and headache i woke up with at 4am today.

Alouiseg · 18/05/2010 14:46

They definitely work, i'm on my third pair!

I spent 2 weeks wandering around theme parks on holiday wearing them. Every evening dh and dc had sore feet but i had aching thighs and comfy feet.

They actually melt cellulite (on me)
