Need foundation. HELP (please.)

Hello, I desperately need to buy a good foundation for (probably) every-day use. I have wasted so much money on these things as I think they look okay and then decide my face looks a funny colour and never wear them again!
Can anyone recommend one for pale(ish) skin, matt, goes on easily and doesn't make me orange?
Please.
Thank you.

Maybelline Liquid Minerals.

AnnieAlcoholLeft · 21/02/2010 12:45

I'm no expert, but I use the Bare Mineral mineral stuff. Started off with this the light one, I find it great (pale, freckly me)
Definitely not orange, it really blends with your own skintone. And once you get the hang of it, it only takes minutes!

Thanks cocolepew

Thanks Annie (love the name!) I'll definitely try both the suggestions.
Any more?

I'm really getting on well with L'Oreal true/perfect match... looks great and I just try and ignore the whole animal testing thing.

Nivea?

Batteryhuman · 21/02/2010 13:02

I've been to Laura Mercier and still managed to walk away with something I ended up not liking. I do like Bobbi Brown so I will try them the next time I can get there.
Thanks for all the tips.

Clarins Instant Smooth. Will never use anything else no, not ever, never again (and I'm so pale they call me mozzarella face)

DorotheaPlenticlew · 21/02/2010 13:21

Bobbi Brown Skin foundation is great. It's expensive but I have decided I can live with that as it is one of the few that doesn't look too orange or too pink on me.

It is not just about the paleness but the actual colour, IME. So many ranges have a really limited range of pale tones which totally fail to match a lot of people's skin.

cornsilk · 21/02/2010 13:23

chanel vitalumiere - get samples from the chanel counter

parachutes · 21/02/2010 13:29

Bucharet am googling that now.

DorothaPenticlew: completely agree re colour. I have tried everything and there always seems to be a yellow or pink tint to them.

I loved Maybelline's Dream Creamy foundation and it looked lovely, but still had a slightly yellowish tint to it. I will find the right one if it kills me

ooh yes - agree with dorothea that the Bobbi Brown Skin is great.
The colour range is fab, especially on my very pale but pinky skin.

I wanted to try vitalumiere, but could see without even trying that all the colours were too dark or too olivey.

Also the Bobbi Brown lady was not orange, actually tested the colours on my face before helping me to decide . the other makeup counter ladies were squirting a single shade of orange stuff on the back of my hand and going "that'll do" .

parachutes · 21/02/2010 13:36

That's me: Pale but pinky! Okay, off to Bobbi Brown I go.
Thank you

Another vote for Bobbi Brown, is great.

mablemurple · 21/02/2010 13:54

Yet another vote for Bobbi Brown.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 21/02/2010 14:05

Bobbi Brown salespeople are always happy to give you a tiny amount in a sample pot to try at home if you ask nicely, and that helps to be sure as well.

I did try Vitalumiere after all the recommendations on MN but like Martha, found the colour range too dark for me.

cocolepew · 21/02/2010 14:22

What shade did you use in the Maybelline Dream Creamy? I'd like a yellow tinged one. Ta.

Badpups · 21/02/2010 14:33

Have you tried Revlon?

I've tried loads of foundations from cheap to very very expensive and they all either turn orange as my face gets more oily (especially the mineral ones) or my face looks shiny after 30 minutes or they've stopped making it when I try to buy it again.

I've been using Revlon's Colorstay for the last 3 months or so and it's the best that I've come across and also one of the cheaper ranges. I'm very pale and don't even use the lightest colour in the range. It seems to stay the same colour and I don't need to add powder. The only downside is that it only has an SPF of 6.

Rumpel · 21/02/2010 14:35

I use Max Factor 100 porcelain for cheapie and Chanel SPF 25 for summer days/sunny days.

Both are a good match for my uber pale skin and the Chanel is great because of the sun protection. Both are matt finish.
I tried mineral foundation but didn't like the texture on my skin (combination skin).
Mineral eyeshadow is fab though.

Like you I've tried loads - including clinique but found them all to be orangey on my skin. Although I am thinkin of trying maybelline dreamy creamy whne my MF is finished this time as I tried the lightest one and it seems oka nd it has great write ups.

Sparkletastic · 21/02/2010 14:38

ANOTHER vote for Bobbi Brown - the stick foundation is fab, lasts for ages and blends like a dream.

chardom · 21/02/2010 14:51

Laura Gellar balance-n-brighten is fab as it is very easy to apply and looks very natural. Also comes in two shades fair and regular. Has a few different shades in which you swirl together on your brush and the best thing is, its idiot proof which is great for me and also great if you're applying it as you run out the door. Never looks orange or chalky either and doesn't feel heavy on your skin.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 21/02/2010 14:51

I used to use the Colourstay concealer that is part of the same range Badpups recommends -- found it good as well.

deaddei · 21/02/2010 14:53

I'm on my 2nd bottle of Vitalumiere, but it doesn't seem to be working for me at the moment. Maybe my skin's changing.
