do MBTs and fitflops actually work?

I am a very lazy person , but have to walk the dog daily so i was wondering if MBTs or their equivelents have any effect in 'toning and firming' without gym input.

Anyone tried them?

thanks

Yep, worked for me, even my DH commented (without prompting!)

I walked about half to an hour a day in my MBTs. I wasn't too fat then, size 8-10 but did no exercise so had no definition prior to wearing. Definitely had more tone to my calves, thighs and (to lesser extent) bum.

I'm a huge sceptic about most things so "gimmicks" don't win me over easily.

piratecat · 24/04/2010 22:38

i think that prob mbt's work, i treid a pair on today, but at £175, thought 'nah!@

I have fit flops, and tbh i can't see that thye would make that much difference, but they do make your posture better.

maybe i need to walk more tho!!!

echt · 24/04/2010 23:04

I have MBTs, but haven't built up the walking in them yet, so hard to say.

But I can say something about walking. Just taking the dog out won't make a change unless it's at least an hour each time.

To get body change, you have to walk fast. I do a very brisk hour's walk every other day - this turns out to be about 3 miles and 300yds - over the same streets. you do get a change with this, and without MBTs.

Forgot to say I do have a dog, but he isn't sufficiently disciplined to put up with an hour round the block - too much stopping and sniffing

Him, not me.

i have just recently started wearing my new fitflops and notice my leg muscles sore after a while in them, so they must be doing something...

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 25/04/2010 19:36

I'm not sure, have just got some Fitflops but at the moment they're too uncomfortable to walk far in

What I'm wondering is that any shoes you're not used to wearing make your legs ache a bit, especially if - say - you're used to wearing flats or heels, then wear the opposite. Does that mean that's good for you too?

I've got both - fit flops for summer and MBTs for winter. Fit flops are good - very comfy and excellent for the posture and they do tone up the bum and legs a bit. MBTs are amazing, much better than the fitflops but they're obviously more expensive - they are really good for the posture as you have to stand up tall to balance in them. They are great for toning the bum and legs and they've also helped tone my abs too!!!

superv1xen · 26/04/2010 10:31

i was thinking of getting the reebok "reetone" ones...

iwastooearlytobeayummymummy · 28/04/2010 22:37

like the sound of no knee pain
God , I hate getting old, but suppose better that than the alternative.
Will check out fitflops for this summer
thanks all

I am a total MBT devotee. I do think they 'work' but apart from anything else they are just sooo comfortable it is hard to wear anything else

The sketchers ones look very similar and are also cheaper

Skegness · 28/04/2010 22:44

fitflops definitely don't work. Lived in mine 2 summers running as they are v comfy but no changes whatsoever in tone or firmness, sadly.

drloves8 · 28/04/2010 22:59

mbt`s work - i love mine .They got rid off my lower back pain too .

Mercedes · 28/04/2010 23:05

Do the MTBs have enough arch support? I quite fancy a pair but can't wear shoes that are flat.

drloves8 · 28/04/2010 23:11

they feel just like trainers , its the soles that make you use your muscles more , because theyre sort of curved and squash when you walk. very comfy shoes imo.

notapizzaeater · 28/04/2010 23:18

Have Fitflops (boots and sandals), twas recommended by my Physio after I tore the ligament in my knee and have wore them almost constantly for the last 18 months, just started wearing "normal" shoes and my knee is aching ! Will be ordering my new ones soon.

Bobbalina · 28/05/2010 15:19

MBTs are fantastic for me as I have lower back trouble - just bought some fit flops, am wondering if they will be similar...

gailforce1 · 28/05/2010 16:14

What brand of fit flops does anyone recommend?

inchhighprivateeye · 28/05/2010 18:14

I have the Reebok Easytones, wearing them right now. The good thing about them is they look pretty much like normal trainers, they haven't got the huge built up soles that the MBTs I looked at have. Also they're less pricey, about £70-£80. And very comfy and bouncy to walk on.

Only been wearing them a few days so too early to see if they work, but there's defo something happening, can feel twinges up the back of my legs that weren't there before.

caffeineaddict · 29/05/2010 11:03

do MBT's fit really broad feet? Always fancied them but not sure if they'd fit.

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 29/05/2010 11:45

I have wide feet and MBTs fit me fine. There are different styles though so not sure if all the same.

Fingerbob · 29/05/2010 11:49

MBT's are so ugly I've always avoided them, but now my fat arse and thighs are so bad that my footwear is the least of the problem! Question, do the shoes and sandals by MBT work as well as the trainers?

babster · 29/05/2010 11:55

I've got the Skechers Shape-ups and I can certainly feel my calf muscles when wearing them. Hope it's not just wishful thinking, but the backs of my thighs seem firmer.
