I am assembling a gift for a friend for a treat to help her through the nightmare first few weeks. So far I've got:

Rations: Champagne

Camouflage: High Beam by Benefit

Uniform: Spanx High-Waist Power Panty

What else should be in?

(maybe High Beam out Touche Eclat in)

What products did you need to survive?

lol tethersend!

nice dressing gown as she'll be living in it for weeks on end night feeds

LadyGooGoo you're a lovely friend

LadyGooGoo · 07/03/2010 21:29

Think because youngest has just reached grand old age of 17 weeks can remember only too well the wide-eyed, sticky up haired, aching minging ness of new babies!

She's on number 3 too so only too aware of need to feel yourself again!

Think more you have, more you refine the look of coping (eg remebering to pick stray cornflakes out of hair before leaving house, not wearing black tops near windy baby)

If she has 2 others a little toy for them or a book might be a nice gesture too?

janeiteisFedUp · 07/03/2010 21:36

Forget the champagne - if she's BFing, it's no good anyway.

BertieBotts · 07/03/2010 21:36

One of those insulated mugs which allows you to have a hot cup of tea no matter how many times you are interrupted.

BertieBotts · 07/03/2010 21:36

You can drink while breastfeeding.

janeiteisFedUp · 07/03/2010 21:38

But some people choose not to. I'm only biased cos I don't like champagne and would rather have other lovely S&B things instead!

LadyGooGoo · 07/03/2010 21:44

That is true...if you are going to have a drink, any old plonk is soothing but radox vs origins....hmmm

Feel like I'm in Come Dine with me or awkward social occasion as host.

A mate of mine got me Laura Mercier bath stuff after I had DS1 - heaven!

Also beauty flash balm is great - and Mama Mio tummy rub is good...

Mothercare sell really handy breast cooling circles you can pop in the fridge and then pop in your bra when your milk comes in which feels like heaven at the time - and is a good deal less stinky than cabbage leaves.

A good dvd set is also good - something mindless you know they like which they can watch during those early day feeding sessions...

LadyGooGoo · 07/03/2010 22:11

Have heard alot about beauty flash balm...what does it do?

Mamma mio (my stretck marks can testify how good that is...forgot about that!)

Basically gives your skin a lovely bright look - which is handy when you havent slept for a few nights. First discovered it in the run up to my wedding a loooooooong time ago when I was averaging 4 hours a night sleep thanks to hellish time to work and is now my failsafe remedy for when looking rough as all hell. Clarins make it and give it a posh french name - but it is really brilliant.

displayuntilbestbefore · 07/03/2010 22:16

God, no, don't get her Lansinoh - she can get it free on prescription if she's only just had the baby whereas it'll cost you almost a tenner to buy it for her.
That money could be better spent on Origins leg lift

displayuntilbestbefore · 07/03/2010 22:17

LadyGooGoo - your Come Dine with Me vision could be a brainwave as your friend would probably really relish you arriving at her house with a 3 course meal if she's having a tough first few weeks.

LadyGooGoo · 07/03/2010 22:20

Bollocks! Never knew about Lanisoh on prescription...GPs kept that quiet.

Sounds like Beauty Flash Balm should be on prescription....taht's got to make it into postpartum bootcamp

Arnica tablets for healing and arnica bath oil from Neals Yard.
Agree about big soft scarf and DVD set.
Also rich hand cream, there is always lots of nappy changing with a newborn and your hands get very dry...

LadyGooGoo · 07/03/2010 22:21

bright nail polish for her toes - your feet can still be lovely no matter what the ravages of baby!

lip balm?

I have done similar for a couple of my friends and put in lots of yummy M&S treats like posh nuts and dried fruit/chocs/biscuits/percy pig sweets + champagne, nail polish, lip balm, body butter, bath stuff etc. And to my poor friend who was stuck in hosp for ages after a very nasty difficult time a new dressing gown/nightie/slippers - she was very happy

redshoesnoknickers · 07/03/2010 22:36

I always put a half size champagne in - after all it's not to share and she will prob be hammered after one glass if she's been abstaining for 9 mths!

LadyGooGoo · 07/03/2010 22:44

haha!

Yep, the wonders of pregnancy, tolerance of a 10 year old
