Does anyone else still wear a bikini?

minxofmancunia · 24/02/2010 19:14

I'm 35, size 10 32E boobs, small hips bit of a falbby belly that I'm trying to blitz and on holiday I always wear a bikini.

However I noticed last year on holiday at a group of family friendly gites I was the only one! And I was 6 months pg! All the other Mums were wearing sport style one pieces, I do at the gym or taking dcs swimming but not on holiday??! Am I a floozy for still wearing a bikini?

Also friend looked horrified when i suggested shopping for one saying her bikini days were long gone, she's 35 too, 2 dcs and from what i can see apart from being considerably shorter than me a size 8-10 too!

I wil; have to do some belly reduction/toning before I bare all this summer but does it make me wierd to still want to wear one?

yanbu

I do too

MrsPixie · 24/02/2010 19:28

I personally think Bikinis are for the young and slim, this is just my opinion I don't mean to offend anyone. I wear a Tankini and I am 6ft size 10.

When I am on a beach and I see beautiful young girls in tiny little bikinis I think yes that is really who they are designed for....

cyb · 24/02/2010 19:29

I wore a bikini for the first time last summer since I was about 5. I felt ok, and once I saw a few of the other women on the beach I felt even better. they are more flattering than swim suits and def more flatering than a tankini

pagwatch · 24/02/2010 19:32

I am 48, size 10 and wear a bikini. I have a flat and wrinkle free stomach. In fact my torso is very slim and smooth so why should I not show it off.

My arse on the other hand is like a small county.

ADifferentMe · 24/02/2010 19:35

47, size 12, 32F which means most people don't notice my tummy, but this is the first year I won't be wearing one (don't worry, I will wear something else instead ), skin tone all over has suddenly gone to pot, the backs of my legs look like Austrian blinds

DorotheaPlenticlew · 24/02/2010 19:44

I think it really really depends on what kind of shape you're in; I don't think you have to chuck yours out because you're 35.

Having said that I am 35 and dread any swimwear situation -- not so worried about my stomach (though maybe I will be after this 2nd baby is out) as my horrid, horrid thighs.

TweedyneeCole · 24/02/2010 19:47

I think my bikini days might be over. I just don't see the point. I feel self conscious and my stomach doesn't tan anyway - in fact, I don't tan full stop!

I say more power to anyone who feels happy in one, though.

JeMeSouviens · 24/02/2010 19:47

I'm 36, have some faint stretchmarks on lower belly and wear one. But only around people I don't know.

my mum is 44 and is going to greece soon, shes got 2 bikinis.

im 25 and wouldn't dream of it

noddyholder · 24/02/2010 19:55

I do but look terrible

tw888 · 24/02/2010 20:01

I do. My mum does too. Bikinis are comfy

MrsPixie · 24/02/2010 20:04

Strechmarks and a bikini do not mix. There is something v elegant about a one piece I think, once past a certain age.

minxofmancunia · 24/02/2010 20:05

of those with a flat smooth tummy!

I have a picture stuck to the fridge of the 29 year old me, pre dcs, in a bikini whilst on holiday in the South of France. It serves as a reminder of what i want to get back to and to put the brakes on when delving into the fridge!

Are your amazing tummies down to luck, gentics, or hard work? I used to have one and I want it back! Please tell me how...

Most people on the beach do not care what other people on the beach look like. I saw this on my holiday. I cannot remember what anyone else wore, nor did I care. I would hope no one cared about me either

I think I'm repeating myself

does anyone care?

traceybath · 24/02/2010 20:08

I think a well fitting bikini is often more flattering than a tankini.

I'm 38 and will be wearing a bikini.

MayorNaze · 24/02/2010 20:08

i wear a bikini. so does my mum, she is 51. i love the beach as there are always, always people who will look much worse than you do, but equally, loads of people who look better.

we are all people, it is only flesh

minxofmancunia · 24/02/2010 20:08

My tummy is really my bugbear, I have long legs, decent boobs (not too big or small), small bum and thin arms, just a horrible nasty flab tum (although not big) and side bits.

What exercises actually work to remedy this?

MayorNaze · 24/02/2010 20:09

how to get a flat stomach - any davina dvd with an abs workout

Remotew · 24/02/2010 20:10

Another one 48 and still wear one. How can you get a tan otherwise. I wouldn't want to have a tan everywhere and a white tummy.

OhFuck · 24/02/2010 20:10

If you want to wear a bikini then wear one. As an undulating size 18 I'd never dream of it but if I felt like I was happy in one, then I'd wear it with pride.

noddyholder · 24/02/2010 20:11

No stretch marks but do have scars which ds and dp call my battle wounds.I think the hoist up effect of a bikini is good. You are not on the catwalk it is the beach.Just as everyone even old wrinklies wear bras and knickers so anyone can wear a bikini,I love seeing old wrinkly european women wearing them with gold blinging it up on the beach THAT is living unapologetically and we should learn from them

SuSylvester · 24/02/2010 20:12

yes
i eel quite strongly about htis
if only YOUNG THIN WOMEn under 25 cna wear them, that is about1% of the population

wear em
who cares

Megletwantsittobesummer · 24/02/2010 20:14

I probably will this summer, but it depends on the Cornish weather. But it will be my first bikini wearing chance in 4 years (been pg or not quite in shape since then).

pagwatch · 24/02/2010 20:16

minx
I don't work out so I guess it is luck or genes.
It is funny that a part of me that remains hidden most ofthe year is one of my best features
I can't wear swimsuits - they all look shit on me - and I have actually tried.

I will hold that thought as I try to come to terms with being older than disenchanteds mum
