Dresses over jeans?

Like them - what do you think of this? Tried it and I think it looked good. But my arms aren't great and what can I wear over it to keep warm?

dress

'As a colleague once said to me, if you are not comfortable wearing a certain outfit in a Church, then it shouldn't be worn anywhere (unless I guess in your own house/bedroom etc).'

Do people seriously think this way??

lucykate · 08/04/2010 23:34

i quite often wear a dress or tunic over jeans (skinny jeans) with a long sleeved t-shirt underneath. layering, it's all the trend these days

pinksmarties · 09/04/2010 01:31

Hi Happy, lovely dress, would be lovely with jeans. Jeggings are the devil's work.

pmsl at justallovertheplace.

Think I'd better take my muttontastic ways off this thread

So wtf do I do now?

As I mentioned yesterday, I went out and bought two other things instead as I went to another shop before Oasis and never got there.

On the one hand, it's a bit much to go back to Oasis and spend AGAIN. On the other hand, almost everyone has rated this dress highly so I am feeling compelled to buy it .

Maybe I'll be able to slot in some shopping when I go out for my day of fun tomorrow . The girls can advise me when I try it on over my jeans with some jeggings.

That dress requires long, slim, toned and preferably tanned legs. And flat shoes - ballet flats or sandals. No jeans.

wubblybubbly · 09/04/2010 13:48

Lovely frock, would look great over jeans, jeggings whatever. Might also look rather lovely with wide leg linen pants to IMO, very summery.

As for denim jackets, well that icon of the fashion world, Top Shop, has stacks of 'em, so I'm guessing they are 'of the moment'.

My DH wouldn't dream of commenting on what I'm wearing, unless it was to say I look gorgeous. I'm old enough to dress myself

upahill · 09/04/2010 14:08

Cyb Not getting why you are having a go at the 'Dh being comfortable' with it comment tbh.

Surely things like this work two ways. For example I see blokes walking about with no shirt on in public places. I find that repulsive. I would not be comfortable if my DH did that. What's the diference?

MerlinsBeard · 09/04/2010 15:19

It needs a denim jacket and either ballet pumps (or similar) or cowboy type boots. EIther with or without leggings/tights (plain)

If you wait, the redirecting thing seems to go away and then eventually it appears....

i like jeans and dresses. and i like that dress

cyb · 09/04/2010 17:17

upahill, not having a go by any stretch of the imagination. And the poster has answered my question.

jobags · 09/04/2010 17:24

I am overly influenced by somebodies advice that you should never wear fashion the second time around. As i am 43 and can remember wearing leggings in the 80s and jeans with dresses in the 90s, I never wear either now, although I see lots of women my age in um. Its all really confusing!(confused)

IngridFletcher · 09/04/2010 17:25

Will only look ok if you are tall. A dress over jeans would make me look like an oompa loompa.

upahill · 09/04/2010 17:41

jobags -- I have heard that advice too. I think it was from Liz Jones from the Mail.

I think you can wear stuff that you remember first time round but make sure it's not too full on and also be select about what you go for. Example - I will never wear a rah rah skirt with a rag as a headband a la Bananrama but I do go for the leggings. However this time without the 'Frankie says....' T shirt!

Bumbleconfusus · 09/04/2010 22:04

Lucky I'm young enough not to really remember that much fashion from the 80's & 90's, glad it means I'm free to wear my loose fit jeans with a nice mini dress.

To the OP - yes, buy the dress anyway, you never know next years fashion might be ick, so stock up now!

GenevieveHawkings · 09/04/2010 22:13

"Genevieve, I'm a practising Christian, but I have taken on acting how a wife of a self-respecting Muslim man should do"

Bumbleconfusus Perhaps you should tell me how the wife of a self-resepcting muslim man should act and dress because my husband likes to consider himself a "self-respecting muslim man". However, he also considers himself to be a man who respects his ) wife's right to be her own person, and to make her own decisions about what she chooses to wear. God job too because I wouldn't fancy seeking his approval about what I wear and he'd probably faint if I did.

Bumbleconfusus · 09/04/2010 22:50

basically it means not looking like a ho, and obeying/submitting to my husband (as taught in Christianity and Islam). And I am happy to do both, and frankly I think I still look nice in the process, so no one loses. Apart from people who don't get the loveliness of jeans under dresses

GenevieveHawkings · 12/04/2010 00:12

"...basically it means not looking like a ho, and obeying/submitting to my husband

Mmm...OK
