Best hand cream for really dry skin

I've been asked by my mum to post here to find out all your hand cream recommendations! She has incredibly dry skin on her hand, and a touch of exzema (won't take my advice to go to the docs, although she has tried my ds's doublebase cream and it's not done much good.

What would be the best handcream to get? And are there any other tips (other than cotton gloves) to help? TIA

DEF Nutrogena

Bonsoir · 24/02/2010 22:44

Xerand by La Roche Posay

I'm a convert to Aveeno. My DD used emulsifying cream from the doctor for ages but didn't ever really seem to do the job. But Aveeno has worked in a few days. I'd happily do an advert for it - it's fab!

I like S&G Hand Food or Burts Bees Hand Salve. The BB one is quite greasy so an overnight one and works like a dream.

Marne · 25/02/2010 16:30

Another vote for Nutrogena.

keineahnung · 25/02/2010 16:34

I'd second aqueous cream - dirt cheap and very effective

Cynch · 26/07/2012 12:51

I'd recommend Dermasalve, nourishing, works and non sticky after!

Aveda, Clarins (the original not the lotion one) or Dr Hauschkna work best on my frazzled/eczema hands. Haven't tried the Aveeno but may do when my current crop of hand creams have run out.

I have very dry hands and swear by Burt`s Bees hand cream..lovely stuff works a treat!

Aqueous cream is for washing only. Don't use it as a cream.
Gloves in a bottle is good. Put it on under and/or over hand cream.
Neutrogena is fantastic.
Gloves to wash up. Warm gloves when out on cold days.

Try looking up some of the website of natural products - purenuffstuff heavenly hands is really lovely and very softening - i'n not working for them, but as someone who has v dry hands and sensitive skin generally i think that some of the chemicals in creams can actually DRY and irritate the skin - this is why i prefer natural/organic products

Internationaltraveller · 22/02/2013 14:31

I have heard great things about Cetaphil. I currently use Aveeno, Flexitol and Bodyshop hemp lotion. Think she may need a prescribed product to get her over the patch stage of the eczema.

MadameOvary · 22/02/2013 14:44

The Aveda stuff is called Hand Relief. It's bloody good. I like This Works too, they both sink in like a dream.

Flexitol (they of the foot balm) now make a less thick and stinky dry skin balm. It's great to put on and leave overnight.

I just blather with oilatum during the day, as anything scented just makes my hands worse.

starjules · 22/04/2013 21:32

All Aveeno is on offer in Superdrug at the moment I bought some in there yesterday with the whole range £2.00 off.

Gertiegoolash · 23/04/2013 20:56

Burts Bees milk and almond hand cream has sorted out my very dry, old lady hands. Smells very strongly of marzipan though ( which I personally dont mind)

IV Riders do a fantastic hypoallergenic hand cream and soap. Its the only thing that works for me and I've tried tonnes! I have ezcema and allergies and most things are rubbish but this one banishes the crusty hands!

dontyouwantmebaby · 21/05/2013 10:53

another vote for body shop hemp cream, its AMAZING, sinks in really well & not greasy.

clarins hand & nail treatment is good too, its £££ but v. long lasting.

prettymel · 31/07/2014 10:49

There are many ways to hydrate you dry skin. Use gloves when washing the dishes or doing your laundry, harsh soaps may damage your skin. Use mild soap when bathing and apply lotion every day. You can also put natural oils to hydrate your skin.

hollyisalovelyname · 31/07/2014 11:16

Soap and Glory foot cream.
Neutrogena foot cream.
I have tried everything else... many of the recommended ones here- but they don't come close.
I am using Burt's Bees foot cream at the moment on my hands but will not rebuy- it is disgustingly greasy.... and it was expensive.

storynanny2 · 31/07/2014 14:26

another vote for the norwegian neutrogena. I use the concentrated stuff that is supposed to be for dry legs and feet. It is brilliant on my dry hands.
