Help me find my Boden outfit!

Bumperlicious · 23/02/2010 20:54

I'm very chuffed to be going to the MN party but now having complete style palpations and need some help. Have never worn Boden before. The prize is dress or equivalent, but it is unclear what 'equivalent' means. I need some options. My details

Age: 28
Size and shape: generous size 12, pear shaped, smaller up top, smallish waist, though complicated by being 10 weeks pg with no.2 two and stating to become rotund around the tummy
Height: 5'2"
Colouring: mid brown eyes and hair, fair but yellow toned skin
Preferences: well if I am going to have an expensive outfit I want to be able to get some wear out of it so should accommodate a burgeoning tummy. I don't iron so no linen, else I will wear it once and it will sit in my laundry basket till the end of time.

If any of the other winners are around can they tell me what they have picked, I don't want to wear the same thing!

Please help

This dress looks like it could accomodate a bump.

choosyfloosy · 23/02/2010 21:27

what do you feel about the purple version of the animal spot dress, bump?

traceybath · 23/02/2010 21:32

I wore last year's version of this all through my pregnancy last summer.

No ironing - you just tie it in a know when it comes out of the machine.

Bumperlicious · 23/02/2010 21:35

Thanks both! I'm not sure I like any of the patterns of the jersey dress dexter.

Choosy, I hadn't even looked at that dress as I saw cotton and though 'iron'! But I like all of those patterns, especially the animal print one

Other contenders are:

This in blue or brown spot
This in purple
or the silk one which sounds nicer than it looks

I too asked about maximum price choosy

Oh, and did I mention the wrap, although at this stage I just look a bit pot bellied in a wrap dress...

choosyfloosy · 23/02/2010 21:39

did you get an answer bump?? i haven't had one yet

am still umming and ahhing

would agree with you about the 'Twiggy' dress, i love the colours but not sure about the shape - i think you could do better by the sound of it

choosyfloosy · 23/02/2010 21:40

love that wrap dress

tbh i think wraps look nice on proper pregnant bumps (as opposed to Christopher Biggins egg like me)

Bumperlicious · 23/02/2010 21:47

I wonder if it is a bit to beachy for a parrtteee tracey?

The cotton dress gets v good reviews, except for length, some people are saying it is too long which makes them look frumpy. I do like it though, really like the black and white one, but don't really want to be 'the one who looked like a dalmation', tempted though.

You are right about wrap dresses, I wore mine till the end of my last pregnancy, but atm I just look a bit thick around the middle.

traceybath · 23/02/2010 21:57

They've made it look very beachy in that photo.

However I wore the white one to a christening last year with a coral coloured cashmere cropped cardigan and it looked nice. Well as nice as I could look at 8 months pregnant.

But it is very summery - when's the party?

Or how about this with chocolate brown opaques and heels or boots.

PCPlumIsMyHomeboy · 23/02/2010 22:28

I know you said no linen, but this is lovely. Could wear it with navy leggings, or skinny jeans

vezzie · 23/02/2010 22:30

Hello! I am struggling to choose too.
I was thinking about getting the easygoing silk dress in green, or the pretty cotton dress in pink - but I can't decide how those shapes will sit because the models are so skinny I don't know what will happen on my unskinny frame. I am a bit concerned about all the high waists I suppose.
Does anyone know if Boden size big or small?

choosyfloosy · 23/02/2010 22:53

vezzie, bump, i'm really sorry but i think i am going to go for the 'pretty cotton dress' in the black spot print. sorry to jump the gun on you but i have a pair of shoes I can imagine wearing with it, and that's pretty much my criterion!

best of luck choosy x

mrspink27 · 23/02/2010 23:31

Have seen the wrap dress in the flesh and it is lovely.

Bumperlicious · 24/02/2010 07:08

Good choice choosy! Think I am going to go for the Favourite Jersey dress, but the question is do I go for blue spotty which I think is my favourite or brown spotty which DH prefers. And then how the heck do I dress it up for a party?

Oh and sizing anyone?

OP posts:
vezzie · 24/02/2010 07:34

Me too with the sizing...! I can't tell at all from the photos, I can't decide at all whether I need to be generous to allow for my bf-ing bust or whether these are the kind of dresses where you easily overshoot and have saggy sliding-around shoulders and shapeless waist. Also, I am a short-arse which is tricky with dresses you haven't tried on. Any ideas anyone?

choosy floosy, don't worry about the pretty cotton dress! I won't have that one, but does it really matter if two of us get the same if a. it is a different print and b. it is only one night? I will steer clear of others' stated preferences if you all would like but actually I don't mind if someone gets the same as me.

In case we are all aiming to get something different then: I think I will either go for the silk "twiggy" dress in green, or Amalfi in pink. I think.

ApplesinmyPocket · 24/02/2010 08:22

Hello Bumper, Choosy, Vezzie and any other party-goers trying to choose their Boden!

I chose this one - in Pink though on the picture it looks Red in the picture. I would have had the blue but it wasn't in stock in my size so I hope the colour is ... OK, hmmm. I know what you mean about the pattern, Bump, but I liked it better than some.

I'm older than you lot (50) and not at all beautiful and haven't a clue what to do with my hair. I do have nice shoes though.

As for the size, MP said in another topic that they come up biggish I think. The measurements including under-bust are on the site. I think a 14 might be a bit big on me if they size generously but I went for that as didn't want to look like a sausage bursting at the seams.

Price: well the email just said 'choose your item' so I presumed any one item would be ok or they would have put a limit on it.

I may not be lovely from the neck up or possibly even from the knee up depending on colour/shape/fit of dress but I do have some nice shoes I've been waiting for a chance to wear (so when we meet, train your eyes on my FEET and don't look up.) The shoes, though, depend on the colour of the dress when I see it.. (and I can't walk far in them) have just ordered some pink tights in two different shades to choose from, though my trendy DD tells me pink tights are definitely a No and look like dolls' legs - but my usual black ones would look so wrong with the shoes.

Good luck everyone - and in a way being given a smallish range of clothes from one supplier to choose from does mean the pressure's off a bit - otherwise I wouldn't have known where to start!

Looking forward to meeting all of you.

ApplesinmyPocket · 24/02/2010 08:31

Repeated myself a bit in that post owing to over-excitement! I don't mind if anyone turns up in the same as me by the way.

As for allowance, if you wanted skirt/trousers and top I'm guessing that would be ok as long as both items came to about the same price overall as the dresses?

vezzie · 24/02/2010 09:50

Bumperlicious - if you are going for favourite jersey dress, does that mean I can have the twiggy silk dress? Please say if this will ruin your night as I am about to email!
(although I am not at all twiggy so wondering how it will look on me)

ruby - I feel the same way.

What are you looking at / thinking of? What colouring / shape are you and what do you usually wear?

vezzie · 24/02/2010 11:24

Ruby - well if you are size 10 / 12 you can wear anything you like and look great! Some of the dresses don't have loud patterns and are available in single colours - like the linen dress for instance?

I have totally changed my mind and am now looking at the embellished sateen dress in taupe.

thedollshouse · 24/02/2010 11:27

Do you really have to be dressed head to toe in Boden? At 28 you have another 20 years before you should be thinking of venturing into Johnnies kingdom.
