so I've found the perfect wedding dress - but it's not white!

OK, the wedding is small and pretty low key and in Australia in April. I went dress shopping in central london today because I want a dress that is less than £500. I found this this dressit is fab - just what I wanted, very flattering (i am size 12 but with small norks)- the back is lovely too - but it is grey and doesn't come in any other colour. I don't have to get married in white or ivory but I think it would be nice!

Can anyone find me a nice one but in ivory?

I am thinking about buying the dress and getting it made in ivory. I'm in south london and work in central london. Is this feasible in the timescales? Who do I call?

I am beginning to panic..

white flowers in hair, white coat/shrug/fur wrap thing. silver bang bang shoes.

kerching!

it is a sensational dress, esp if you don't have massive norkage.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/01/2010 22:03

i don't want to panic you...but if you know what size works, then buy it now, because it's up here now, and it is stunning and i'm sure there will be other people who will be buying it! get it now!

spikemomma · 30/01/2010 22:09

Raffi - i agree with sophable; buy it now. You'll have a few weeks to take it back if necessary.

That means the pressure is off a bit, you can tinker about with accessories, if it doesn't work, take it back, if it does, you'll be so pleased. If you forget, then woo hoo, win win! I just think it's very lovely. I love that neck line, very flattering.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/01/2010 22:13

jesus i'm tempted to buy it for her! you must wear that dress. it is just stupendous and i HATE monsoon!

raffiiscool · 30/01/2010 22:19

Wow thanks for all the replies. I am going to buy the dress tomorrow. Lots of the dresses you all linked were gorgeous I particularly like the Aria wedding dress but, yes, I do LOVE the dress and I think anything else will fall short of it now. So, I am going to buy the dress, keep the tags on and investigate local dress makers too to give me another option. I like the idea of the shrug (there were nice ones in Monsoon too). Thanks for giving me the confidence to go with something a bit different- I am seriously now thinking about going with the grey dress as it stands and jazzing it up.

oh hang on, it's in australia in april, so it'll be hot. fine, no worries (as they say), the belted bit is silver and is it silvery glass beads as well? so it will be beeeyootiful with silvery hair accessories (i'm seeing modern sixties hair, slight back-combing with a light silver band or headpiece, smoked eyes, pale lippie, silver shoes... ooooh, it's lush.) you do NOT have to be married in white, it's ridiculous. that grey is hugely elegant and flattering.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 30/01/2010 22:22

good decision.
now tell us what you look like. i want you to be a brunette with long hair so that i can do your beehive.

zanz1bar · 30/01/2010 22:22

Fantastic, I can promise you will not regret your choice for one single second.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/01/2010 22:23

i'd go with it. grey works beautifully with ivory or white. and silver. and everything really.

you'll be the most gorgeous sophisticated bride on the block!

zanz1bar · 30/01/2010 22:24

No back combing.

natural waves pinned up, or super sleek shiny bob.

Heathcliffscathy · 30/01/2010 22:27

a louise brooks bob would look amazing.

raffiiscool · 30/01/2010 22:30

I have very long hair - half way down my back and I am dark blonde brunettish!!

The place I am getting married is a 1960 modernist listed house so that theme would work well.

Now I can stop stressing so much - thanks you have sorted me out in one evening. Hope it is in stock tomorrow!

raffiscool Have you got room in your suitcase for a crack team of MN stylist?
Keep us posted on shoes...Please.

CarGirl · 30/01/2010 22:30

a silvery mesh voile wrap with some sparkle at the edges to match the band would be stunning along with sparkly heals, and something in your hair with a bit of sparkle too.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 30/01/2010 22:31

just a leetle back comb.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 30/01/2010 22:33

sleeker than this but it looks cool imo

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 30/01/2010 22:35

or rough like this, nice...
but you'd want the back up too in that dress i think, to make your neck look all lush and willowy.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 30/01/2010 22:36

this is nice, i do like the ribbony look

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 30/01/2010 22:37

are you sallow of skin? will you be tanned?

spikemomma · 30/01/2010 22:54

Ah that's great Raffi - i feel like i've bought it by proxi!!

It's so lovely and detailed anyway, i don't think you need anything else with it to be honest, it may destract from the detail of the front and the back.

Defo wear your hair up, as it will emphasise the neck line really well.

Not that i've got carried away, but here's an option to a bridesmaid/matron of honour dress
