Looks v. model on a go see providing you are 5' 10"+ and a size 8....

if you are 5' 3" and a size 14 you will look like a frump who hasn't been shopping in the last ten years.

TheElephant · 06/02/2010 22:20

WHY is a pair of rolled up trews and heels ONLY for tall skinnies?
i wear heels and slim trews all the time

YET a roll means you have to be skeletal?

i think it is a great way to make your legs look shorter, and emphasise the fact that your bum is much wider than your ankle (lumpy carrot look~)

i am not a fan.

to show off slim lower leg - right length skirt, or for person with a decent booty, pedal pushers or tailored shorts ...not rolled up loose trews.

fishie · 06/02/2010 22:24

yes. if it doesn't look good that is bad. but having rules just in case is worse.

fishie · 06/02/2010 22:27

x post edgar allen. god i would look horrific in what you describe and i have lovely legs.

i think the thing with the chinos is not to have them wide.

brimfull · 06/02/2010 22:27

I like the look.
Heels make it much easier to do, would look shite with flats

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/02/2010 22:32

Elephant

lunch in the summer - yes
teaching a bunch of Yr 9 girls - no

Think for work either rolled up chinos and flats or 7/8 trews and heels. Not rolled up chinos and heels.

Unless you work at Summerfields school.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/02/2010 22:33

Just remembering that when 14 had a teacher who was bang on trend (timmy trendy) and we all laughed like drains and called her the Fashion Princess.

TheElephant · 07/02/2010 08:22

oh.

my gaff is uber cas though - is birkinstocks all summer

I like that look and I'm only 5ft although fairly slim at the moment.

Those sandals are gorgeous cyb.

noddyholder · 07/02/2010 11:38

That look has been around for ages very easy to put together.I had to go into next my nightmare for a bracelet pressie and they have some tracky shaped low rise jeans which I tried on and were v flattering would look good with flip flops/plimsolls/wedges.Am going back for them tomorrow.Skinnies and jeggings binned!Bar one lovely Gap pair.Lovely chino type peg shaped trousers in zara really lovely grey colour nice with white asymetric t shirt and heels.I have to keep out of the shops!

Bobbiewickham · 07/02/2010 12:25

Reminds me of Sat Guardian fashion page - all ages, is it?

Don't think I've ever seen a pair of trousers in there that weren't rolled up with heels.

Not a look I've ever seen in real life, though.

Like the gap ones.

EdgarAllenSnow · 07/02/2010 12:34

bobbie
wasn't it summer 2003? 3/4 length cargo pants in cotton or silk paired up with the brightest, shiniest pair of heels possible?( with pockets and ties on the pants mock-combat style?) not quite the same look - not rolled up, but still a loose trouser rather than tight/ slim-fit - and still, i felt for all but the slimmest lady, a tragic, tragic error as the fabric billowed out in the wind....

i see i have my judgy pants on

Cyb · 07/02/2010 12:41

YES SJP wore some in SATC IIRC

Bobbiewickham · 07/02/2010 13:20

Oh yes...post All Saints, let's dress up our combats...bleurgh.

TheElephant · 07/02/2010 17:49

ah thanks noddy.
larks mn is so dismissive of new looks isnt it!

OP posts:
EdgarAllenSnow · 08/02/2010 17:36

it's beause we're all bitter old hags with saggy bottoms.

oh wait...maybe that's just me....

it's not a new look though. more fashion re-cycling.

badgermonkey · 08/02/2010 19:55

DH is out so I just went upstairs and tried this with my too-baggy combats, and it worked. But I wouldn't wear it to school though - kids OK, other teachers merciless. Rural Yorkshire not fashion-forward (same Per Una cardigan worn by THREE different teachers, I rest my case).

RoseWater · 08/02/2010 22:55

Did this in the 80's I think, don't think I should do it again.....then again I remember thinking same about leggings, drainpipe skinny jeans and jumper dresses and I have succumbed
