cornsilkscatholichamster · 14/01/2010 19:13

What's it for?

ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:14

It's an awards ceremony

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:15

But what am I going to wear?

What is formal wear?

OP posts:
diedandgonetodevon · 14/01/2010 19:15

what time of day? Daytime or evening?

ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:16

Can I confound everyone and wear cruise wear?

(I won't, I just wanted to type cruise wear. I get the urge sometimes)

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:16

Evening

OP posts:
diedandgonetodevon · 14/01/2010 19:16

what on earth is cruise wear?

ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:17

I think it's what you wear on cruises. I imagine it to be white slacks with jaunty sports jackets and peach coloured shoes. I don't know, I've never been on a cruise, but this is what I like to think it is.

Then I would assume formal means black tie. So you'll need an evening dress and definitely no hat

ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:18

Anyway

formal evening wear

OP posts:
diedandgonetodevon · 14/01/2010 19:18

ahh, that makes sense then.

ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:19

An evening dress? Hmmm.

So what, officially, makes an evening dress an evening dress? Am not being funny, I don't know.

I don't want to wear taffeta. Not for anything.

OP posts:
diedandgonetodevon · 14/01/2010 19:20

No, no taffeta! Give me a sec and I'll see what I can find as an example...

ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:20

Thank you, oh yes please.

ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:21

I do have a LBD, but it is now about 12 years old.

Guad · 14/01/2010 19:21

Hello!

A black tie type dress I would imagine, dunno really. Last time I went to an awards ceremony it was a phoney one at the art school. Fun, but not formal.

Do you lke wearing dresses?

ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:24

Hello! How nice you are here, come help me.

I'm not great on dresses, I will if I have to. It's all rather intimidating. I have googled images of other people attending this event - and got even more worried. Am tempted to wear double breasted suit tbh

OP posts:
diedandgonetodevon · 14/01/2010 19:24

Something along these lines perhaps? Not full on ball dress-type but still formal.

Guad · 14/01/2010 19:26

Well, you could, but I bet you could find a lovely dress.

What labels do you usually like? I had you down as a dress person when I pictured you having a fag behind the bush after insulting the host. Snigger.

ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:26

OMG. Look at that! I'd feel like Jessica Rabbit

It is a good thought - and black definitely the way to go - but am worried about its dressyness.

I want to find something which is formal, but not dressy. I am going to be impossible at this. Thank you though

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 14/01/2010 19:30

Well I have worn dresses, I mean I do wear them sometimes, but they aren't the evening, formal variety.

I bought a nice one from Orla Kiely

HOWEVER I feel foolish just thinking about wearing something evening and formal.

Perhaps I need a personal shopper? I could torture her and bore her with my self deprecating / neurotic desperation?

OP posts:
Guad · 14/01/2010 19:30

This is nice..

diedandgonetodevon · 14/01/2010 19:31

Everything JL has in black: here

Guad · 14/01/2010 19:32

Oops you only have three mins to buy it

only joking, will be serious

Guad · 14/01/2010 19:34

Why are you intimidated by the pictures, is it floor length satin? Red carpet style?
