tempted, tempted, but cannot justify the price really. The cost of a weekend break somewhere or my car insurance!

Seem very £££ compared to say Longchamp, Osprey etc etc.

Convince me it's worth it?

I have a Porsche and the favourite thing about it is the engine, but I'm a total bike and car nut.

I don't really care about the lustrous, black-leather-clad sports seats...... Oh no. Well, definitely no as they are usually covered in a combination of crumbs from my baby's Nairn cheesy oatcakes....

No.

You are being ripped off if you are silly enough to spend that amount on a bag for goodness sake.

It is disgusting extravagance tbh. Even laptops don't cost that much.

That last post sounded more aggressive than I meant it to, sorry

I am just jealous. Buy one if you can afford it and will love it.

uggmum · 16/03/2010 22:42

I have a Mitzy bag, I love it, I loved buying it.
I emailed Mulberry b4 I bought and asked for a 10% discount. They offered it straight away. Therefore, it was a bargain too.
I have used it every day since I bought it.
I wouldnt buy a fake bag, it wouldnt feel the same.

BelleDameSansMerci · 16/03/2010 22:43

I have two Mulberry Bayswaters and two other Mulberry bags. They are not my favourites but they are fantastic and they do smell heavenly.

If you can hold on for a Mulberry I'd wait until House of Fraser are having a sale. I bought one that I had coveted for months. I'd decided if it was £500, I could have it. It was £750 so I didn't buy it. I eventually got it in the HoF sale for £335. I haven't actually used it yet

Paying a lot for bags is obviously hugely emotive and I don't spend anything like as much as I did pre-baby (and job change) but they are investments really as I am sure that DD will inherit them one day... I'm hopeing, though, that she has bigger feet than I do as I don't want her anywhere near my shoes!

BelleDameSansMerci · 16/03/2010 22:44

I'm also hoping that she will be able to spell hoping...

The other point to note is that if you ever want to sell your bag or get fed up with it then ebay is brimming with folk who are very keen to snap them up. A new oak bayswater costs £595, if you sold it in a couple of years on ebay (assuming bag is kept in excellent condition) you could expect to get £300-£450 provided you sell with receipt and dustbag.

I would say if you wanted to buy an heirloom bag, or something so utterly classic and high end that it would really see you 10-20 years' of usage, you'd be far better off doubling up (or, erm tripling up) and getting a LV or a Chanel. And if you do buy a LV bag (I'm not keen on the pattern but like the etched leather stuff) then buy from Japan as the stuff made for that market has to be done to a higher standard, believe it or not.

And new Mulberry is nowhere near as good as old Mulberry (before it went trendy) and although quite nice, isn't that special, but as noted, does hold its value if you want to ditch it.

Oh, and the shiny brassware really scratches up terribly, so better to stick to the muted or small stuff.

purplepeony · 17/03/2010 14:33

I think that on balance I have been convinced not to spend my money on it!

I am not looking for a name- I just happen to like the styles of some, but cannot really see how they justify their prices.

If I could see a leather bag I liked for around £100 that would be perfect!
