2 years ago EVERYONE had this tunic...

here and I was heavily pregnant but I thought it suited every single person I saw in it so bought a teeny size as an incentive. Two years later it finally fits and I want to wear it, but I have knee issues. I cannot show the backs of my knees, they are stretchmarked to high heaven, though the actual marks are silvery now. So, what do I wear with this? I was adament on another thread that dresses and jeans are a big NOOOOOOO. But here I am contemplating just that. I am a size eight to ten now, having been an 18 since ds was born so it pees me off that I can't just be happy. But back to the question. Do you have this dress? What do you wear with it? I want to get some sandals to make a change from my ever present flip flops so I was considering maybe some gladiators and jeggings? Or should I just feign an injury and bandage my knees for all eternity? Now there's an idea... Am 26 and 5 foot 7 if that helps

If you don't/can't wear it with bear legs I'd wear navy leggings, jeggins, skinny jeans with glads.

princessmel · 11/04/2010 21:35

bare!!

BelleDameSansMerci · 11/04/2010 21:36

It's a lovely, lovely dress/tunic. Maybe, some blue 3/4 length leggings? Not black obviously. I think it would look ok with jeans tbh.

SparklyJules · 11/04/2010 21:37

I have never noticed what the backs of somebody's knees looked like - ever.

If you want to wear it with bare legs, then slap on some fake tan and go for it girl!

justallovertheplace · 11/04/2010 21:37

Like the navy leggings or skinnies suggestion. Are skinnies ok not tucked into boots though? The weather (and the zip on my boots bloody breaking last week) has raised these important questions

Sparklyjules, I guarantee that if I were to bare my knees, you would notice them. You would. I notice it on other people all the time and am torn between admiration and horror that they can show it to be honest.

Do you know - I bet your stretch marks are hardly visible to anyone but you.

But if you do feel uncomfortable (a good glossy moisturiser/fake tan may help) then yeap - leggings or some coloured skinny jeans would look nice.

traceybath · 11/04/2010 21:39

Roll your skinnies up a bit and wear with nice flat gladiators.

princessmel · 11/04/2010 21:42

I wear my skinnys with glads/wedges/flip flops/ballet pumps and converse . Deffo no converse with this tunic though.

RedBlueRed · 11/04/2010 21:43

I would agree with the 'bare option' as you are the only one with a problem with the backs of your knees - noone else will look.

Go on! Dare to bare.

Salbysea · 11/04/2010 21:43

3/4 length navy leggings?

suwoo · 11/04/2010 22:12

Does fake tan cover stretch marks or would it not show them even more? Have you thought about that cover up foundation stuff for scars?

If it covers them, then yes on its own with gladiators.

justallovertheplace · 11/04/2010 22:24

Where can you get the cover up stuff? I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable wearing that though as I'd be sure it would be obvious that I was wearing it
I so wish I could wear above the knee things without worrying, but I just can't. I've spent the last 2 summers hugely fat and the calf length skirts I've gotten used to wearing just seem so frumpy now

OP posts:
suwoo · 11/04/2010 22:28

Think they used to do it on QVC, will google.

Salbysea · 11/04/2010 22:28

what about that spray on tights stuff?
kinda like foundation for legs
you get it in boots (but they don't do a very pale one for me )

justallovertheplace · 11/04/2010 22:29

The thing is though, stretch marks are actually a scar. The skin is literally broken. If they were red I could see a cover up might help. I think polyfilla might be more appropriate now

I had a quick google and can't find it. Off to bed, but if no-one else finds it first I will look again.

RedBlueRed · 12/04/2010 00:43

At a size 8-10 I bet your stretch marks are a barely noticable silver line. Just try it. Ask some honest friends what they think. I bet you will get away with it.

wahwah · 12/04/2010 07:06

Women in Australia have been puzzling the whole stretchmark / fake tan thing. They recommend rubbing in 'bonza bronze' with a sponge. Will go and see what rest of Internet says now!

wahwah · 12/04/2010 07:18

Well the world is divided between those who cover and use San Tropez or Clarins and those who say it doesn't work and to use Bio Oil for a fortnight.

Why not try the fake and have leggings / jeans in reserve? Good luck anyway, it's a really pretty top and I'm sure you'll look lovely however you wear it.

traceybath · 12/04/2010 08:03

Mac do a body foundation that could be worth a go. Also this stuff is meant to be amazing at disguising stretch marks.

But its up to you and what you feel confident/comfortable in.

miche8 · 12/04/2010 08:42

when i'm trying out a new look that i'm not too confident about, i wear it out on short trips to the paper shop, getting petrol, fishnchips etc and when i realise that no one pointed and laughed i'll wear it into town/out for the day. I did this the first time i wore leggings after wearing them only in the house and i now practically live in them.

Well done on the weight lost, i bet no one will be bothered at looking at the backs of your legs, but a little fake tan might help. Think the dress would look best bared legged, but skinny jeans and leggings would be acceptable.

I use bio oil on my tummy it makes the skin feel nice but not sure it does anything once the stretch marks are silver.

fishie · 12/04/2010 08:51

i have seen sally hansen leg foundation stuff recommended. but it too cold for bare legs anyway, get some leggings.

Fliight · 12/04/2010 08:58

Leggings and sandals I think, if you are worried.

I have just realised my knees are larger than I thought...but that will be the half a stone I seem to have put on since last year

loads of stuff doesn't seem to fit any more. Especially summer frocks.

Oh dear.

Fliight · 12/04/2010 09:00

is it possible to be pregnant in a sort of all-over type way rather than in the usual place? If so, that's obviously my excuse.
