so I've found the perfect wedding dress - but it's not white!

OK, the wedding is small and pretty low key and in Australia in April. I went dress shopping in central london today because I want a dress that is less than £500. I found this this dressit is fab - just what I wanted, very flattering (i am size 12 but with small norks)- the back is lovely too - but it is grey and doesn't come in any other colour. I don't have to get married in white or ivory but I think it would be nice!

Can anyone find me a nice one but in ivory?

I am thinking about buying the dress and getting it made in ivory. I'm in south london and work in central london. Is this feasible in the timescales? Who do I call?

I am beginning to panic..

The tippi maxi dress in the bridal section of monsoon has got a similar vibe. The one you like is very very pretty .

thanks I liked it too and I tried it on today too but decided that strapless is not for me - I really like the high neck line of the grey one as I think it suits my figure best

This could be lovely and I know Pronovias can have quite reasonable prices

cookielove · 30/01/2010 21:27

you could have straps added

Fantastic dress!

And why not get married in it if you like it.

I searched high and low for an equivalent white/ivory dress to the one perfect dress I had found that was in a deep rich mahogony brown.

I loved that dress, so what the hell it was my wedding I was 35 with a 4 month old baby, I wore it and looked elegant sophisticated and dam good.

My mother got married in the sixties, hippy dress lots of big yellow flowers.
My grandmother married in WW11 in a very stylish little suit and great hat.
My great grandmother married in 1919 in Lilac lace.
And before that no bride would be seen dead in white it just wasn't fashionable.

Why look like every other bride?

orienteerer · 30/01/2010 21:32

Go for it, I got married in a nehru style coat from here. Go for whatever you like.

DrivenToDistraction · 30/01/2010 21:33

Love the dress! Why not go with it? It's stunning and would be so much more sophisticated than the obvious choices.

If you must have white then do get it copied, you've got plenty of time! If this is exactly what you want you'll never really be satisfied with something similar(ish)...

Katz · 30/01/2010 21:35

couple of similar styles in debenhams

ivory

has detachable straps if wanted

cookielove · 30/01/2010 21:35

here

halter

Heathcliffscathy · 30/01/2010 21:38

love that dress.

if you're getting married and the weather is likely to be cold, you could add an over dress/coat thing, chiffony in white/ivory.

it is by far the nicest dress linked to on here imo.

Katz · 30/01/2010 21:38

plain and simple version

orangehead · 30/01/2010 21:40

The dress is lovely, I say go for it.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 30/01/2010 21:41

you should get the dress in grey, it's beautiful. you can have your hair done with paler bits and bobs, a fur shrug type thing in cream etc etc (if wedding soon). i think it's lovely.

cookielove · 30/01/2010 21:41

maybe here

DrivenToDistraction · 30/01/2010 21:41

yy by far the nicest on the thread

Heathcliffscathy · 30/01/2010 21:45

do any of you know what i mean...like a sort of floor length coat in chiffon or silk, which she can wear over the dress giving full wedding vibe. i can't find anything online which means i'm googling wrong thing.

i've seen this irl and the bride looked fab, she wore a raw silk over dress/coat thing and had a dark plum dress underneath. looked so great.

zanz1bar · 30/01/2010 21:49

The back view is wonderful.

Add lots of silver, and white flowers.

You will look stunning and sooooo much more sophisticated.

cookielove · 30/01/2010 21:52

the coat not the dress

some here

Heathcliffscathy · 30/01/2010 21:52

don't like this actual one, but this is the kind of thing

Ingles2 · 30/01/2010 21:53

That dress is lovely raffii... go for it, be different...

Heathcliffscathy · 30/01/2010 21:53

thats the kind of think cookie

Heathcliffscathy · 30/01/2010 21:54

thing not think.

i reckon you could get a good dressmaker to knock you one out for not too much...

CarGirl · 30/01/2010 21:55

it's stunning as long as you look good in the colour as well as the dress then wear it. I had a church wedding (because I go to church!) and wore a green evening/bridemaid dress with matching gold veil it looked very bridal and stunnning - I suit green far more than ivory!

spikemomma · 30/01/2010 21:58

It's lovely, elegant and sophisticated. You could dress it with white accessories? May be white flowers in your hair and a white flower wrist corsage thing. You'd look a million dollars.(not that i know what you look like, you could be rough as a dog, but in my minds eye i'm already sighing and wiping a tear from my eye!).

That dress is gorgeous.
