AIBU to consider Crocs ballet flats for the summer?

MrsBadger · 15/02/2010 16:11

all my summer footwear is knackered and I have developed plantar fasciitis
The three bases I thought I needed covered were
a) casual sandals/flipflops
b) something for wetter days
c) somethign for being slightly more active (eg cycling) but without socks, perhaps something canvas

have bought fbaulously comfortable birkies to cover point a, but it strikes me that b & c might eb well served by a pair of Crocs Primas thus in brown.

Am I horribly deluded? will people point and laugh in the street?

oh Mrs B

Please don't.

[shattered illusions]

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 15/02/2010 16:13

They are galoshes Mrs B. Sorry. Gotta be flipflops or proper shoes I am afraid.

Hows the cub?

vesela · 15/02/2010 16:30

I haven't seen what those look like on, but I wear Mary Jane crocs in summer and they look good (according to me, anyway).

vesela · 15/02/2010 16:31

and they're mango coloured. Perfect with my black, brown, white and grey summer wardrobe .

MrsBadger · 15/02/2010 18:08

[sigh]
thought as much
back to sq 1

new cub is fine but 2yo has chickenpox, so wrangling both is a laugh and a half

hence need for shoe shopping...

May I suggest (whispers) Ecco shoes as an alternative? I had various problems with my feet last year and bought a pair of Ecco "retro" trainers (dk brown leather) and they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn - and they don't look bad either. Certainly no-one falling to the ground in stitches so far anyway.

Maybe this for your "active" shoe www.ecco-shoes.co.uk/shop/womens-shoes/motion.php and these for b? www.ecco-shoes.co.uk/shop/womens-shoes/jane.php

DH also has toe/feet/back issues and I dragged him along to get some shoes and sandals from there last summer. MY life has been transformed as no longer do I have to put up with him sighing loudly and getting grumpy because of a sore back when we're out and about. HTH

MadameCastafiore · 16/02/2010 09:08

Why would you want to put your feet inside plastic shoes in the summer?

I can see months of horrid sweaty sowllen feet with horrid fungal diseases from sittingin aforementioned pools of sweat insode your shoes!!!

Plus they are a crime against fashion - really really ugly things.

LoveMyGirls · 16/02/2010 09:09

Sketchers are the only way imo

MmeLindt · 16/02/2010 09:12

Sorry to say that the Crocs ballerinas are too flat. I have plantar thingumy too and my feet hurt most when wearing really flat shoes.

I have not really found the ideal solution, have got converse but they are again too flat.

You need something with either a raised foot bed (like your birkies) or a slight heel.

noddyholder · 16/02/2010 09:13

They are sooooooo good for your feet and what you think of how they look is sometimes irrelevant when you are in pain. They are quite plain can't see why so many are offended!maybe get a pair to wear when you feel you need them.

vesela · 16/02/2010 09:35

My feet don't get sweaty inside the Mary Janes (although the holes might make a difference) whereas they have done in some other summer shoes.

Dorothyredboots · 16/02/2010 09:42

Those crocs are the work of the devil! They don't look too bad but they rubbed the back of my heels raw in about two seconds and they were very sweaty and slippery to wear. Ghastly. Don't do it.

Cyb · 16/02/2010 09:49

Mrs badger get your fllen arches sorted then your shoe choices won;t be dictated by your foot pain

i got rid of my plantar with studious use of arch supports

Agree with Cyb, have been using these orthaheels this used to be Scholl, bought in Boots
for several years, no more back/leg/feet pain, have transformed my life.

They can't go in sandals though, but you can get a range of sandals/mules etc with the raised foot arches which help a lot for the summer (not many sandals on website at this time of year though). Personally I love clogs/mules for spring/summer/autumn for the days when I don't want sandals.

Cyb · 16/02/2010 13:09

MmeLindt I went to Boots and paid about £20 for a pair, don't know make, but by jingo they sorted me out. I wore them indoors in my fugly shoes.

it was fake Birkenstocks that gave me the fallen arches in the first place....

piratecat · 16/02/2010 13:10

I have PF too. last year i bought fit flops, they were great. still look in great condition for this summer too, seeing as normal flip flops are out of the question painwise.

I also bouth arch support insoles for my bots over the winter, and my feel have slowly improved. I got one pai fromthe Scholl shop, they were something like £40 down to £20, which is price but it must have helped. I also got another pair form an independant footcare shop, they were about £12 and have doen the same job.

You can buy the supprts, in a 3/3 length whioch is really handy for putting into varios types of shoe/trainer or boot.

Those Crocs primas look like they would be excruciating to wear with PFm there isn't much supprt, and you shoudln't wear anything with such a low flat sole.

Cyb · 16/02/2010 13:11

I think normal crocs helped my feet too. i wore them (indoors) all last summer and pottering around in garden. No pain whatsoeverrrr

piratecat · 16/02/2010 13:12

sorry about all my typos.

i also meant, that the 3/4 length insoles are handy.

cocolepew · 16/02/2010 13:13

Plantar thingy suffers I give you ....da da da da daaa... Birkinstocks. They are the only thing that has cured me.

Sandals in the summer and Converse with Birkinstock insoles the rest of the time.

No need to thank me [modest].

Cyb · 16/02/2010 13:17

they wrecked me! All that hanging on with your toes to stop them flying off, not good

cocolepew · 16/02/2010 13:18

Real Birkies not the fake ones.
