Are Birkenstocks worth the money?

Last year I got a couple of pairs of toe-post flat sandals from Clarks but they were SO comfy and quite trendy and I pretty much wore them every day during the summer months so they are looking a bit tatty now.

Have just been searching and all I can find that is similar is Birkenstocks but they are £40 a pair which is a bit more than I usually pay (my Clarks ones came from a discount store!) but I absolutely loved them and want something similar.

Have been looking at the other styles they have aswell and quite like them - come and help me justify spending money on them

Yes - and get them new and cheaper from shops on ebay!

Mine usually last me years and I wear them about 4-5 days a week throughout the summer.

roosterroo · 13/03/2010 16:54

Mine usually cost about £29 from local shoe shop.

When they start humming, stick them in the freezer for a couple of nights .

BelleDameSansMerci · 13/03/2010 20:17

Sorry but ewwwwwww. Yeuch!

orienteerer · 13/03/2010 20:19

.......in the freezer???

shockers · 13/03/2010 20:26

Mine hurt... the instep is in the wrong place for me.

orienteerer · 13/03/2010 20:29

..........yes, but what's with the freezer for smelly shoes? I need to know more.........

bibbitybobbityhat · 13/03/2010 21:11

Kills the bacteria, innit?

You wrap them in a carrier bag first fgs!

thehillsarealive · 13/03/2010 21:14

bibbity - fab idea, my DH will be flabbergasted! hahaaaaaa

I LOVE my birkies and have 3 pairs of them. They are so comfy and last for ever. Your feet have to get used to them though and 'break' them in gradually, but once they are, oh heaven in a shoe.

went to costco last weekend and they have them in - along with croc shoes

CarGirl · 13/03/2010 21:20

Mine only last a year!!! I'm obviously very heavy on my shoes!

orienteerer · 13/03/2010 21:21

How long in the freezer?

bibbitybobbityhat · 13/03/2010 21:22

48 hours, if you can bear to be parted from your Birkies for so long.

I can't stand flip flops - it means I can see your feet! Eww!

Ceebee74 · 13/03/2010 21:27

shine what style are they as I might be interested? How much do you want for them?

Loving the idea of putting them in the freezer

I got mine from Costco last year and they are well worth the money.
Liking the freezer idea - of course it makes sense!

I have been here for nearly 4 years now - I definitely recognise you (especially from the penguin thread plus your diet threads - love the thread titles!!)
