it can do as some ewallpaper can bubble and become yacky (i have such technical terms).

Brother best mate is a decorator and he says best not to!!

starlover · 04/07/2005 21:43

yes. definitely. looks like you're too cheap to take the wallpaper down and do it properly

plus, where it gets damp from the paint the edges of the paper will start to lift.

crap!

and you know what's even worse? on DIY shows where they paint over a border as well... and you can see it all underneath!

Agree with rickman, it depends on the wallpaper. And even bumpy stuff is OK if you have crap plaster and the bumps are in a nice design (sorry, essbee!)

Janh · 04/07/2005 21:45

I mean Anaglypta was designed to disguise rotten plaster.

Depends on wallpapar. We did it and it looks absoultely fine - our paper was patterned but not textured. We were afraid to lift it in case the plaster came off too and we couldn't afford to have a professional do it. Don't think that makes us too cheap though! [slight frown emoticon]

starlover · 04/07/2005 21:48

when we pulled the wallpaper down in our hall all the plaster fell off!

if you have shit plaster then get it re-done!

MUCH, MUCH, MUCH nicer than painting over wallpaper! you can see the seams more when it's painted, especially if they lift... then it just looks like you're too cheap/lazy/watch too much diy sos to do a proper job!!!

expatinscotland · 04/07/2005 21:50

Aw, man, I HATE that! That's right up there with woodchip and artex for naff.

Aero · 04/07/2005 21:50

Neither does it make us lazy . Not everyone can afford to have the huse re-plastered SL.

Aero · 04/07/2005 21:51

Oops - typo - that's 'house'.
That said, I'd love to have it all done properly, but there are more pressing needs!

starlover · 04/07/2005 21:53

just my opinion aero! yours may look ok... ones i've seen have all been awful.

peckarollover · 04/07/2005 21:55

I want to paint the living room.

There is wallpaper up at the moment and cant bear the whole skimming process again after doing megans room 2 weeks ago.

The wall paper is plain but has a random self pattern of a square spiral every now and then. It is plain cream. I would just want to paint it a fresher brighter creamy colour.

I know that freshly plastered walls would look infinitely better was just wondering if it was acceptably naff or no no not ever naff

peckarollover · 04/07/2005 21:58

Aero · 04/07/2005 21:59

Acceptably naff in that case - IMO! Starlover, I like you and agree with you mostly, but I hope you never have to visit me - I'd dread what you might be thinking - lol.

starlover · 04/07/2005 21:59

i would just wowrry about the edges peeling up..

my mum painted over her wallpaper and on some of the seams it's beginning to lift up where the paint made it damp.

so you may well do it, only to find you then have to take it all downa nyway!

peckarollover · 04/07/2005 22:00

popsy, you have been in my living room - can you picture it? what do you think?
