eyebrows

What's best? I pluck but it seems to grow back so fast I can't keep on top of it, I am also not happy with the shape, my eyebrows don't seem to 'match' whatever I do. I've never had them done professionally but wonder if anyone would recommend it.
Also, do you pluck the ones above? I remember reading in some mag not to, but mine are so...messy. They seem to hurt more though.
What's your eyebrow routine?

LTEC, where do you live that you pay £14 for threading?! Come and see my lady for £4.75!

(and Riven, I just close my eyes... have to anyway to avoid lots of little hairs going in them / potential (although imaginary) risk of her threading my eyelashes right off)

FnD · 31/01/2010 18:56

LOVE threading - and agree it is the cheapest face lift ever!

HelloThisIsJoanie · 31/01/2010 20:00

£10 here

LetThemEatCake · 31/01/2010 20:11

went to Glow at Debenhams, Clapham Junction this morning. Where is it £4.75????

LetThemEatCake · 31/01/2010 20:13

Riven I prefer the embarrassment of someone looking at me close up to someone looking at me from a distance and saying "oh excuse me but you seem to have a caterpillar crawling across your face..."

I know what you mean though, I can't have massages because of similarly squeamish issues ... being touched .. by a virtual stranger ...

southeastastra · 31/01/2010 20:17

you only need to pluck the hairs that really are really near your eyelids.

natural eyebrows are in this season too

misshardbroom · 31/01/2010 23:02

well you'd have to come to Swindon LTEC, and the £42 return on the train might negate the benefits of getting threading for £4.75...

orangehead · 31/01/2010 23:08

I normally have mine waxed. I once had them threaded, it had a nicer finish but really hurt I didnt like it. So back to waxing for me

LetThemEatCake · 31/01/2010 23:08

oooh. i used to hang out in swindon every weekend. At McKenzies, to be exact!

GothDetective · 01/02/2010 10:58

I just had my eyebrows threaded yesterday for first time. God it hurt. The woman says it gets less painful the more you have it done. She said I did well though as a lot of people cry/squeal when they have it done the first time. I nearly passed out as I kept forgetting to breath. Think I'll go back to waxing.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/02/2010 11:03

Used to have them waxed but have sensitive skin (high maintenence) so used to have red caterpillar shape below eyebrows for hours - unattractive.

Plucking is OK but always end up with one more plucked than t'other so pluck the other one like mad to (over) compensate, end up looking like Greta Garbo.

Threading a lot better - you get a lot better shape as it is not all whooshed off in one go by waxer, plus the training for threading is a lot longer so you get a more considered shape.

Hurts like hell, though, far more painful that waxing or plucking. Hey ho.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/02/2010 11:04

Have them threaded in Debenahms or by an Indian lady in the middle of a Gloucester shopping centre. You do feel a twat having it done in public with all the gawpers going 'ooh' as you wince.

misshardbroom · 01/02/2010 14:16

did you really, LTEC?

I used to be a McKenzie's girl, pre-DCs - what sort of era are you, then? 1997-2003 or so for me!

madhairday · 01/02/2010 14:28

Think I will try out the threading though it does sound a bit ouch. I do tend to over pluck I think and end up looking slightly unbalanced. will wait couple of weeks to be straggly before I give it a go.

I bravely picked up a leaflet from a shopping centre threading stand today (£8 BTW) and the girl was trying to persuade me to have it done there and then ..."it only takes a couple of minutes" -I lied made my excuses and ran!

I think I will have it done but as I've only just plucked them I figured that now wasn't the time.

AuroraB · 01/02/2010 16:09

misshardbroom please where do you get threaded in swindon? i was planning to go to newbury to get mine done but swindon closer but i couldn't find anywhere

AuroraB · 01/02/2010 16:11

excuse poor diction grizzly wriggly tired ds rudely interfereing with mn-ing

misshardbroom · 01/02/2010 17:43

AuroraB, I go to a place called The Salon on Cricklade Road in Gorse Hill (don't know if you know Swindon, but pretty central). It's an Indian lady called Jacinta.

cc41girl · 01/02/2010 19:35

While I was in Debenhams having my brows threaded there was also a lady having her 'moustache' threaded!

micku5 · 01/02/2010 19:52

Another vote for threading. I get them done when I visit my sisters. £6.00 for eyebrow and upper lip!!

electra · 01/02/2010 19:54

Love, love, love threading - my eyebrows never looked better!

LetThemEatCake · 01/02/2010 23:42

misshardbroom we may have had some crossover ... I was a regular in 2003/ 2004....
