why do they take your name and address? Do they monitor how many things you take back and when it comes to a certain number they tell you off?!

starlover · 08/07/2005 17:23

we don't tell them!

compo · 08/07/2005 17:24

what? when they ask for your name and address do you refuse then?

OP posts:
starlover · 08/07/2005 17:24

yes. they can't make you tell them

starlover · 08/07/2005 17:24

don't know why they ask though!

compo · 08/07/2005 17:25

ooh you are brave!

OP posts:
starlover · 08/07/2005 17:26

lol you should try it

next time they ask just say "why"

can guarantee they won't have a clue why they need to know!

franch · 08/07/2005 17:26

Interesting! So what do you actually say, starlover?

starlover · 08/07/2005 17:26

i just say "i'd rather not give you that information thank you"

compo · 08/07/2005 17:26

I'd be scared they would think it was odd and not give me my money back

OP posts:
starlover · 08/07/2005 17:28

nah... i don't think they can make you give them the info... at least, no-one has ever really questioned me...

Nightynight · 08/07/2005 18:30

I think its so that they can monitor if people are doing it on an industrial scale. once met someone who worked at Laura Ashley, she used to get discounted clothes and take them to another branch and get a full price refund.

littlerach · 08/07/2005 18:48

It is so that H O can check there aren't any large scale refunds being issued on a regular basis, the idea is they can contact the refundee and see if they did receive a refund, IYSWIM.

babyonboard · 11/07/2005 14:59

they are never going to know your actual address though..just put minnie mouse, at 1 mouse road, mousetown. guaranteed they won't check..he he!

compo · 11/07/2005 15:00

expatinscotland · 11/07/2005 15:01

Just make one up.

expatinscotland · 11/07/2005 15:02

Or steal someone else's

compo · 11/07/2005 15:03

but you have to write your name and if you have paid by switch it's going to be pretty obvious that you're not Mrs Mouse!!!

babyonboard · 11/07/2005 15:05

ach...as if they will even look at it..
did anyone see the news report (before chip n pin) where they had someone undercover signing for things as 'you're not looking'?...only two out of fifteen shops noticed

QueenEagle · 11/07/2005 15:13

Just to try it out, dh and me swap our credit cards in Tesco's and enter each other's pin numbers. No one has ever noticed yet.

fishfinger · 11/07/2005 15:14

we had someone in couirt for returning stolen stuff ot m a dn s

babyonboard · 11/07/2005 15:46

how do they ever know it is stolen?

NomDePlume · 11/07/2005 15:47

QE, I paid for a hired dinner suit with DH's chip and pin credit card last week. The guy on the til said, oh well, I'll just pretend you are your husband

toothyboy · 11/07/2005 17:58

More often than not they take your name and address to check the refunds are genuine and not members of staff finding receipts and helping themselves to the till.

SoupDragon · 11/07/2005 18:11

Why would it bother you if you're not doing anything wrong??

lilybird · 12/07/2005 08:22

i recently returned some casual trousers to a high street shop, and was so disgusted by the way the staff treated me, (generally no manners) that i complained to their head office, they replied and said how sorry they were and sent me £15 gift vouchers!! i've never complained about anything before!
but don't know how i'm going to spend the vouchers cos i daren't go back into the shop!!
