Dresses over jeans?

Like them - what do you think of this? Tried it and I think it looked good. But my arms aren't great and what can I wear over it to keep warm?

dress

Pretty dress!

I'd wear a cropped denim jacket on top and lose the jeans but thats probably not what you want to hear. You could then wear leggings underneath though.

Bumbleconfusus · 08/04/2010 08:18

wearing jeans underneath is the only way that DH would be comfortable with me wearing a dress that short, I always think it looks better that way anyways. I would wear a tight long sleeve tshirt underneath the top half, rather than anything over it.

cyb · 08/04/2010 08:20

DH comfortable with it?

chopstheduck · 08/04/2010 08:23

or a bolero cardigan. I think that dress would be lovely over jeans.

Jewelsandgems · 08/04/2010 08:26

It is s lovely dress. I think it would look great over super-skinny jeans or leggings and the long sleeved /t under would look lovely too (as would the little denim jacket over! Or both....for a chilly day

bumble the dress is not that short! And if my DH dared comment on my fashion choices or dress lengths ~sucks in air through teeth~ .....well, we'd not still be married!

chopstheduck · 08/04/2010 08:31

why is it so bad for the dh to comment? I value my dh's opinion in the same way I do my best friends. I don't HAVE to listen to them, but if they were to say somethign was too short or whatever, they would probably be right!

overmydeadbody · 08/04/2010 08:35

Unless they are skinny jeans or jeggings it isn't really the best look.

Unless of course your DH's objections are cultural or religious? The Pakistani and Malaysian girls at school always used to wear dresses over baggy jeans.

crumpette · 08/04/2010 09:15

opaques/leggings better? And then a cardigan or a denim or a leather jacket on top?

I personally can't think of jeans under dresses without recalling the girl band B*witched circa 1998. Nice dress though

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 08/04/2010 09:55

Glad you like the dress - I will go back to shop....

I am old so leggings/jeggings a crime

No DH only XH so I am free of male opinions . (Makes additional note on "list" of reasons why glad DH is XH)

I believe denim jacket is a crime also

But tshirt underneath is within the law I believe (and a good idea)

Thanks all

yes agreed denim jacket is crime, t shirt underneath is a great idea. Lovely dress

traceybath · 08/04/2010 11:06

Denim jacket a crime .

They're quite 'with it' you know

Bumbleconfusus · 08/04/2010 15:39

overmydeadbody - DH is Muslim, therefore no need to cough everybody. Even with jeans a dress like that can show off a nice waist so no need to show the legs. Also I remember watching on one of those fashion programmes that you should choose to have a low cut or a high leg, but not both. As it seems to be quite low cut unless its planned that the top will be buttoned up, it therefore makes sense to wear jeans as to not look too...

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 08/04/2010 17:26

I am to admit that after all of that in the heat of the moment I visited a little boutique I know prior to Oasis and fell for a different dress (which will be worn over jeans - you will be pleased to know it includes a built in tshirt under a floaty dress thing) and a fab tshirt that comes with a necklace to match.

So the Oasis dress not purchased yet (although I will probably pop back there at the weekend).

Sadly no web link for the stuff I bought as a bricks and mortar shop.

I do like denim jackets btw but think I am too old for one and also that my body shape doesn't suit a dress like that with a shortie jacket

Thanks everyone for all of your help

dont liek dress
dont like jeans under dresses

Bumbleconfusus · 08/04/2010 18:44

ifyourhappy that sounds really nice, and saves money and washing if the tshirt is already built in :D

MerlinsBeard · 08/04/2010 19:32

i don't like jeans under dresses. I don't even like jeggings under dresses tbh.

ANd a t- shirt??? Not something i like either.

tethersend · 08/04/2010 20:34

If a dress makes you ask what you need to wear under and over it, it's probably not the right dress.

GenevieveHawkings · 08/04/2010 20:42

Bumbleconfusus are you a muslim too? If you are not then, personally, I would still feel the need to cough about your DH's reservations where what you chose to wear is concerned.

GenevieveHawkings · 08/04/2010 20:44

Oh, and jeans under dresses, unless jeggings or really skinny ones, will look really crap.

Whitetara · 08/04/2010 21:42

Gorgeous dress! I reckon skinny jeans, leggings or my personal current favourite; black footless tights.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 08/04/2010 21:48

and how old is too old for leggings then? - I'd love to wear them but...and I've got calves that are too big anyway. So I guess jeans are the only answer.

Wish I could show you the dress I did get, it's gorgeous. As good as the Oasis one but a bit more unusual.

mitfordsisters · 08/04/2010 22:12

Leggings and ankle boots would be nice with this dress.

Trinny and Susannah would always recommend jeans with dresses and it was very annoying. And plum cardis/ ethnic skirt combos from Monsoon. Ick.

Bumbleconfusus · 08/04/2010 23:07

Genevieve, I'm a practising Christian, but I have taken on acting how a wife of a self-respecting Muslim man should do. And in fact how a practising Christian woman should act. As a colleague once said to me, if you are not comfortable wearing a certain outfit in a Church, then it shouldn't be worn anywhere (unless I guess in your own house/bedroom etc).

Wearing jeans under a dress is not particularly different from wearing jeans under a long top, and often there is only a couple of inches difference between the two.
As the OP stated she wasn't keen on her arms, I too am not keen on my arms but don't necessarily want to hide a beautiful dress under a jacket all the time - plus this can be fairly warm. Therefore a t-shirt underneath is the answer.
