Have been dragged in there by DD. Cards are hurting in consequence.

I have reached my own conclusions on this shop but I want to know what knowledgeable mners think of it.

Teenagers with very rich parents and big hair.

SixtyFootDoll · 07/02/2010 22:33

Sorry get orf but could never buy from a shop that refers to women as 'bettys'!

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/02/2010 22:35

No it is nonsense Quattro - a complete waste of money.

Mind you (and I hate to defend the place) the stuff does last a long time and washes well.

But it is overpriced nonsense.

I think that about Abercrombie as well but I am lucky to have a brother in California who sends across parcels of Abercrombie stuff he has picked up for dd in the sales.

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/02/2010 22:37

Sixtyfoot - to be honest I had no idea that they did refer to gilrs as bettys until I linked to that website.

But, for reasonably priced stuff for teens it is hard to beat imo.

Yes I used to get most my clothes from Sue Ryder - velvet blazer, pinstripe flared suits (worn with plimsolls ) and ancient jeans to be ripped up.

Bloody kids today.

Mind you, we are the ones paying for this aren't we

MarionCole · 07/02/2010 22:40

I used to buy 50s dresses from the Oxfam shop and wear them with DMs and a grandad cardigan.

Mind you, my dad thought I looked bloody awful!

Quattrocento · 07/02/2010 22:41

My eyes are still hurting from this visit, I'll have you know.

D'you remember Reggie Perrin starting a shop that sold Grot (or something, memory fails). Is this their guiding principle?

reminds me of the recent harry enfield sketch where he owns the gastrodeli/antique shop in notting hill and sienna miller types wander round cooing and squealing over what he sardonically describes as utter shit as he takes their money.

SueW · 07/02/2010 22:44

It washes well (as does Abercrombie and Hollister stuff tbh).

My mum loves the shop - she went in to buy DD something for Xmas.

There's an older version now isn't there? Aubin and ?? Wills maybe.

TheElephant · 07/02/2010 22:44

oh its very rah

SueW · 07/02/2010 22:45

Aubin and Wills

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/02/2010 22:47

look what those Aubin nobbends think are our 'must haves'

Quattrocento · 07/02/2010 22:47

So now, DD is blissfully happy, because she has a hoodie in an unflattering colour, with the logo "Jack" emblazoned across the front. Dyed on rather than sewn in, something I think is a mistake.

Her GAP hoodie is a colour which suits her perfectly, she looks amazing in it, it is better quality and a third of the price.

But "Jack" means more than "GAP". Approximately £50 more.

She is nuts, the world is nuts and I am nuts for allowing this sort of nonsense to carry on.

That website is beyond poncey.

However, suspect am not target market. Could never be described as "discerning".

Jack Wills scares me. Feel I may be shot if I touch anything.

pointydog · 07/02/2010 22:48

I only heard about jack wills for the first time last month. I compared people who knew about wills with people like myself who have not and came to these conclusions:

  1. wealthy kids are into wills
  2. it is one of these status labels that everyone within that particular wealthy circle will want to have

I haven't looked it up for myself yet but I am guessing very preppy, flicky hair and the odd tunred up collar wouldn't be too out of place

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/02/2010 22:49

God almighty.

You can kind of excuse teens having Jack Wills love, but to actually have a site for grown ups who should know better - jesus.

dexter73 · 07/02/2010 22:49

The Jack Wills outlet is much cheaper - just got dd a hoody for £34 and jeans for £18.

pointydog · 07/02/2010 22:49

Having read the replies, I see my conclusions were correct

brimfull · 07/02/2010 22:50

Jack wills is hooray wannabe

and kids like these aubin and wills fans

read and weep

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/02/2010 22:50

Quattro - I had the same thoughts when DD picked a hoodie which had a logo which was printed as opposed to embroidered. Thought it would look like shite in weeks.

Over a year later and it looks as good as new. So the stuff really does last and washes well (so it should do for £80).

dexter73 · 07/02/2010 22:52

This is the hoody I got her so it is much cheaper!

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/02/2010 22:52

Pmsl gggirl and the rah forum.

Bless em. Especially the one called Fred Gustavus Burnaby.

Heathcliffscathy · 07/02/2010 22:53

dex it's got 'freshers tour' down one arm...they WANT that???

brimfull · 07/02/2010 22:54

GetOrfMoiLand - I know very entertainng read

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/02/2010 22:54

I must confess actually that I have got a pair of jack Wills jeans which DP bought me, and they fit beautfully and are really nice denim.

Would not go out wearing them with a jumper which has Jack Wills emblazoned all over it thouhgh. That is really only one step up from leasurewear with N E X T on imo.

Quattrocento · 07/02/2010 22:55

Oh thanks Getorf. That makes me feel marginally better.

I do wish my DCs hadn't got this horrible urge to conform ...
