Has anyone ever dyed their hair blonde, with a home kit, and not looked a twat?

am considering it
roots need doing BADLY but too £££ to go to hairdresser

mate says go for it

I'm not sure

What will happen as "normal" hair (i.e. 1 inch roots ) is a few shades darker than the rest at the mo. will it colour evenly, or will I look dreadful?

LucyKate- highly recommend it! It really is fantastic...even my hairdresser commented the last time she saw me. My hair is a lovely ash blonde now (my natural hair colour is quite dark brown, so it's a bit of an acheivement to get it this blonde!)

Can't wait to see the pics MamaG

lucykate · 09/05/2010 14:02

will do, i have a reputation round here of having ginger hair!, probably because i am pale skinned, freckly with green eyes, and hair dye that goes reddish after just a few washes, anything that keeps it dark blonde will be a plus!

Lovely MamaG! Are you pleased with it?

fatzak · 09/05/2010 14:37

That's really nice. My hair is dreadful at the moment and I really need to colour it. I'm naturally mousey and have been darker brown for last few years but now have a constant baked bean tinge to whatever colour I try

lucykate · 09/05/2010 14:43

that's looking really good, wouldn't know it was a home done job and i can't see any dark roots at all in that pic, well done!

MamaG · 09/05/2010 15:20

merci
am v pleased with it

Avad · 09/05/2010 16:19

Looks lovely MamaG very natural. What shade/brand is that?

So does anyone know if I am safe to use home colourings after using Sun-In?

[hopeful]

MamaG · 09/05/2010 17:16

OP posts:
lucykate · 09/05/2010 17:16

'sun in' is the work of the devil

Avad · 09/05/2010 17:25

I know it's supposed to be but honestly my hair is in good condition and looks fine apart from it not being as effective as it used to be, hence my Q

Avad According to the manufacturers of you can colour the hair after using Sun-In. However, they offer the following advice on the subject:
?We suggest waiting at least 4 weeks after using Sun-In before you add any chemicals to your hair. Always do a test strand and follow product instructions.?
Remember that Sun-In is actually a hair lightening product ? albeit a mild one ? and that the results of lightening the hair are permanent. Because of the nature of the product, it can make the hair more porous and you should always do your best to combat potential damage from styling and further hair colour processes.
You will also want to note that the manufactures don't recommend using Sun-In on colour-treated hair. So, once you colour your hair, you will need to avoid any further use of the Sun-In product.

Avad · 09/05/2010 19:33

Thanks for that SF Never actually thought of looking for their own website for advice

Now would I be able to skip the pre-lightening part does anyone know and go direct to blonde hair colour now?

bluebump · 09/05/2010 19:37

I use this to do my highlights and i'm a quite dark brown naturally but it goes very blonde. I think the strands need to be fairly thin as once we did them thicker to save time and they were a bit yellowy but generally it looks good.

StephysFamous · 09/05/2010 19:41

Depending on the colour your hair is just know Avad you may be able to.
The best thing to do would be to go into Superdrug/Boots etc and just check the boxes, look at the bit on the back that shoes you what colour it will turn out.
I'm not absolutely sure though, not too great with home dyes. Even for doing my own hair I buy from Sally's/Salon Services.

Avad · 09/05/2010 19:42

Aha I have a contact at Sally's never been in there to buy anything though, any recommendations for me?

StephysFamous · 09/05/2010 19:49

Igora Royal 12-1, an ashy blonde high lift tint gives same effect as bleaching but less damaging to hair. Sally's usually have shade charts so you could have a look through to choose what you think looks best. Only look for 11s/12s though as these are the high lifting shades, use with 40vol peroxide and follow instructions thoroughly.
Invest in a good tint brush and measure for best coverage.

But never mind any of that, come into the salon where I wok so I can make obscene amounts of money for my boss I will never see.

Avad · 09/05/2010 19:54

I heart StephysFamous

LadyBlaBlah · 09/05/2010 19:54

I have used Sun In since I was 15 and can confirm it is the work of the devil.

I cannot do anything but grow it out and haven't done that yet. No known hair die on earth will stick when it is on your hair

Looks niceMamaG
