Have been dragged in there by DD. Cards are hurting in consequence.

I have reached my own conclusions on this shop but I want to know what knowledgeable mners think of it.

my 15yr old dd has dragged me in there before but rather surprisingly we came out with nothing because she decided it was too expensive - unprompted from me even though I drew the same conclusion pretty quickly. unfortunately the money she saved me by not buying anything there was claimed for clothing expenses anyway - but at least she has a wardrobe full of topshop/H&M etc rather than 2 T shirts and a hoodie.

Bonsoir - I like to see boys/teens in proper shirts. If the shirt is of decent quality, they look rather nice crumpled/unironed.

I am a great ironer of everyuthing and sometimes I have to force myself not to iron a boy's shirt, depending on what they are wearing it with.

Bonsoir · 08/02/2010 20:30

Well, with unironed ripped jeans and an unironed t-shirt underneath, I think that an ironed shirt looks better! I don't mind crumpled, just not crumpled all over. And I send shirts out for ironing, so the hassle factor is minute .

But the real deal is the proper shirt-sleeves-collar, I agree!

Swedey · 08/02/2010 20:41

Bonsoir - I think we agree. My boys only really wear proper shirts to smart things, so the crumpled shirt is a nice juxtaposition to crispness of trousers or smart long shorts if summer.

Crisply ironed shirt + crips trousers can look a bit pageboy at a tinker's wedding.

Although DS1 is now 18 and can't really get away with too much crumpling any more. DS2 (14) carries it off v well, esp with good quality, long shorts. And DS3 looks dreamy in his pink seersucker crumpled shirt with long navy shorts and navy tights underneath. And v good quality bright white well-laundered t-shirts underneath the shirts.

DSS2 is so enamoured of his A&F checked shirts that he'll even wear them for a non-event weekend (not to school, though!).

When I think of all the arguments negotiations we used to have to get them to even try on a shirt in a shop, let alone wear it once it was paid for... oh well, long may it last.

We now have to insist upon negotiate a visit to the hairdresser, pre school interviews.

Boys!!!

traceybath · 08/02/2010 20:55

Oh swedey - your talk of bright whites and ironing has made me come over all unnecessary.

I was honestly beginning to feel like a freak on mn as not only do I iron but I do so whilst wearing make up

Granted my ds's are little (5 and 2) but love to see them in proper shirts. In fact ds2 will be sporting his tulip and nettle checked shirt tomorrow.

Swedey · 08/02/2010 21:07

Traceybath - You are a woman after my own heart. I buy most of DS3's stuff from Tulip & Nettle. [not even ashamed] In fact I'll stick some photos of him in sailor top and light blue cord jacket and matching breeches. DD looks terrible in their stuff.

wolfnipplechips · 08/02/2010 21:14

Swedey, i'm married to the grown up version of your son.

MaineGirl · 08/02/2010 21:14

my 18 yr old cousin loves jack wills and so does her 13 yr old sister, they are both privatley educated floppy hair, skinny jeasn ballet pumps, abercrombie, jack wills etc hoodie wearing.
I have to admit though i am a sucker for buying my 12 yr old what he wants to wear and would much rather he was wearing jack wills than nike, adidas etc.

wolfnipplechips · 08/02/2010 21:24

DD is 4 nearly 5 she goes to an independent girls school she came home last week, turned the top of her sheepskin boots down and told me it was cooler to wear them like that. I am destined to be the sucker buying those sort of clothes. But i would rather buy them than horrible nike and adidas crap that IMO is also overpriced.
Teenagers clothes are always expensive and not understood by grown ups its the law.
Having said that i did briefly ogle that Audin and Wills striped henley last week

Quattrocento · 08/02/2010 22:44

I'm glad you all think it is senselessly expensive and not particularly stylish

Good old MN!
