I need help I have no idea what I should be wearing I am 5'2 and size 14/16 and going down. I had ds 2 12 weeks ago and have lost the weight I gained in pregnancy and now need to loose the weight I gained when I comfort ate through various stressful times. It is going slowly.
I have 2 dc, ds 12 weeks and ds 4 next week so needs to be practical. I need to revamp wardrobe as feeling really dowdy and old and fat I can spend some money but not loads but what to buy? What are other mums wearing? Any advice..please

OK, well done on losing that weight so quickly! Someone linked to a US site which put together top ten outfits for moms [sic]. I found it really good and it gave me a bit of a kick up the arse (I had a bad grey waterfall cardigan habit and that's what I kept buying!). Can't find it, but hopefully they'll come back and tell us...

So, basically, I NOW wear:
Skinny jeans or jeggings
Graphic print or embellished t shirt
Cropped denim or chanel-esque jacket or navy blazer
long necklace or bright scarf
ballet flats/converse/short biker boots

I feel so much better, really I do.

shinybaubles · 26/03/2010 13:01

Thanks Moneyspider would love to know what that website is.
I def need some kind of jacket thing, and ballet flats are a good idea I do a lot of walking. Not sure I can wear skinny jeans with my round legs and have no clue what jeggings are .
Can you recommend a good brand for ballet flats comfortable ones?
Any other tips anyone?

Which colours suit you?

Moneyspider · 26/03/2010 13:34

Would you wear something like:

top

jacket

jeggings

scarf

pumps

shinybaubles · 26/03/2010 13:34

Not sure about that either dh thinks warm autumnal colours I am pale olive skinned with dark brown hair and eyes - I know I look terrible in beige.

Moneyspider · 26/03/2010 13:39

We might need some extra help then- I wear cool colours and look terrible in anything warm/autumnal!

shinybaubles · 26/03/2010 13:46

Like the scarf and the shoes, don't think the t shirt and jeggings would do me any favours to be honest, but thanks for trying to help. And if you remember that website I would love to know.

here's the website linked to by Howmanytimes. If you browse the "flop proof outfits" you'll get a few ideas

Maggie00 · 26/03/2010 14:18

I am 5'2" as well. Never wear pumps unless you are at home on your own!

How about these shoes from Clarks

as comfortable as flat shoes but will make you 3 inches taller

shinybaubles · 26/03/2010 15:16

Thanks for the link I love the denim jacket now to find something like that. Very useful link.

Maggie I love the look of them but does he ankle strap not look old? I feel so out of date I am probably totally wrong

Am very happy to wear wedges if anyone has seen any nice ones.

Maggie00 · 26/03/2010 17:22

oh maybe it does look old, i am old! i'm 40 and I like to look tall rather than young I wear navy tops with jeans. It elongates as they say.

SuSylvester · 26/03/2010 17:28

NOT those shoes no way

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 26/03/2010 17:29

I've just bought these - they are incredibly comfy and look great esp with skinny jeans

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 26/03/2010 17:30

I hate the Clarks shoes too I'm afraid

Maggie00 · 26/03/2010 17:30

People would hardly notice the shoes, but being elevated three inches into the air is very slimming when you're size 14 to 16 and only 5'2"!!

lilolilmanchester · 26/03/2010 17:34

These colours might not be your "thing" but I've several of this kind of top (ie vest and flimsy overtop) which I find very flattering

shinybaubles · 26/03/2010 17:43

Love those wedges .
lilo - like the shape of the top not to keen on the pattern, will look for something like that but what do I wear it with jeans I am guessing

OP posts:
lilolilmanchester · 26/03/2010 17:57

I've got several layered tops like that, the shape is very flattering. Dress up with trousers & jewellery, down with jeans, some go with skirts, lots around in various shops.

lilolilmanchester · 26/03/2010 17:59

btw shinybaubles, do try on patterned stuff - I used to avoid it as quite conservative, but actually sometimes patterns help detract from curves and bumps, and I suprised myself by actually liking something other than black or white!

wifyhome · 26/03/2010 18:00

monayspider r u my clone?

shinybaubles · 26/03/2010 18:20

So which shops should I be shopping at I live in Belgium but am coming home for a shortbreak and want to hit the shops, so where should I go that's age appropriate?

OP posts:
Clure · 26/03/2010 18:26

how about this type tunic dress with leggings with biker boots
denim skirt with top possibly like this?
dress with navy tights and navy ballet flats
denim jacket goes with so many outfits

Maggie00 · 26/03/2010 18:31

this might disguise a baby belly

Clure · 26/03/2010 18:31

summer dress with this style of wedge
